Another oft overlooked movie. While not scary per se, it is very atmospheric and creepy. Great jump points. Bacon does a very good job of going from skeptic to believer to obsessed seer. It'll take a while to listen to Paint it Black by the Stones without a shiver.
Horror and humour balanced almost perfectly. Stops just short of being camp while still lampooniing the basics of zombie cinema. Hey, if Romero likes it, who am I to argue?
Another movie based on a stage play. Cary Grant gives a brilliant comic performance that should be atextbook for most modern day comedic actors. This a film that makes the most of its nuances and wit. Some of the references may be dulled by time, but the circumstances still bring out laughs.
This is the male tearjerker movie. This account of real life teammates Gale Sayers and Brian Piccolo is touching and tough at the same time. Very strong movie that has stood the test of time and an anemic remake.
Kevin Kline meets Monty Python for the humour. Jamie Lee Curtis for the sexiness. Funny and well paced. Worth seeing just for the Cleese-Curtis seduction-by-language scene.
One of Jimmy Stewart's best performance. This is the type of movie that either doesn't get made or doesn't get the proper treatment anymore (even though the tv remake tried very hard to).
Anoth classic. Adapted from a very good play, this film stars Henry Fonda and Jack Lemmon. A very sweet war movie that doesn't deal directly with a war.
The start of a legacy that gave Christopher Lambert enough clout to parlay questionable acting ability into a nice career. A beautifully shot film. Sean Connery is a standout as is Clancy Brown. The soundtrack is incredible.
One of the best movies ever made. It is exciting, gripping, scary, funny and touching in turns. The cast is top notch and the wraparound with Fred Savage and Peter Falk gives it an emotional resonance that is amazing.
An action film that holds up well over time. It is fun to watch a younger Harrison Ford doing the hero thing. The script is well paced and covers tension and comedy equally well.
A classic comedy. One of the best comedic casts in recent memory. This is Ivan Reitman at the top of his game. A must see for Bill Murrayand Dan Aykroyd fans. Rick Moranis is a scene stealer.
Even with some flaws, this movie is one of the rare sequels that at least matches the original. Parker's humanity is still the focu and Maguire is again up to the challenge of showing both sides of Parker.
My first taste of horror and it still holds up all these years since. It seems a bit dated in places, but I still get goosebumps when I hear the familiar music start...
Another movie that I think is underappreciated. Hanks is believeable in both aspects of his character (killer/father). Very beautifully filmed. Very poignant story that holds up to the source material very well.
Another popcorn movie, with a overused premise, but the acting, music and techinque brings this out of possible disaster. Pesci and Tomei ae incredible and the supporting cast hit most of the right notes. A flawed movie but a great one to watch.
Bad: Pacing is inconsistent; wild camera movements and cuts can be distracting. The good: Denzel Washington. This is a very dirty, grimy, intense movie. Washington's performance and the script more than overcome the shortfalls of this movie.
An under-rated film. A great cast gives some very good performances (Virginia Madsen, Elias Koteas, Viggo Mortenson and Christopher Walken all do wonderful jobs). It is a well paced, nicely atmospheric movie. A must see for Walken fans.
The first really unsettling movie that I can remember seeing. C.Thomas Howell does a good job, but Rutger Hauer sets a standard for the psychotic stranger (see also Blade Runner). Very disturbing, unsettling atmosphere throughout, but the ending still makes me feel a bit... queasy.
A silly premise made uber-creepy by the master. Anoth Hitchcock success. It has lost some of its edge in the years since its release, but the creepiness holds up well. Can still draw you in.
A guilty plasure movie for me. John Candy was a favorite from SCTV, but this one cemented him as an all-time favorite comedy actor. Very lightweight film with enough subversive humour (Candy can make an innocent scene a bit screwy just with a certain smile or look in his eyes).
A great movie for kids of all ages. David Bowie does a great job with acting and in the music he provides for the soundtrack. Also, some nice muppets that add as much, if not more, to the film as the flesh-and-blood actors.
A really good movie if you like in-jokes... nice dark humour almost always hits the right level. Not the best movie ever made, but a nice antidote to the usual 'light' Christmas season fare... but you can watch this any time...
Great music; effective mix of humour styles (from low brow to physical, etc) and proof that an SNL skit can be sustained to movie length with a good script and good acting. Not earthshaking, but it is easy to get pulled in for the ride. A movie that lives up to its billing.
A great premise; a stellar cast; a great script; and a killer song to get stuck in your head after watching the movie. This movie just about has it all. The movie also shows an intelligence and humour that is lacking in a lot of mvoies along this line.
Another great comedy by Mel Brooks. The cast is superior, led by the underappreciated Gene Wilder. The humour hits all levels, but most of it is right on target. You'll also carry away abunch of one-liners from this movie.
This is an incredible movie. Russell Crowe and Guy Pearce both shine in this film, which is even more incredible considering they play less than likable (to start) characters. The supporting cast is incredible. The cinematography and script are both well done. This movie is even more incredible in light of how badly The Black Dahlia (based on a book by the same author) ended up.
for those who love animation and music, this is a must. It is alittle bit uneven, but the overall visual and aural effects of this film are incredible.
While not quite having the heart of earlier Pixar films, this is still better than the majority of what Disney has come up with in the last decade or so.. very sweet movie with something for kids and adults. Definitely worth seeing
