Kill Bill: Volume 1 2003, R)
I saw this movie with the intention that I would probably end up hating it. It turns out that this turned out to be my favorite movie and made me a huge Quentin Tarantino fan ever since. KB Volume 1 is action packed and has some great dialog. If you are easily offended by violence then this movie isn't for you but otherwise I would recommend Kill Bill Volume 1 to anyone. |

The Matrix 1999, R)
The Matrix is one of the greatest science fiction movies of all time. The storyline is unique and there have even been books published about the philosophy behind The Matrix. The action scenes are amazing and The Matrix was able to reinvent action scenes with bullet time. This is a must see if you haven't seen it already. |

Pulp Fiction 1994, R)
There are very few movies that I would consider perfect and Pulp Fiction would be one of those. Pulp Fiction is unique in every way. The non-linear story line makes this film much more interesting and it makes repeated viewing more enjoyable. The acting was excellent and the cast was absolutely perfect. Pulp Fiction has a great screenplay and probably the best dialog of any film ever made. The soundtrack is great and the music fits the movie perfectly. This made Tarantino a huge success and prompted directors to try to copy Tarantino's style but I have not seen any that have succeeded on this level. |

WALL-E 2008, G)
This was a really cool movie. Wall-e met my expectations and the people at Pixar have really raised the bar with this movie. Wall-e is very innovative in the way it has virtually no dialog, but you can understand everything perfectly. Wall-e has gotten better every time I see it and I might shell out the money for a blu-ray player specifically for this movie. Wall-e has easily become one of my favorite movies. |

Primer 2003, PG-13)
Primer is not one of those movies you can just sit back and observe. If you are looking for something different that will make you think then give Primer a try. Primer was made on a really small budget but its great storytelling is what makes the movie. Primer is like a puzzle and re-watching it to try to solve it is what makes it interesting. I can't say I know of another movie quite like this one. |

Man on Fire 2004, R)
I love everything about this film. From the soundtrack to the camera shots everything is top notch. Denzel Washington delivers an amazing performance as Creasy the bodyguard out to seek revenge on the killers of his guardian Peta played by Dakota Fanning. Creasy is an unconventional protagonist and he will go to any length to get the information he needs out of the kidnappers responsible fer Peta's death. If you are a fan of revenge movies than you will not want to miss this one. |

Cloverfield 2008, PG-13)
It is hard to make a monster movie that doesn't look like a stupid B-movie but these guys pulled it off. Cloverfield took the first person point of view with the camera which is rarely seen and managed to really work with it to use that video to its fullest. I was entertained literally the entire time through which rarely happens. I went into Cloverfield not knowing much about it thinking it was just some independent film with good CGI during the initial attack on New York. I was very wrong and there are tons of very well done special effects. The monsters in this look good for CGI. I thought this would be something where the monster isn't seen until the end this wasn't the case. This is my favorite movie this year. |

Planet Terror (Grindhouse Presents: Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror) 2007, R)
If you like zombie movies than you will not want to miss this one. Planet Terror is just one of those movies that is entertaining and nothing more. The plot doesn't really matter at all and it clearly is not the point of the movie. From start to finish Planet Terror will keep you on the edge of your seat. |

The Godfather 1972, R)
A lot of people call this the greatest movie of all time and for good reason. The directing is perfect, the acting is perfect, the dialog is perfect, the screenplay is perfect, even the soundtrack is perfect. Everything about this movie just screams perfection. I can see no flaws in this movie and therefore I must give it a perfect rating. |
