My Favorite Movies

1
Rosemary's Baby 1968,  R)
Rosemary's Baby
One of my favourite 'horror' films. Excellent casting, some weird characters, the next door neighbours perhaps not from hell, but certainly they'll be going there....
2
Twin Peaks - Fire Walk with Me 1992,  R)
Twin Peaks - Fire Walk with Me
Now this isn't really a film is it? I can't imagine what a nightmare its plot would be for anyone watching this without having seen every minute of the tv series, because it is a nightmare even for those that have. However if you want something that will make you think 'what the hell?' then this is perfect. I happen to like things that don't make sense, because they can get the imagination flowing and you can form your own explanations for things, which can be subjective from person to person. I hate hollywood spoonfeeding plots to the very last detail. This film is the exact opposite and that is why it is the best.
3
Mulholland Drive 2001,  R)
Mulholland Drive
Everything I want from a film. Gives your brain a workout, something you need to think about afterwards.
4
The Night of the Hunter 1955,  PG)
The Night of the Hunter
They just don't do suspense like they used to do they? Not particularly keen on the ending though.
5
Strangers on a Train 1951,  PG)
Strangers on a Train
Excellent. Perfect thriller. I love Bruno Antony, he's mental.
6
Fright Night 1985,  R)
Fright Night
The perfect vampire horror film. Funny in the right places. I love the disco scene. Dandridge is the ultimate cool vampire.
7
Heathers 1988,  R)
Heathers
The perfect Black comedy.
8
Stephen King's It 1990,  Unrated)
Stephen King's It
An unforgettable cult classic. I cannot imagine any other actor playing Pennywise other than Tim Curry. It is perfect casting. Scenes from this movie will haunt your youth, and make you laugh forever. I know it isn't a comedy, but try telling me you didn't laugh once.

I think this film is an excellent example of why a movie doesn't need much action. too many hollywood movies have minute after minute of pointless action, this movie is straight to the point. When something happens, it happens, and doesn't take forever to do so. It also shows you can do horror without even having to kill anyone on screen. 2 people die in this film yet it still rules.
9
My Neighbor Totoro 1988,  G)
My Neighbor Totoro
I think this is the best kids film I have ever seen, and I saw this when I was 23. I wish I had seen it when I was a child. Definitely one to get for your children. I think this film 100% sums up everything it means to be a child, and the strong imagination that just disappears as you grow old.
10
Wayne's World 1992,  PG-13)
Wayne's World
A rare 5 out of 5 film. Brilliant cult jokes and jargon, excellent story and characters.
11
Dead Alive (Braindead) 1992,  R)
Dead Alive (Braindead)
Over the top gore, poor acting, out of this world characters, rat monkeys, shagging zombies giving birth to babies, an extremely ugly female, a weedy matt bellamy lookalike... an amazing film. A couple of key scenes in this movie will live on forever by word of mouth alone... such as 'I kick ass for the lord'.
12
Fright Night Part 2 1988,  R)
Fright Night Part 2
As good as the original. One of the only movies to be as consistant as the original. Where this movie lacks in Dandridge, it makes up for with a cool rollerblading vampire. I mean how do they come up with this shit? A rollerblading vampire ?? That isn't your average character.
13
Lost Highway 1997,  R)
Lost Highway
Excellent Movie, Excellent Soundtrack. Another movie that doesn't really explain itself, and leaves you to decide instead.
14
The Terminator 1984,  R)
The Terminator
The unbeatable Sci-fi Movie. Along with Blade Runner, this movie makes all other cyborg films worthless.
15
Terminator 2: Judgment Day 1991,  R)
Terminator 2: Judgment Day
I do not think this is as good as Terminator, but when I was a child I preffered it. The slick graphics stunned you.
16
The Shining 1980,  R)
The Shining
Kubrick and Jack Nicholson are at their peak for this movie. Nicholson plays a crazy man like no one will ever do again. Perfect casting.
17
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest 1975,  R)
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
And again Jack Nicholson plays 'crazy' like no one else ever could. Unmatchable acting performance. Excellent plot.
18
Blade Runner 1982,  R)
Blade Runner
Only Terminator can compare with this movie as far as sci-fi content is concerned. However, the futuristic setting on this movie goes even beyond Terminator.
19
Commando 1985,  R)
Commando
As far as action goes, this film has the best action in it full stop. Along with total recall, this film shows why Arnie was the best. One man beating an entire army alone. A mans movie if there ever was one.
20
Total Recall 1990,  R)
Total Recall
Up there with commando, this one has a good Sci-fi element to it. Some of the best action I've seen in a movie, excellent killings.
21
Purple Rain 1984,  R)
Purple Rain
Not the best acting, but has to have the best music in a movie. Unbelievable performances from Prince, and I like his relationship with Apollonia.
22
This Is Spinal Tap 1984,  R)
This Is Spinal Tap
The best rock movie. If you like metal, cock rock, glam, hair metal, you'll love this.
23
The Time Machine 1960,  G)
The Time Machine
A classic movie which set sci-fi standards high where they belong. Excellent plot, entertaining and fun. Something to dig out for the youngsters.
24
The People Under The Stairs 1991,  R)
The People Under The Stairs
Seriously excellent horror movie. I like the pairing of the couple, who were also a couple in twin peaks. They make a really weird pairing. I also like the kid, especially when he says 'you ain't ever seen a brother before?' hehe. Roach looks like Richey Edwards.
25
Under the Cherry Moon 1986,  PG-13)
Under the Cherry Moon
This movie is full of style, with an excellent cast and some brilliant music.
26
BASEketball 1998,  R)
27
Mr. Deeds 2002,  PG-13)
Mr. Deeds
Adam Sandler on top form. I think mr Sneaky Sneaky makes this one though.
28
Anchorman - The Legend Of Ron Burgundy 2004,  PG-13)
Anchorman - The Legend Of Ron Burgundy
A modern classic comedy, quotable, has more memorable scenes than most, my favourites being the 'gun show' and the 'sex panther'.
29
The Wedding Singer 1998,  PG-13)
30
Coming to America 1988,  R)
Coming to America
Truely one of the best comedy movies of all time. Eddie Murphy was the best, and I feel its sad that he concentrates on the junk kids movies when this is what he was capable of.
31
Basic Instinct 1992,  R)
Basic Instinct
Excellent Sexual Tension. The plot is great too.. Thrilling and sometimes shocking.
32
Fast Times At Ridgemont High 1982,  R)
Fast Times At Ridgemont High
In my opinion the very best teen comedy ever made so far. I doubt any new one could beat it for me either because I just love the 80's that much. Excellent music, great up and coming actors/actresses, great swimming pool/masturbation scene.. pure legend. Spicoli is a great recording of a near extinct 80's stoner surfer dude.

I think these movies are brilliant in hindsight because they show you what it was like to be at school in the USA in the 80's. Perhaps this is exagerated but we all have stories just like these from our days at school.
33
Victim 1962,  Unrated)
Victim
Brilliant film, the first to deal with homosexuality. Has some excellent characters, I tend to really like the bribing motorcycle guy.
34
The Basketball Diaries 1995,  R)
35
Men At Work 1990,  PG-13)
Men At Work
This movie is hardly known but it is an absolute comedy classic. Sheen and Estevez team up as a pair of binmen with bigger dreams. The movie has a 'token' black boss (are all bosses in america black? especially police chiefs). A black man accompanies them, with one of the best comedy performances i've ever seen. "There are several sacred things in this world that you don't ever mess with. One of them happens to be another mans' fries. Now you remember that, and you'll live a long and healthy life."
36
Child's Play 2 1990,  R)
Child's Play 2
Crrrrazy Bitch!
37
Friday the 13th Part VIII - Jason Takes Manhattan 1989,  R)
Friday the 13th Part VIII - Jason Takes Manhattan
Best Jason film by miles, despite the Jason 'takes manhattan' tag... This movie spends most of its time on a boat. But from the sex scene at the start, to the killing on the boat, you know it is a great movie. The best scene in my opinion is the 'give me your best shot.. mother-fucker'.. when Jason punches the guys head off in one punch, then it lands in a bin. Excellent stuff.
38
Serial Mom 1994,  R)
Serial Mom
I truely rate this movie. An excellent black comedy story. Poor drama at its best. The kind of true movie I find myself addicted to.
39
Fortress 1993,  R)
Fortress
An interesting sci-fi storyline. I love the intestinators and the '187' guy.
40
Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in The Hood 1996,  R)
41
Metropolis 1927,  PG-13)
Metropolis
Interesting stuff. The actress that plays Maria, Brigitte Helm, is fantastic. She goes from sincere and innocent to a bad girl in the space of one movie.
42
The Bat 1959,  PG)
The Bat
A quality movie, it keeps you guessing throughout to who 'the bat' is. Movies like this shouldn't be forgotten.
43
Ed Wood 1994,  R)
Ed Wood
I think this might be the best Tim Burton film..
44
Hedwig and the Angry Inch 2001,  R)
Hedwig and the Angry Inch
Great movie, something a bit different with great imagery and costumes.
45
The Amazing Quest of Ernest Bliss (The Amazing Adventure)(Romance and Riches) 1936,  G)
The Amazing Quest of Ernest Bliss (The Amazing Adventure)(Romance and Riches)
A good moralistic story.
46
American Psycho 2000,  R)
American Psycho
This was excellent but I'm not sure if the version I saw (BBC2) was cut or not because there really wasn't that much gore or violence. I liked the references to 80's culture and the way all of the vice presidents all blended into one character.
47
Eyes Wide Shut 1999,  R)
Eyes Wide Shut
Purely excellent film, not quite perfect due to it's main actor being Tom Cruise and being a little on the long side, but nonetheless, an excellent thought inspiring plot. An erotic, sexy movie that anyone that has been in an awkward relationship will love.
48
The Rules of Attraction 2002,  R)
The Rules of Attraction
Generation Xcess on a trip of sex drink and drugs. It has some good production features, in telling the story in the intro with rewind sequences, without being too pretentious or artistic.
49
The Naked City 1948,  Unrated)
The Naked City
It was nice to see New York a long time ago and see how it differed from how it appears in new movies. I liked the voiceover, it made it more of a 'film noir' and there isn't enough of that nowadays.
50
Blue Velvet 1986,  R)
Blue Velvet
Excellent movie, there are some total weirdos in this film. I wouldn't like to meet them! A girl that wants to get hit all the time, a dude that wants to fuck everything that walks and chops ears off, a kid that likes to perv and snoop. I don't understand why the kid, Jeffery, wants to do all this snooping, its too dangerous, he obviously enjoyed being a perv. And which girl does he want? He doesn't make any attempt to decide, he fancies both the mental one and the normal one.
51
Rear Window 1954,  PG)
Rear Window
Shows that you don't need millions of pounds of special effects and hundreds of scenes to make a good movie. A good plot carries itself.
52
Dial M for Murder 1954,  PG)
Dial M for Murder
Clever and very well thought plot.
53
House of Wax 1953,  Unrated)
House of Wax
It's always refreshing to go and watch an old classic after all these modern movies. Maybe film directors should do it more often because this is how a real film should be done. It amazes me how the horror elements of the genre have changed since then. There is no cliche here whatsoever. As a matter of fact it isn't really a scary movie, but some good fight scenes and a creepy burns victim keeps you on the edge of your seat.
54
Rebel Without a Cause 1955,  PG-13)
Rebel Without a Cause
Ultra cool James Dean, who looks much older than the rest of his school friends. In fact I feel like they did that on purpose, as he and Natalie Wood are portrayed as surrogate parents to 'Plato' who is clearly immature and desperate. A great reflection on the struggle of parents to adapt to the rise of the teenager.
55
The Haunting 1963,  G)
The Haunting
I love theodora!
56
Velvet Goldmine 1998,  R)
Velvet Goldmine
I liked it... quality music, great clothes and make up. Would have got 5 stars but the end wasn't exactly up to the standard of the rest of the movie.
57
Hard Candy 2005,  R)
Hard Candy
Very scary. I think the point to this was that it never explains who the girl is. I doubt she's 14 year old Hayley at all, she was just young looking. She used the disguise to trick the man and it worked. It is believable and realistic and that's why it's frightening.
58
To Catch a Thief 1955,  Unrated)
To Catch a Thief
I rated this 5 stars and it's not even the best Hitchcock film apparently! Bring the rest on
59
It's a Wonderful Life 1946,  G)
It's a Wonderful Life
Cinema doesn't get much better.
60
Hotaru no haka (Grave of the Fireflies) 1988,  Unrated)
Hotaru no haka (Grave of the Fireflies)
Quite literally the saddest, most depressing movie I have ever seen.
61
Fatal Attraction 1987,  R)
Fatal Attraction
Frightening. I bet you this movie scared a lot of men who were considering cheating on their wives. I think it's quite realistic too.. I can imagine it happening. How come this hasn't got a higher average rating? I don't really like Glenn Close, I don't get why any guy would have an affair with her character, but she gives an amazing performance in this movie.
62
Addicted to Love 1997,  R)
Addicted to Love
I was surprised by this one. I liked it more than I thought I would. I hate most romantic comedies because the characters always do my head in with their completely unrealistic dialogue. This one was pretty cool though, despite having the most ridiculous plot. I can't really see how anyone can spend that much time away from work, living in a derelict building. I guess it's a total fantasy storyline. If this has happened in real life, I'll eat my hat.
63
Desperately Seeking Susan 1985,  PG-13)
Desperately Seeking Susan
Madonna in her prime. Rosanna Arquette is also fabulous. Excellent and Iconic 80's Movie.
64
Wild At Heart 1990,  R)
Wild At Heart
A Pretty good film, good violence right from the beginning where Nicolas Cage kills a man with his bare hands for no good reason (he could have just knocked him out i suppose). He goes to jail 2 times, fucks the shit out of a skinny girl a few times.. Sounds like a good film doesn't it? The thing that ruined it for me was the wizard of oz references. Could have done without them, because it didn't really add anything.
65
Cape Fear 1962,  Unrated)
Cape Fear
Great suspense. Robert Mitchum is a legend.
66
Peeping Tom 1960,  Unrated)
67
Cape Fear 1991,  R)
Cape Fear
Not quite as good or scary as the original, but certainly more violent. Good performance from De Niro as expected.
68
Vanilla Sky 2001,  R)
Vanilla Sky
Surprisingly good for a Tom Cruise Movie. Thought inspiring plot.
69
American History X 1998,  R)
American History X
Not for the faint at heart or those offended by racism. This movie hits hard with its message.
