My Favorite Movies

Definitely my most favourite film of all time. Vampire films should not about special effect, vampire baring fangs and saying cheesy lines about how they want to rule the world. Interview With A Vampire is a drama about people who happen to survive by drinking other people's blood. They don't wear costumes made of latex and doing all of those martial art stunts. Instead, they contemplate on how much the world has changed and whether should they also change or not.

Tim Burton was born to direct Batman, and this one is the finest Dark Knight film ever released. It is darkly comical. Batman by far is the most complicated hero of all time. He doesn't have super power, yet he is feared by superheroes and villains alike. He has enemies that are not just evil, but completely undefineable with their own sense of logic. Burton's Batman always managed to capture the dark side of the Cape Crusader, at the same time reveal the joyful and comical side of the story.

A good vampire film is less flying and shoving enemies in to the wall, but simply a deep look into the soul of these beautiful creatures that oftenly being misunderstood by others

revenge is a dish best served cold. tarantino obviously has his own way of story telling. there is only one way to describe Kill Bill...Cool!

a friend of mine once said Pitch Black is Agatha Christie on space. Why the director decided to make a lousy sequel (Chronicles of Riddick) to this film, I don't know. Pitch Black is a space adventure like no other. Do not expect super high tech machinery or others, the story is just about a group of people trying to survive from the hasrh environment. Some of them might suceed, some of them might not.

Disney's greatest cartoon. hands down. plus who doesn't like the songs? Hakuna Matata everybody!

As Roald Dalh was definitely the best children author ever lived, James and The Giant Peach is a wonderful adaptation. The animation has Tim Burtonish creepiness and Henry Selick's quirkiness. A classic for a lifetime.

history needs a little unrelevant twist. Plunkett & Macleane is a fun film to watch. It might set on the 18th century with some random modern twists thrown into it for the fun element. It's cool, even before there was the english expression "cool".

simply an artwork. in order to see this film you have to see the first Ghost In The Shell. Innocence is just a stunning visual masterpiece, the story is a bit confusing though compared to the first one

Thank God Christopher Nolan has the talent to write and direct. If not, he must be a psycho. It takes concentration to watch Memento. The story is amazing. The moral that I got from watching this film is never forget to take ginkgo biloba vitamins so won't forget anything.

many people don't like this film. maybe because it is a Joel Schumacher's film. I've watched the opera and it was amazing. I can't say it is a good movie, but for me it is an entertaining one. It's lack the drama and tension, unlike the opera. But the visual and music deserve credits of their own

St. Trinian's offers a fresh adaptation of one of my favourite stories during childhood. The story is of course about girl power with attitude. The chemistry between Rupert Everett and Colin Firth is absolutely hillarious.

St. Trinian's male counterpart, The History Boys is taken from the stage to the silver screen. Witty and obnoxious in dialogues, the story tells the lives of British high school boys and their journey to pass university exam in good old 1985

this is by far the best Batman film since Tim Burton's. If Burton managed to give us the darkly comic and satyrical Batman, Christopher Nolan succeeded on bringing new Batman into reality.

Remember the Robin Hood who spoke with American accent? Insert Kevin Costner's name here *cough cough*. This is a brilliant spoof of the Prince of Thieves story. They really did not shy away from making fun of the story, which actually worked out very well.

The best animation coming out of South Korea! When the world's loses all its energy sources, people use human poos as the new source. After doing their businesses, humans are given chemical popsicles to help their digestive systems only to find those popsicles are addictive. Some of the humans who are incurable from this addiction then become the Diaper Gang, a bunch of green murderous bean-sprout looking creatures. Enter Aachi and Ssipak (am not gonna even translate what their names' mean), 2 happy-go-lucky pricks who are trying to fish out fortune from the shitty situation. Psycho!

Psycho in my opinion is Alfred Hitchcock's greatest creation. Whether you're watching the original black and white version or the remake with Vince Vaughn as Norman Bates, you will always be taken aback by the story. Watch out for guys like Norman Bates.

The third scariest horror film. Again 70's horror films really know how to tone down the drama and make it look like something that could happen anyday.

After watching Wacthmen, I finally came into a conclusion that all of Alan Moore's graphic novels are just simply unfilmable. V for Vendetta was okay, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen sucked. Badly! Watchmen was decent. Quite enjoyable to watch (nice soundtracks, fighting scene, etc), but truly could not capture the essence of the book.

i like the idea behind The Cell. human mind is a vast and complex world, and each of us are trapped in our own imagination. Although Jennifer Lopez gave a so so peerformance, the story and cinematography are still very enjoyable to watch

I haven't read the book, but the film is magic. Coraline is a children's story that is not meant for children. Sometimes we forget that children's stories are actually much creeppier and intense than adult's, especially if it comes from Neil Gaiman's imagination. As a film, I think Henry Selick did a good job with the stop motion animation. This film is by far the best stop motion fim I've ever seen.

since the film sets in South Africa, the plot is of course about apartheid. But this apartheid is from human toward the alien that got stranded in Johannesburg because their ship stoped functioning. Excellent acting, plot, and cinematography (it was made as if a documentary). Best summer film for this year.

Tamora is the coolest charachter. Refusing to be treated as an object, the queen masterminds a plot of horrible revenge towards a man who robbed her of her first son. She meets an ugly demise, but everybody pays the price they must pay

Robert Downey Jr's back from the dead film. Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang is hillarious. Robert Downey Jr plays Harry, a new movie star doing a research for his new role. Therefore he must tag along Perry Van Shriek, a supercool gay detective played brilliantly by Vl Kilmer. Harry's stupidity always gets in Perry's way. But when Harry's childhood sweetheart, Harmony, comes bringing in a new case. Harry and Perry must start working together in a most unusual partnership.

Anne Hathaway succeed on shaking of her Princess Diary and Devil Wears Prada image. She plays Jane Austen, a brilliant, charming young woman trying to find love. But in the end, sometimes love comes in a different way in order to make you happy.

Up is funny and heartwarming. It touches you and makes you want to cry, but not in the way Bambi and Lion King did. The sight of the chubby Russel itself will make you smile plus the army of highly trained mutts who talk and cook. Definetely a family entertainment

Human have lots of similarities, but yet boys and girls will always be different. Oh, the irony. The film starts with a very funny opening, whoever Jenna Beckman is, it sucks to be her. As the narrator insists, it is not a love story. But a story about a guy living a lifa that he thinks he shares with his true love. But reality bites, my friend, she dumps him and wants to end up as just friends. Joseph Gordon-Levitt gives a light and totally cute performance, as well as his fellow geeky-cutie Matthew Gray Gubler. Remember, it is not a love story

Blaaaahhhh... The story is very vague, the acting is so-so. No explanation why is this little girl happen to have the ability to manipulate people's mind. In fact, she is more annoying than creepy.

A fresh approach to a classic character. The story is very entertaining rather than the usual serious one. The dialogue is very tongue and cheek, the actions are cool. Sherlock Holmes IS a cocky bastard, Robert Downey Jr portays the cockiness with the addition of sense of humour. Most people forget that John Watson is a veteran of the Afghan war and Jude Law could portray Watson's agressive side. I hope if there's gonna be a sequel, it will also be this good or far better

The second Keanu-Wynona duet. Okay, Keanu might be stiff and flat. But the story about drug-control police officer and his junkie friends in the near future is really interesting. Woody Harrelson and Robert Downey Jr. completely steal the spotlight from Keanu delivering a comedic and vulgar approach to the story. Must watch.

Brittany Murphy's accent might be a bit weird, but it is a funny and refreshing story about friends and love. The characters are so much fun and the ending is light and entertaining. Murphy and Matthew Rhys play besst friends really well, each trapped in their own fantasies about love and life. This is not the usual Hollywood type of romantic comedy. In fact, it's British.

A young woman who suffers from mild case alzheimer finds love in the mental institution. The story is very simple, yet the acting is divine. This is a very great example of love conquers everything, even when your beloved goes senile

This is a cooperation between Egyptian and Israeli film companies. Sounds impossible, eh? 9 men from Cairo Police Department Orchestra are lost in an Israeli suburb in the middle of nowhere. They start to have interesting interactions with the locals. The film moves slowly, but it is done in a lovely way complete with high class acting.

All of James Cameron's sins in the past for making Titanic have been paid by Avatar. Besides the very cool effects and action sequences, Avatar has a solid storyline. The acting is good, and there isn't any single character that goes in vain. 3 hours really don't feel like a waste of time. Must watch!!

Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino are not just best friend, but the combination of both of them just kicks ass!! Both films have stories of B-class films quality. You just need actors such as Jean-Claude van Damme, Steven Seagal or Dolph Lundgren to make it extra cheesy. But both directors succeeded making the stories that are so bad to be SO GOOD. Planet Terror and Deathproof definetely are cult favourites for movie-buffs and geeks alike!

A housekeeper who has a penchant for killing everybody who stands on her way sounds really creepy. But in this British comedy Maggie Smith plays a hillarious housekeeper who has a deep dark secret. A very non-traditional family film with clever humours thrown into the right places

The Coen brothers really made a smart comedy. All of the actors acted really well and Brad Pitt looked impossibly youthful and dumb. But it just the end when John Malkovich went berserk and started attacking a guy with a hammer was a bit too much. Overally funny and smart

This isn't exactly a war film, but a great film it is. Friendship may comes in a strange way, in this case in the border between the North and South Korea. 4 soldiers from different sides enjoy a friendship during a pretty peaceful time. But sometimes the cost of maintaining such friendship must be paid in an expensive way

Even though the pace of the film is slow and there are so many scenes depicting the mentality of the characters, it is still very interesting to watch. weird as in the appearance of a man who disappears and appears as a messiah and has the ability to cure people. This film is more of an experimental film, so there are some parts that rough on the edges. Plus grotesque sculptors made of human bodies..awesome...

A very good idea, but BADLY executed.Paul Bettany's acting skill is of course sublime as always. But that alone can't save this film from being miserable. All of the characters are so cliche with no deeper approach to their personalities, even to the story itself. Such a pity since the film poster is so cool.

A British officer develops a strange friendship with his Japanese counterpart, while the commanding officer of the camp begins to have an infatuation towards a certain rebellious prisoner played by David Bowie. A different way to look upon the machismo of war

I can't believe this story actually happened. It really did, in mid 90s Texas, when George W. Bush was still the governor. Stephen Russel maybe the next greatest con artist after Frank Abegnale. It is just unbelievable how many times he succeeded escaping from a high security prisons!

Jim Carrey in a serious role. I'm surprise to see how fragile he is in this film. Eventhough the film is light and slightly whimsical, I am afraid to imagine if one day someone could control your dreams and your reality

This is a pretty decent teeny-bopper film. I was expectng the worse, the only reason why I went to watch this film was because Uma Thurman, Sean Bean, Pierce Brosnan and other famous names were in it. Turned out it was pretty good. A fun and modern approach to classical Greek mythologies. I was happy in the end the main character didn't kiss the girl he liked

There are only 3 epic stories in this world: Mahabhrata, The Illiad, and The Romance of Three Kingdoms. Red Cliff is the story of the latter. It is impossible to make a film detailing in the entire war, so the film just focuses on the battle of Red Cliff. The dialogues are full with philosophies. People who are not familiar with chinese literatue might find it confusing sometimes, but overall it is easy to digest, although some people might find the character Xiao Qiao to be just the next pretty face that doesn't contribute anything to the story.

Holy Cow! Burton, Depp and Elfman did it again. Though this film is much more about "Through The Looking Glass" rather than "Alice In Wonderland", it is very entertaining and quirky. The Alice In Wonderland and Through The Looking Glass stories are not just meant for children, but also contains layers for mature readers. The films may have brilliant settings, costumes and music. But some scenes have deeper meanings for mature audiences. Plus, Johnny Depp can do no wrong

For those who don't know, Ip Man (Ye Wen in Mandarin) was the master of Wing Chun and the only Chinese martial arts master who accepted Bruce Lee to become his student. Since Bruce Lee was 1/4 German, thus against the philosophies of "Kung Fu can only be taught to pure Chinese". This film is a biography of young Ip Man before he moved to Hongkong and opened a dojo there. The story sets in 1937 when the Japanese army invaded China and the young Ip Man must restore peace at his hometown Fuoshan, the center of China's Southern Martial Arts, whether he likes it or not.

Wong Fei Hung was a legend in Chinese Kung Fu from the famed town Fuoshan. This is a semi-biography about him when he started his dojo/clinic, Po Chi Lam. Sets during the late Manchu dynasty where foreigners started coming to China to do trade. Definitely THE BEST Jet Li film of all time!!!

Wong Fei Hung is back. This time he must protect a young student named Sun Yat Sen, but he has to face a great adversary. The Manchu general with ambiguous moral, Nap Lan. This film has the best fight scene in both Jet Li and Donnie Yen's entire careers ever!

Long before the high school story in America was about popular vs unpopular with half of the school's female population was composed of amateur whores, there was The Breakfast Club. John Hughes was one of the best directors to capture a moment that happens once in one's life. The simple story about 5 teenagers who had to stuck with each other in one unfortunate day. This experience might not changed their lives drastically, but sure will be unforgettable

Another great once in a lifetime experience from John Hughes. He once said that this film is his loveletter to Chicago, as Woody Allen always makes his films in Hollywood (count out 3 of his latest films). In every teenager's life out there should be a day like what Ferries, Cameron, and Sloane had.

Eileen Chang only wrote a 28-pages long short story, and Ang Lee expanded it into a 22.5 hours film. I read the story before I actually watched the film and was actually skeptic on how Ang Lee would expand the story. But it turned out the film stuck to the original story and he tastefully added some scenes that were not in the book

A very flambuoyant adaptation of Alexandre Dumas' classic

All of the animals speak with American accent while the humans speak with British accent. The film is heavy with Anderson's signature and it actually makes this film as one hell of animation and a hell of funny quirky story. Like all of Anderson's films

Roller derby isn't a well known sport outside the US. But this film helps explain what the sport is about. Beneath the layer of heavy make up and rainbow tights, hides the raw and brutal force of feminine aggressiveness. Awesome soundtracks too! Hands down to Drew Barrymore's directorial debut.

The original story is a British children book. It is wiity and snappy. The film is Hollywoodified to the max. Dramatization and everything. THEY CHANGED THE STORY A LOT! But maybe many of the book's pages wouldn't translate well into the screen so they had to make the film only loosely based from the book. The first 15 minutes was a bit lagging for me, but when Hiccup started to know the dragon, Toothless, things got quite interesting. Yep, it is the Hollywood way, but still hits the soft spot inside us all. Although I highly recommend the book. The story is so much better there, and most importantly the book has a taste of sarcams that the film lacks.

A story about speedfreaks. The way the film is shot supposed to look like a speedfreak's point of view, but it's strongly similar to Oliver Stone's "Natural Born Killer". Crazy film. You'll laugh.

I watched it when I was very small. Last night I watched it again and found myself still enjoyed the film very much. The special effect is pretty cool. Back before computer animation was invented, they used clay animation. I love the part when the statue of Thetys fell down and she spoke to the people. The fight with Medusa is also awesome. The main character, Perseus, is handsome, athletic and bla bla bla.. But he's also quite clumsy since he's ypung and inexperience which actually adds a nice characterstic to the famed Greek demi-god hero.

Shut up! Kick Ass! This is one of veeery few films adapted from comic and actually turned up good. Actions, violence, humor and everything graphic. You name it, this film has it. Will be a classic. Although the coolest character is definitely Hit Girl. She kicks ass!

Before I saw this remake of 1981's film, I was expecting that this film would just gonna be the same story with better special effects, bloodier actions, and more sex scenes. I turned up quite wrong. The basic of the story is the same, about Perseus must take down the path to be a hero. But they changed the romance to be a bit different from the myth. As Irealized many films now preferred to have independent heroes/heroines who don't lean their happiness on other people, but instead fulfill it themselves. Perseus is truly a hero here, magically transforms from a simple fisherman to a skilled fighter. The Perseus from the original film is a bit clumsy, since he's experienced. The special effect is of course amazing, but the Medusa scene still cannot compete with the tension in the original one. I was actually surprised that there was no nude scenes in this film, and I think it is a very good film that emphasizes more on the camaraderie than erotic scenes. Very enjoyable to watch, even though the story is weak.

After watching Donnie Yen in Yip Man, I thought 14 Blades would be something with heavy drama, philosophy, and fight scenes. The story is based on real elite force during Ming Dynasty called Jin Yi Wei. But it is such a pity that the philosophy and moral behind the force and its agents, especially Donnie Yen is not cultivated at all in this film. He just comes, fights, and go. Then what?Vicky Zhao's character as the daughter of an escort service's leader is very weak, both in personality and fighting skill. On the other side the character Tuo Tuo kicks ass in fighting skill, but she is very underdeveloped as a character. She just comes, says few lines, shrieks, and kicks Donnie Yen's butt. Then there's Judge of The Desert character who shows up his pretty face, takes out his cool sword, and gets his behind hands to him by Tuo Tuo. My suggestion: fast forward straight to the fight scenes.

Arsene Lupin is one of my 19th century favorite characters. He flirts between 2 morals. Being a gentlemen's thief he is good and mischievous at the same time. This film pulls the story from many of Lupin's inside the novels adventures. Some of the scenes might be a bit confusing, but the humor and action are nicely delivered.

Weeeird...It's like Memento meets Dark City in 18th century Paris.

Iron Man 2 is no doubt the best film adapted from Marvel's comics. The first Iron Man is good, and the second one is even better. The humor and action are very well-placed. Yes, the story is not as gripping as the comic, but then again there are very few films adapted from comics that could carry that kind of consistency. Robert Downey Jr is truly the perfect cast for the jerky but hillarious Tony Stark. Scarlett Johansson gives a good performance, but I still think she's not the best cast for Black Widow.

Could you love your best friend more than you love your spouse? When both of your feelings are too deep, you'll end up doing crazy things for the sake of relationship's excitement. The chemistry between Marion Cotillard an Guillaume Canet is amazing! Forget all those Hollywood rom-com, this film is the one.

Can you believe this is a true story? Sometimes reality is much more exciting than fiction. Mrs. Henderson is truly a one sassy lady!

I looooove dance films and Footloose is one of my favourites! The prom dance at the end of the film is spectacular.

When I saw this film, I just fell in love with Diego and Gael. Two best friends who both fall in love with a much deeper woman that tears their friendship. Really, women ARE that powerful.

Long before Sly pumped all those steroid into his muscle, there was John Rambo. A Vietnam War veteran who has an unstable mental condition. His good intention of visiting his friend in a small town turns bad vecause of the mistreatment from the townfolks. We see Rambo losing himself more and more. Unaware which one is reality and which one is his imagination. This film is truly a classic.

Adrieeeennnne!!!!!! Contrary to popular beliefs, Syvester Stallone did make good films. Rocky and First Blood. I mean, who would not love the story and inspired by Rocky?

Although the story is historically incorrect, it is still great to watch. Russel Crowe's character, Maximus, is brooding and depressed because he losses his family, his title, and his life. But he does not lose his honor. The drama, action, plus the cinematography are very pleasant to the eyes.

It has a different approach on the wild wild west story. Sharon Stone's character although tough is also faced with circumstances that almost break her morale. Gene Hackman portrays a great villain that makes you really want to shoot him right between the eyes.

Based on novels by Patrick O'Brian. It's nice to see Russle Crowe in non-brooding mode. The acting is good, the camaraderie between Crowe and Paul Bettany is great. The story mixes good actions and light drama, plus the ever charming James D'arcy in period costume. Mmm...mmm...mmm...

Funny story about 2 best friends becoming magicians, get separated because one friend sleeps with the other friend's wife and making the other friend accidentally decapitates his wife. Ooops...4 years later they want to make a comeback in the magic showbiz, in order to do that they must work together again.

I cannot help to compare this film with Ridley Scott-Russel Crowe's other film: Gladiator. Crowe supposed to portray the brooding Robin Hood and how he fights injustice. The acting is okay, not bad but not mindblowing. I like the new take on the Robin Hood story. Instead of making him fights against Prince John and Sheriff Nottingham, this gives an alternative story on how he becomes Robin Hood. Not bad, but the other Robin Hood films are much better (not the Kevin Costner's one of course)

I was crazy about this film when I was in junior high, and I'm still crazy about this now. And..I still have no clue how to play hockey. It is a children's film about reach your dreams, believe in yourself and blablabla. But the sportsmanship portrayed in this film reaches farther than just a bunch of teenagers trying to fit in. And yes, I did have crush on the boys in this film.

A very wacky fairy tales that brings laughs to everybody

The girls are baaack! Some might get a bad impression about the middle east from this film. As a person who have been to the Middle East, I kinda understand the confusion and the cultural clashes the girl experience. It shows how sometimes people forget where they are and how they should behave. Fortunately the girls show it in the most humorous way.

The series always be the best forever, but the adaptation is not disappointing at all. The message is simple, you have to be happy with yourself in order to be happy in your life. But it is waaay fun to be a girl.

This film is also adapted from a Belgian comic book. The story is soooo weird, very much in touch with the shamanistic rituals the main character believes. It is so much fun to watch as well.

Okay, nothing can beat the series. Come on, Mr. T is definitely an icon! But this big screen adaptation is actually not bad. In some scenes the CGI are obvious, but at least they keep the tempo and the chemistry between the characters intact. Murdock steals the spotlight during the first half and the actor who portrays him does a good job, but towards the end of the film Murdock becomes less insane. Come on! He's our favourite loony!

Watch it online and just skip it to the fighting scenes or whenever Rain is shirtless

Another great adaptation of great comic book series. Although the mood in the comic book is very dark and the story is tad serious, the film is freshly entertaining. The story is so much lighter than the comic, but it actually turns this film into a fast and funny action film. This film stands on its own and I bet its loved by the hardcore comic fans.

It focuses on the changing of Jack Nicholson character's psychology and his interaction with people near her. I'm still guessing is Michelle Pfeiffer the wolf who actually bites him in the first place?

It is such a pity that today's generation only know Cher as an aging and quirky celebrity. She is, by all means, a good actress and this film proves it.

Despite all of the edgy, scary, and f***** up films I love to watch, I have a soft spot for cartoons. This particular one about a Jewish mouse Fievel's adventure in America is really special. The scene where Fievel sings "Somewhere Out There" with his sister, Tanya, still makes me shed few tears. Damn!

Damn Don Bluth and his ability to create cartoons that make me bawl! After An American Tail, I cried my eyes out again watching this film. The friendship between Littlefoot, Cera, Ducky, Petrie, and Spike overcomes all kinds of differences. It makes me laugh and cry (again). Especially with Diana Ross' song "If We Hold On Together" in the end of the film plus knowing the fact that the child actress that did Ducky's voice was tragically murdered by her father. Sob...sob...

Ang Lee's first take on western cinema turns ot to be not bad at all. The overall atmosphere is cold and each character must face his/her own bleakness while trying to reach for the warmth of others. I must give credit for the subltety that maked me feel I could endure even the saddest part.

This is the best chick flick/road trip film. I loved that the ending turned out to be not like what I expected. Great film to watch with your girlfriends or guyfriends.

Sometimes reading or watching someone's memoir either makes you feel happy that your life is not as messed up as you think it is, or it makes you second guessing the "uniqueness" of your situation. Being Augusten Borden anf had to go through a phase of living with a weird family, including a foster mother who snacked on dogchow must be quite bizarre. Add that with neurotic "older sister" and weirder father who worked as an even weirder therapist. But whatever happened in his past helped him to create a one hell of a memoir.

I've seen Samuel L. Jackson in weird films, but this one is simply the weirdest I've seen him in. The mystery is well kept and Mr. Jackson is doing pretty good playing a deranged composer.

Yes, this is the original film where Yogi Bear's alternate ending is based on. I must say although the story and acting are really good, this is quite painful to watch because the emotional baggage of each character's is almost unbearable to describe.

I kind of doubt young generations these days would appreciate this film. This is one of those mystery films that has style and suaveness. This is a Hitchcock after all.

I remember I never felt more depressed when I read the novella, but I was kind of relieved that the film was less depressing than the book. Tim Roth is a sublime character actor which explains why he is quite underrated. Because every knows only the so-so actors with good looks get all the credits.
