A wonderfully acted story. Fun and bitter-sweet, this film is a fascinating tale about loss and companionship. It has you rolling with laughter and quieted with tears. A good guy-flic.
A captivating, edge-of-the-seat film. This story, its characters, and enchanting setting engaged and entertained me through its entirety. Binoche was brilliant. An added feature, Nick Nolte was only seen and heard for a few minutes.
Outstanding. This film is exquisitely written and beautifully acted. Intense and quietly edgy, the film portrays the subtle transformation of a man who is part of the East German Stasi. A complex story of disillusionment, love, despair and desperation... and also about hope.
This film was absolutely delightful. Set in East Berlin just-before, and then after the fall of the wall, a family tries to help their socialist mother (who was in a coma during the whole ordeal of October 1989) hold on to what was dear to her about the East... from Pickles to music.
While this film may not be for everyone, there are definately some lovely bits of music (e.g., the Origin of Love). A fanciful story, filled with drama, crisis, and resolution.
