Scott Deady (deadyse)

It's hard to believe Chaplin was responsible for this. The humor ranges from stale to non-existant. As a final film it is entirely unsatisfying.

'New York Stories' is a bit of a shit sandwhich. Scorsese's short is the good top piece of bread. It's a nice piece of bread too.

Woody Allen's short is an oddly satisfying piece of bread underneath. The story is goofy and unbelievable but undeniably Allen and quite enjoyable.

But the middle segment. The Francis and Sofia Coppola short is a total piece of shit. Even after "Oedipus Wrecks" when you think you can end up feeling satisfied, if you think back to the middle segment, there's no way around it. You just ate a shit sandwhich.

Though I don't highly recommend 'New York Stories', it is an interesting way to see veteran directors trying their seasoned hands at shorts (usually the form of amateurs). And two out of the three are pretty darn good shorts.
