This is not actually sorted according to my personal favorites, but rather movies that I've given a 10/10 rating. Sorted by latest release first.

El Orfanato (The Orphanage) 2007,  R)
El Orfanato (The Orphanage)
This movie has a lot in common with "Pan's Labyrinth" and "The Sixth Sense". It has the formers unique atmosphere and imagination and the latter's surprising ending. I predicted the shape of many of the pieces, but not the entire puzzle. And what a picture! If you enjoy movies like "House of Wax" and "Hills Have Eyes", then this is perhaps not the movie for you. This is more of a mystery/thriller for those people that require something more than cheap kills & thrills to be entertained. It kept my eyes glued to the screen from beginning to end with little violence to speak of. Movies in this genre, that are this good, are long and far in between. If you liked the first two movies I mentioned, I can (almost) guarantee that you will like this one.

Juno 2007,  PG-13)
Juno
Wow! It actually met my super high expectations and more. I also think that I'm in love with Ellen Page. Not only is she incredible cute, but is also one of the most promising young actresses around (I recommend watching Hard Candy). This movie is a real gem, a must-see, and the second 5 star rating I've given to movies from 2007.

# 2nd Viewing Edit:
Still a five star, and I took a lot more notice of the fantastic soundtrack the second time around. I hope Page get's the oscar!
3
Atonement 2007,  R)
Atonement
This is the first and only new movie I've given five stars this year. Instant classic! I've rarely seen a movie so successful in every aspect, from editing, sound/music, performances and story. It also include one of the finest (unbroken) shots I've seen on film (the beach walk). Stories like these tends to get tedious in parts, but not this one. In fact, I can't come up with a single negative thing about this movie. I would also go so far to say that it is one of the most emotional endings I've ever seen.
4
Pan's Labyrinth 2006,  R)
5
King Kong 2005,  PG-13)
6
Sin City 2005,  R)
7
The Incredibles 2004,  PG)

9
Hotel Rwanda 2004,  PG-13)
10
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl 2003,  PG-13)
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
Usually, my top ratings has been more reserved to the more serious movies. Yet, once in a while, there's a comical action piece, that does everything right. I've always been under the impression that there should be a top and a bottom in each genre. This is the best pirate movie ever, and as such, worthy of five stars. The movie introduces the coolest character ever to grace the screen, Jack Sparrow, played by my favorite actor, Johnny Depp. Good FX, playful story, excellent diolag (for the most parts) and plenty of action. The music is awesome as well. This is an adventure you would want to see again and again.

Spirited Away
This is the best animation feature ever to grace the screen. No words of mine can do this epic journey justice. It's level of imagination, detail and sheer beauty is unparalled. Miyazaki is my favorite director and this is his best piece, and that's saying a lot. It's like watching a bizzarre dream, and I can't help but wonder where Miyazaki get's his inspiration from. The story is so captivating that I never want it to end, and when the credits appear, I'm crying out for more.

Saving Private Ryan
A remarkable cast in an epic war movie by one of the best directors of our time. While one can argue that the back story seems a little unrealistic, it doesn't take away anything. Movies about WW2 are always captivating, when done properly. The opening scene with the invasion of Normandy is perhaps the best and most realistic battle scene of all time. This is my favorite war movie. Period.

I've yet to meet a person in real life that doesn't at least like this movie. In fact, I don't want to meet one who doesn't like it, as they must be really, really weird. This simple, yet funny and warm comedy is truly a modern classic in its genre. Harold Ramis obviously created this movie with Bill Murray in thought for the main lead. I don't think any other actor could have made this movie work any better than him. Andie MacDowell is a cheap, shampoo actress, but even she, with her extremely limited talent, manage to get by in this flick. At least she looks fair. This is a movie that I've watched countless times, as I find myself picking it up once in a while when I'm in the mood for something funny and familiar.

A Fish Called Wanda
The Brits and the Americans join forces and give us one of the most memorable comedies of the 80s. This movie is all about the characters. Each with a set of quirks that makes them so lovable. The Monty Python team (Cleese, Palin) is as good as they always are, but Kevin Kline steals the show (when an actor receives and Oscar for his performance in a comedy like this, he's done something right!). My favorite part is definitely the "dog-killings", as cruel as that may sound.

The Terminator
This is mandatory viewing for all testosterone filled guys in their teens. Just pure and brutal action from the old-style, one-line Arnold, that we all like so much. The movie simplifies a complex story, to a point, where everyone can accept it. This is the best action movie of the 80s, closely followed by Die Hard.

Raiders of the Lost Ark (Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark)
Indiana Jones has become the very definition of adventure. This playful classic never has a dull moment, and takes us from one breathtaking action sequence to another. Two of the most memorable scenes in this movie is (1) the expression on Harrison Fords face when he shoots the big guy with the sword, (2) the way the nazi torturer put together his coat hanger. The story is easy to follow, and all the characters are easy to like (or dislike, in the case of the villains). Not to say that this movie doesn't have it weaknesses, but they are all forgiven and forgotten instantly, as we're having to much fun watching the man with the hat and whip.

Alien 1979,  R)
Alien
The birth of the most horrific monster ever to grace the big screen. This movie has a fantastic suspenseful atmosphere, much due to the superb sets and chilling, metallic sound. Ridley Scott does everything right, by using a slow build-up and not jumping straight into the action. However, when the action starts, it's almost unbearably exciting, and it doesn't let go until the very last minute. This is the very definition of science fiction horror!

2001: A Space Odyssey
One of the most interesting and puzzling movies in history. The visual beauty and powerful sound makes this a movie you'll never forget. I personally find the first segment to be the best, and the famous scene (& the even more famous sound) with the ape using tools for the first time, is my all time favorite movie scene. The middle part of the movie, while important, tends to get a bit tedious once in a while (especially upon repetitive viewings). Though, this is quickly forgiven when we are given such grand ending. It's a deeply philosophical movie, and I won't claim to understand it. But, why do one always have to get everything spelled out for you? This movie will be remembered, for a long, long time...

King Kong
Size matters! Having seen the 2005 remake by Peter Jackson, I had some idea of what to expect. However, I had presumed that most of the action on the island was something PJ added, as I couldn't imagine how they could show those fights in 1933. I was blown away by the FX in both movies, each in its own way. To have seen this for the first time back when it came out must have been a grand experience. The movie is way ahead of its time in both FX, sets and storytelling. It's easy to see why King Kong has been one of the most influential movies of all time. I don't understand how I could have waited this long to see this for the first time. King Kong, is definitely a ten in my book.
