Inception 2010, PG-13)
A brilliant film, the type the cinema was made for! It has the same kind of wow factor the Matrix had when that first came out. In many ways it has some similarities to that, great visual effects, awesome action scenes and entering a universe via your mind. It sounds more complicated in theory than it is in practice. A team of people can join a persons dream in order to try and find out secret information. In a dreamworld though nearly anything can be possible, and trying to convince the dreamer it is in fact reality can prove difficult. It has a great cast, but most of all it is an engrossing story and idea that will keep you entertained for the full 148 mins, It really doesn't feel that long though. Maybe it is a tad long, and you might question some of the theories, or parts of the plot. However these are very minor details to what is one of the best films to have been released in years!! |

Cloverfield 2008, PG-13)
WOW! This film is brilliant! What can I say believe the hype. This is such an engaging film you won't be able to take your eyes off the screen for a second. This is a mix of action, drama, disaster, and sci-fi all rolled into one and even with a touch of romance to. It was much better than I expected it to be given all the hype around it. The film is viewed through the playback of a camcorder after an event in New York, Kinda Blair Witch like but better. The first person feel of it really brings you into the action, panic and confusion as the events unfold. This is set to be a cult classic! If you haven't seen it yet put it to the top of your to watch/rental list! It feels like a roller-coaster ride you don't want to end! |

A very cool, unique and classy vampire film. It's 9 years from now and nearly everyone is a vampire. However with not so many humans around producing blood the vampires are starving and becoming more like mindless bat-like creatures. Is there a way to save both vampires and humans? |

Young Sherlock Holmes 1985, PG-13)
A great all too little known film from '86. Set in Sherlock Holmes school days setting the story background as he becomes the worlds most famous detective. I remember seeing this at the cinema and is just the sort of film full of action and adventure everyone should love. Steven Spielberg was involved in the production and it shows. This film has a feel to it like the Mummy and Indiana Jones films. It also has some very good SFX for the time. If you have missed this film then you are missing out, track it down! |

The Bank Job 2008, R)
A very good English heist/crime thriller with a very good cast of mainly British actors on show. A role that seems to fit Jason Statham like a glove, playing a cockney East London gangster. He has the chance to pull one last big Bank Job but that is where all his troubles begin. This is a very good entertaining film, that is slick, stylish and a tad raunchy to. It stays very truthful to the 70's period in all manner of ways, which is good to see. This isn't just a good heist film though as the story involves all sorts of double crosses, making it a very good crime thriller to. Make sure you see it. |

The Forbidden Kingdom 2008, PG-13)
Jet Li v Jackie Chan ...well for one scene at least. This is a great martial arts, fantasy film that seemed to not get a cinema release?! I find that very strange considering this is the first film to feature Chan and Li together. It has the same fight choreographer from The Matrix, Kill Bill and Crouching Tiger! The fights are truly awesome. Add some humour, a little adventure, good SFX and an all round good cast, makes for a great film. The start reminds me of some of the great fantasy films of my childhood like Never ending story. It's no coincidence that the old martial arts series Monkey is on the TV towards the start as this film has a similar feel to it as that. So if you like the sound of any of that check this out. |

Trick 'r Treat 2006, R)
A great collection of Halloween tales that overlap each other on one Halloween night in a small town. It has some great moments in the 4 main stories, mixing up an urban ghost story, scary creatures, slasher and just the plain weird. It has a good cast including Brian Cox looking a little John Carpenter like and Anna Paquin of True Blood. The film also reminds the viewers of the reasons behind some of the traditions. A bit short at 80mins but very enjoyable, one of the best horror anthologies around! This could become a cult film taking into account it didn't get a cinema release....who knows why!? Plenty of extras on the DVD as well. |

Just what you want from a blockbuster film. Great action all the way, amazing SFX and a fair share of humour to. The effects are just breathtaking, not felt like that since I watched The Matrix! It has a very simple storyline and as a fan of the toys, animated movie it would have been nice to see more of the other Transformers characters. Overall though it's a brill blockbuster that will thoroughly entertain you!! |

Spider-Man 2002, PG-13) |

Disturbia 2007, PG-13)
This is a very cool, very good thriller. It's a bit like a modern day remake of Rear Window but with plenty of comic moments as well that it is also a bit like The 'Burbs, The girl next door. Overall a very enjoyable thriller and the pace really picks up towards the end with a few good "red herrings" along the way! |

Halloween 2007, R)
I thought this was a very good film and a great remake. It's not entirely scene for scene like some and gives a lot more time to Michael as a young boy and reasons for him to turn evil. Rather than just a madman on the run from the asylum. Although some key scenes are kept and a few are changed slightly for the update, why change what worked so well in the original. Some people will just rate down remakes just for the sake of it, but seriously Halloween might have been scary if you saw it in your teens but today? This builds on what was a great horror classic and adds a few touches, more of a back story, a bit more violent and sexed up a little for today's audience. Whether you have seen the original or not you should check this out. |

Ein unbekannter rechnet ab (Ten Little Indians)(And Then There Were None) 1975, PG)
One of the best Agatha Christie films to be made! Featuring an all star cast this is a timeless classic that has inspired many other films, Identity and House on Haunted hill spring to mind. If you like a good murder mystery or are a fan of Agatha Christie check this out, now known in the UK as And then there were none. |

Freddy vs. Jason 2003, R)
A pretty cool hack'n'slash film. Almost tongue in cheek at times, could almost be a spoof of both series of films. The effects are cool and there is plenty blood for gore fans. Nice to see a recent film starring these two cult film characters....and as with most Jason films, there is a nude girl in the lake. |

11:14 2003, R)
A great little film I stumbled upon. I like the way it shows the different stories of the characters and how their actions effect each other over the course of the night. A bit like Crash, Pulp Fiction, 2 days in the valley because of this but also with a strong dark sense of humour. Overall a strange but quality film. |

| 102 |
My Little Eye 2002, R) |
|
| 103 |
Mindhunters 2005, R)
This is a very good little know film. It's a mix of cat and mouse thriller with the FBI trying to track a killer at one of their training facilities. It starts as a thriller and soon becomes a horror as puzzles are put in the teams way similar to the traps in the Saw films. Along with an impressive cast and great setting this is worth hunting out. |

Fast & Furious 2009, PG-13)
At last the majority of the original cast are back for a true sequel. It's great how some of the film relates back to what happened in the first and some of the locations are still the same. I heard mixed reviews of this but I thought it was great and the 2nd best in the series now after the first. Even Han from Tokyo drift makes a brief appearance at the start to tie things in a bit. There is plenty of action and cool cars and a great street race scene thats better than the 1/4 mile race of the first. There are rumours there could be a couple more yet, if they get the cast to stay together and a good story it could make for an even better film. |

District 9 2009, R)
A little slow to start but once the action kicks in this is a great Sci-Fi/Action film! Filmed in a kind of documentary style for the first half, it has some great action scenes and special effects as the story takes a direction you might not have expected. This is a one of a kind film, really different to most films these days. Definitely not one to be missed! |
|
| 109 |
Sorority Row 2009, R)
A very good fun slasher that has a lot of humour in it. One of the best slasher films I have seen in a while, maybe since House of Wax? It seems the guys working on this know all the right ingredients to give the fans what they want. It doesn't take itself seriously and the characters still make jokes even when being chased by the killer....which was maybe going a bit far. Still it has a cool young cast, good effects, some good kills and a wild party theme throughout. Definitely one for slasher fans!! |
|
| 110 |
Zombieland 2009, R)
This is a great comedy horror with plenty of action. Shaun of the dead, meets Dawn of the dead. There are plenty of laughs as a few remaining survivors take a road trip across the states dispatching Zombies along the way in a variety of styles. Very tongue in cheek, quite gory to but very funny as well. Kinda reminded me of the game Dead rising as well. |
|
| 111 |
Thirteen Ghosts (13 Ghosts) 2001, R)
Another cool Dark Castle entertainment horror re-make. Didn't know of the original until I saw some reviews mention it. This reminded me a lot of the House on Haunted Hill remake made 2 years earlier. It's fun, not too serious, has a good mix of humour and gore/kills. The cast is ok and well known with Shannon Elizabeth and Matthew Lillard, but it was a nice surprise to see Tony Shalhoub (Monk) appear in this. What really makes this film enjoyable in my opinion, along with House on Haunted Hill, is the set design, make up and ghoulish characters created. Both films have a great wacky house setting, good SFX and the ghosts in this look awesome. A great way to enjoy 90mins. So if you liked House on Haunted Hill you will like this just as much. |

300 2007, R)
A great entertaining film, with plenty of action and a very impressive visual style similar to Sin City. Although the fights are great, very violent the use of CGI blood effects gave it quite a comic book feel and help tone the gore side down a bit. The story is very simple and to the point, not a deep film it is all about the battles and the visuals. Great if you liked Troy, Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven but some viewers might want a bit more story to break up all the action. However it's definitely worth experiencing! |

| 119 |
Titanic (in 3D) 2012, PG-13)
The sheer scale of this movie is also Titanic! At nearly 3 hours long and a whopping budget this needed to be great.....and it succeeds. The sets, costumes all look amazing and authentic down to the last detail. The effects and stunts as the ship begins to flood and sink are impressive. Told from a retrospective view point of a survivor this is also a story of love as much as a true story of the disaster. Deserves every award it won. |

30 Days of Night 2007, R)
At last a great Vampire horror film!! It's been a long time coming. I love the Blade and Underworld films but they definitely fit more into the action genre. This is bloody and gory in places, has plenty of tension and a good story about a town under siege for 30 days. The photography is great and vampires look original. Overall it has something for everyone especially those who love a good horror, vampire film! |
|
| 125 |
Iron Man 2008, PG-13)
Another comic based superhero action movie, seems to be an awful lot of them lately. This one definitely sits up there with some of the best of them so far! I would have liked a few more action scenes once he has created the suit to really show it off. However the action scenes you do get are great and with very good SFX. This is just a fun, enjoyable, cool action film well worth seeing. |

The Dark Knight 2008, PG-13)
A very good film with an awful lot of hype, and just about lives up to it. This is how we want to see Batman, a much darker version than most of the comical offerings from years ago. This is intense crime/action/drama at it's best with some neat twists, great action scenes and wonderful acting talent on show. It's a little long but you barely notice as it progresses at a great pace with lots of great plot lines. See it as soon as you can! |
|
| 134 |
The Uninvited 2009, PG-13)
At last a very good suspenseful thriller in a similar mould to What lies beneath, The Number 23, Secret window. I wouldn't put this in the horror category although it has a few jumps along the way. A take on of a Korean film called A tale of two sisters. I really enjoyed this and thought it was a well made film with a good cast. It has a nice twist towards the end, although suspicious minds might make it out? Overall a very enjoyable film. If you like this type of thriller go see it soon! |

Kill Bill: Volume 1 2003, R) |

| 136 |
Alien 1979, R) |
|
| 137 |
The Thing 1982, R)
I finally got round to seeing this after hearing it being talked about as one of the best horror films ever made and a timeless classic. It is very good, it has some truly memorable scenes that are still pretty far out 26 years after it was made!!! It has some nice effects to, no CGI here and the creature in its forms looks great. Set in a great location for a horror, a strong cast, good director this can't fail to impress. If you've not seen it yet put it to the top of your want to see list. |
|
| 138 |
The Stepfather 2009, PG-13)
I must be one of the few that liked this. It is a bit tame for a thriller, being a PG-13 after all. However I still found it very enjoyable. It's one of those thrillers you know who the bad guy is right away and just wait to see if and how they get found out. This has good production values and a young recognizable cast including the lovely bikini clad Amber Heard (All the boys love Mandy Lane). Overall it's not too violent or bloody but has a good amount of tension and suspense. I haven't seen the '87 original which had two sequels, but I think I'll check them out. Give it a try if you like the similar thrillers in the More like this section. |

Avatar 2009, PG-13)
A great, stunning audio/visual treat for the senses! The story though has been done quiet a few times already it has to be said. It didn't feel like a 2.5 hour film. The level of detail and creativeness in terms of the alien planet Pandora and creature design was great. I can understand the hype for this, it does take a lot of things to the next level. It has some great action scenes. However on the whole the plot is not ground breaking by any means. Still one that has to be seen and experienced! |
|
| 140 |
The Town 2010, R)
A brilliant cops and robbers film, the best of it's genre since Heat in my eyes. Also quite similar to The Departed so if you like those two, who doesn't? You'll want to see this. Based on an award winning book for crime writing "Prince of Thieves" This has great action, a fine cast, interesting story, the whole thing oozes class. Ben Affleck directs and does a great job. Very enjoyable check it out! |
|
| 141 |
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo 2009, R)
A cracking Swedish whodunit/thriller. I have heard great things about the books so thought I would give this a go. The DVD has the option of subtitles or English Audio, I went for the audio as I was a little tired. Thankfully not one of those films where the dubbing appears totally out of sync and distracts you. It takes a little while to get going but the last hour or more is brilliant. Very brutal and violent at times to, but this is up there with the best thrillers around!! Very surprised an English version is being made just next year? Going to be near impossible to better this in any way?? |
|
| 142 |
Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief 2010, PG)
I was pleasantly surprised by this. I had a feeling it was aimed at a young audience but actually it's pretty good for the whole family. There are great effects scenes with some of the Greek mythology creatures doing battle with the demi gods. It felt like Clash of the Titans but set in modern day american, crossed with National Treasure. It has a great cast, although some have very short screen time. It whizzed by at a good pace, with plenty of action, cheesey humour and some decent action. I wouldn't call it a Potter or Narnia clone but if you like those sort of adventure films you can't go wrong with this! |
|
| 143 |
The Game 1997, R)
I finally got round to seeing this and boy I'm glad I did! It's a brilliant multi layered thriller with twists a plenty that will have you guessing right up until the end. Oh and what an ending! There have been some great thrillers this year and this offering from '97 is up there with the best of the genre. Check this out! |

Kick-Ass 2010, R)
I see what the hype is all about!! When I saw a few trailers this looked liked an odd teen-comedy to me?! After finally watching it, I can say blends elements of Watchmen, Kill Bill, and Superbad. Quite violent and bloody for a film with a strong dose of comedy. It has some great action scenes, a very cool car and a fine soundtrack to! This film does what it says on the cover, it Kicks-Ass!! |
|
| 147 |
Fast Five 2011, PG-13)
Fast Five star! The series has gone full circle and this one breathes new life into the series which got stronger with the 4th installment and is bettered by this one! We have even more of the cast from the earlier films including Ludacris and Tyrese Gibson from the second. Not too mention another surprise cameo after the credits to hint at a 6th film! |
|
| 148 |
X-Men: First Class 2011, PG-13)
It's just as good as I had hoped after all the good reviews. I haven't read the comics, so didn't know any of the back story to the characters before this. I can't say whether it's true to the comics, but it is nice to see the past of Magneto and Charles Xavier and the other characters. There is plenty of action, with some amazing SFX scenes, plenty of humour to. It was a nice touch how they integrated events from history with the X Men story. It felt a lot like the 2nd X men film at times, which is my favourite, this is as equally as good as that if not better! |
|
| 149 |
Drive Angry 2011, R)
This film does exactly as it sets out to do. It's a pure over the top adrenalin rush almost from start to finish. Babes, bullets, blood, bad-ass characters and a Dodge charger. Think Crank meets Shoot 'em up with an almost comic book setting. I really enjoyed and found it an action packed film, that's tongue firmly in cheek. Add a cool car and the sexy Amber Heard and you get good popcorn entertainment, would have like to have seen it it 3D! If you like wild wacky films that are just fun to watch check this out! |

Transformers: Dark of the Moon 2011, PG-13)
Finally got round to seeing it at the cinema in 3D. I really do not understand the criticism of this film. Yes it's long, has a slowish build up and no Megan Fox. The new girl appears out of no where? However once the action does start it, doesn't stop and it doesn't feel as long as it is. The SFX have gone up a notch again and the level of detail in the slo-mo shots mid action are amazing! All this with live performers in the mix to. This film is a pure blast, fun, entertaining and a work of technical excellence. It's better than the 2nd and on par with the first. If you want to be entertained and have your eyes dazzled see this. What the critics thought they were going to see I don't know? |

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 2011, PG-13)
At last back to its best! I have to admit since the Goblet of Fire film the series for me had been on a downward trend, the 1st part of the Deathly Hallows again was long, drawn out and devoid of any real action or stand out scenes. Thankfully the final film does the whole collection justice and is a very impressive ending to on the whole a fine collection of films. It has tons of action, spells, fights, all the main characters and at last the final showdown! Easily one of the best in the series, this along with Prisoner of Azkaban, Goblet of Fire are my faves. |
