Probably the most recognized work by Fritz Lang, Metropolis is a well constructed argument against social industrialization. Gender issues are also addressed in the film. With a new remastered and digitalized DVD, pay attention to the insertion of "Queen" as a soundtrack. Well done!

Hollywood went in to do a remake: "K-pax" but it did not work out! Subiela is a rare cinama genius with such titles as "The dark side of the heart". Eliseo Subiela indulges in a neo-materialistic discourse witha new dialectic approach that would leave even Hegel flabbergasted. Highly political, it's a very elegant critic to the post-industrialization, consumer society. Set in Argentina, the editing and camera work are exquisite. Go ahead and get it, this you will regret not :)

Trainspotting 1996,  R)
Trainspotting
Perhaps one could say this fim started the new british cinema invasion. Very good cinematography and a well developed script. This movie takes you deep into the issue of addiction. Perhaps one of Ewan McGregor best performance yet. The director sets a brilliant soundtrack including "lust for life" (Iggy Pop) which makes the film not only a visual phenomenom but also a musical treat. The action is kept going non-stop mantaining the observer well inside the plot. Not for asingle moment does the film slows down or becomes uninteresting. I recomend this film whithout any reservation! Go see it...Now.
249
Requiem for a Dream 2000,  R)
Requiem for a Dream
A dark and hick drama taking us into the american version of drug addiction. The film deals into the sociology of addiction and its impact in human relatins. Well acted and better directed, "Requiem..." is a journey into despair and tragedy. An emotionally charged script, is not a movie for all audience. After you finish watching this film, you are left with a deep sense of urgency: something is very wrong with our society....However it also invites us to reflect on understanding the depth of the issue at hand, addiction is no joke and the movie , clearly makes an excellent point in defining that problem. Far from promoting the idea that drugs are a recreational alternative, it focuses on the dark side of the psychodelic mind paradigm. If you are ready for a journey into darkness, this is your ticket. Don't miss it!
250
Spun 2002,  R)
Spun
Very much into the "Requiem for a Dream" attitude, this film goes into the business of drugs and how it collapses in itself. Addiction, prostitution, money and a promise of a solid economical status take the characters into an out of control "spin-down" until each one hits rock-bottom. Another tragical ending allowing us to experience the paradox of youth. The movie is very well cut, the use of fast forwarding and specific close-ups makes the visual experience a masterpiece of good cinematography. This is not a beautiful movie, this is a homage to the dark side of human nature.

Looking for Richard
Excellent docu-drama from Mr. Pacino. A good way of learning how a play is developed from the mere idea of putting it on stage, to the actual performance of it. A lot of cameos. It's a fun movie to watch. Don't know if its already on DVD but check it out. It's worth every minute of it!

256
Little Children 2006,  R)
Little Children
An X-Ray into America's suburbia. Little Children takes a look at the suburbs sub-culture. Very deep and accurate. Not a "feel good" movie. To enjoy this film you have to be in a certain mood, careful with what you wish for...Good cinema!
257
The Painted Veil 2006,  PG-13)
The Painted Veil
The first thing that calls attention is the beautiful cinematography and camera work on this film....It's breathtaking! I haven't seen such a keen sense of scene composition since Terrence Malik. It is obvious John Curran combination with Stuart Dryburgh (director of photography) is an explosive one. The pace of the movie is somehow slow and the complexity of the screenplay gives this film a subtle epic feeling. It's a romance set on a historical, post colonial period during the 20's in China. It does have the classical British epic structure, so familiar in David Lean. A bit long but close enough for cigars! Enjoy it!
258
The Fountain 2006,  PG-13)
The Fountain
The classical human debate...Inmortality vs. mortality, do we understand it? The movie dives into the essence of the issue. A wild mix between occdental religion and trascendental spirituality. Although the film could be percieved as "slow", the camera work is exquisite. The screenplay was very well managed and the production design is almost flawlwess. Great performance by Hugh Jackman. This is not a film for everybody; it does requiere certain interest in "spirituality" as an evolving concept. If you are interested in re-encarnation and issues in that direction, this is a movie for you...otherwise, I don't know if it will be your cup of tea. Pay attention!
259
The Age of Innocence 1993,  PG)
The Age of Innocence
A beautiful film! Martin Scorsese's journey into social construction. Set in the late 19th century, the films evolves through layers of reality, colored by "tradition" confronting the coming of age to an entiire new paradigm. Gender construction and rol assigments are disected to deliver a powerful argument favoring change. Extremely elocuent performances by Daniel Day Lewis and Michelle Pfeiffer. Wynona's character couldn't be better! The cinematography for this film is outsatnding and the camera works could only be described as "superb". The editing gives the movie an excellent pace, allowing the observer to be taken away into an aristocratic, 19th century New York. Indulge yourself into visual pleasure as you have rarely experienced cinematic aesthetics, like this one, before. Kudos! to The Age of Innicence...A film for posteriry!
