My Favorite Movies

  dalisherpa's Rating My Rating
1
Braveheart 1995,  R)
Braveheart
I love this movie. Great story and lots of action and excitement with a dramatic climax. Mel Gibson has recently turned psycho, but this movie is one of his best performances.
2
Fight Club 1999,  R)
Fight Club
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. Edward Norton and Brad Pitt were both incredible. The ending floored me the first time I watched it.
3
Pulp Fiction 1994,  R)
Pulp Fiction
Another of my all-time favorite movies. I can watch it again and again. So many awesome scenes and stories going on. Love how it was edited and then all pieced together.
4
The Sixth Sense 1999,  PG-13)
The Sixth Sense
I had no idea what this movie was about when I finally decided to rent it. It's a good movie that becomes a great movie when you put it all together at the end. I don't think any other movie had me thinking about it so much after I've turned off the television.
5
The Patriot 2000,  R)
The Patriot
If you liked Braveheart or if you are a Mel Gibson fan, you will enjoy this movie. Historical innacuracies aside, you have all the components for a compelling story. This is one of my favorite movies.
6
GoodFellas 1990,  R)
GoodFellas
What's not to love about a good mafia movie with Robert De Niro in it? Liotta and Pesci were both great too. I'd read the book Wiseguy before watching the movie so I enjoyed seeing the story unfold. Lots of variance from the book, but action-packed and worth watching.
7
Seven (Se7en) 1995,  R)
Seven (Se7en)
Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt both appear in two of my top ten favorite movies of all-time. I saw someone else describe this movie as absorbing and would have to agree. Very dark movie with a shocking ending.
8
Forrest Gump 1994,  PG-13)
Forrest Gump
Great Film. If you haven't seen it, you are cheating yourself. Serious, funny, sad, determined. It takes you through every set of emotions while taking a journey through the life of Forrest Gump. Tom Hanks was simply brilliant.
9
Raiders of the Lost Ark (Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark) 1981,  PG)
Raiders of the Lost Ark (Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark)
Absolutely one of the greatest action movies of all time. Harrison Ford is brilliant. This movie keeps you on the edge of your seat and is very funny.
10
Apocalypse Now 1979,  R)
Apocalypse Now
"Charlie don't surf" - Robert Duvall was crazy. So was pretty much everyone else. Martin Sheen did a really good job. One of my favorite war movies.
11
Saving Private Ryan 1998,  R)
Saving Private Ryan
The most stunning opening sequence of any movie ever made. Great camera work throughout this film. Tom Hanks is convincing as a war-hardened captain. Nice supporting cast. Go get this movie.
12
The Usual Suspects 1995,  R)
The Usual Suspects
What a cast. Great acting. Awesome ending, which seems to be a huge measure I use when judging a film. If I am still thinking about it the next day, then it is usually a good movie. This one was great.
13
Unforgiven 1992,  R)
Unforgiven
"Well, he should have armed himself if he's going to decorate his saloon with my friend."
"All right, I'm coming out. Any man I see out there, I'm gonna shoot him. Any sumbitch takes a shot at me, I'm not only gonna kill him, but I'm gonna kill his wife, all his friends, and burn his damn house down."
Maybe my favorite western of all time. Clint Eastwood, Morgan Freeman, and Gene Hackman are all fantastic in their roles.
14
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (Il Buono, il Brutto, il Cattivo.) 1966,  R)
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (Il Buono, il Brutto, il Cattivo.)
Blondie!!!
Clint Eastwood is his typical bad-ass self in this amazing western. Solid story and solid cast. One of the best westerns ever.
15
Gattaca 1997,  PG-13)
Gattaca
Ethan Hawke was very solid in his role as a genetically flawed human. I don't think this movie is for everyone, but I certainly enjoyed it. Like the synopsis says, it is a thriller, part futuristic drama and cautionary tale.
16
The Matrix 1999,  R)
The Matrix
Great action movie. Awesome idea for a film. I am guessing that if everyone was rating this movie after watching it for the first time it would get even better rating. The cast was excellant and the CGI/special effects were amazing.
17
Hero 2002,  PG-13)
Hero
Amazing martial arts choreography coupled with simply stunning cinematography. Jet Li was awesome.
18
Unbreakable 2000,  PG-13)
Unbreakable
Great movie with enjoyable characters. Would have loved to see this spawn into a trilogy.
19
Memento 2000,  R)
Memento
Wow, this movie stunned me. So different than mainstream films. Perhaps better to know ahead of time that you are watching the movie in reverse for those who easily get confused or lose interest. DVD extra's allow you to watch the movie in normal progression.
20
House of Flying Daggers (Shi mian mai fu) 2004,  PG-13)
House of Flying Daggers (Shi mian mai fu)
The story is a little weak, but just like Hero there is amazing martial arts choreography and very good cinematography. I am madly in love with Zhang Ziyi.
21
Reservoir Dogs 1992,  R)
Reservoir Dogs
"You don't need proof when you have instinct."
The movie is told through a series of flashbacks from each of the criminals. It is violent and brutal so bring a strong stomache and the ability to listen to some cussing. It's just kinda out there and I've enjoyed watching and rewatching it.
22
Lucky Number Slevin 2006,  R)
Lucky Number Slevin
Great plot twists. My favorite movies are the ones that at least begin fairly unpredictable and then take twists and turns. By the end you have it figured out, but it's an entertaining film. Josh Hartnett took it up a notch with his role.
23
The Deer Hunter 1978,  R)
The Deer Hunter
It starts off a little slow, but shows the relationship between four friends before they ship out for Vietnam. This movie hooked me on the abilities of Christopher Walken and Robert De Niro. If I wasn't such a tough guy, I might have cried at the end.
24
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind 2004,  R)
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind
Don't read another word about this movie, just go watch it without knowing a thing about it. Great movie.
25
Platoon 1986,  R)
Platoon
Tom Berenger's best role ever. William Dafoe was pretty good too. Typical war movie in some regards, but compelling story and great acting.
Sad to see ignorant people use movie reviews to spew their political beliefs. Please, get over yourself.
26
Stay 2005,  R)
Stay
This might be one of the best movies I had never heard of (happened to be on HBO). Ryan Gosling and Ewan McGregor did fantastic jobs with their characters. I believe the ending leaves lots of room for interpretation. Was the entire movie a final dream from Henry? I know that I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and highly recommend it to anyone to watch.
27
Tombstone 1993,  R)
Tombstone
"I'm your huckleberry." Val Kilmer rocked as Doc Holiday and Kurt Russell was pretty damn good as Wyatt Earp. If you like westerns, don't miss this one.
28
The Score 2001,  R)
The Score
Has Edward Norton been in a bad movie? Him and De Niro made this movie one of my favorites. Would love to see them do more stuff together.
29
American Beauty 1999,  R)
American Beauty
My friend Julie finally got me to sit down and watch this and I am glad. I couldn't imagine a better cast for each role. Phenomenal acting, bizarre storylines, and dark ending. I don't mind cookie-cutter comedies because I watch them to get laughs, but when it comes to a really enjoyable movie I either want to be moved by a compelling story, by great acting, or I want to watch something unique and entertaining. This movie had it all.
30
Stand by Me 1986,  R)
Stand by Me
This films makes you remember friendships from your childhood, laugh at young experiences, and it makes your heart ache for the tradegies that some kids have to go through. Heartwarming story that can be enjoyed by everyone.
31
It's a Wonderful Life 1946,  G)
It's a Wonderful Life
"No man is a failure who has friends." What a wonderful story. I have to echo some previous comments about this movie. It is inspiring and does help us to be thankful for our lives and loved ones. We all do make a difference in everyone's life around us. A must watch.
32
Gladiator 2000,  R)
Gladiator
This movie has tons of action and is a great story. Crowe and Phoenix were both excellant. Most of my female friends aren't interested in watching this, but I wish they would.
33
Armageddon 1998,  PG-13)
Armageddon
I think I like this movie so much because of the characters and the actors who portrayed them. Great casting job. Bruce Willis, Billy Bob Thornton, Ben Affleck, Liv Tyler, Steve Buscemi, Owen Wilson, Will Patton, Michael Clarke Duncan, Peter Stormare, Jason Isaacs, and that's not even all the stars. Bruce Willis was fantastic as the gruff father/reluctant hero. It was a pleasure to watch the relationship between him, Tyler, and Affleck and the craziness of the oil drilling crew on this inportant mission.
34
Seven Samurai (Shichinin no Samurai) 1954,  Unrated)
Seven Samurai (Shichinin no Samurai)
When I was a kid, I watched a lot of westerns. One of my favorites was The Magnificent Seven. I didn't see the Seven Samurai until 20 years after watching TMS, but it was the movie that got me interested in martial arts. This movie isn't for everyone. It's long and there is a lot of character development, but it is one I enjoy and would recommend.
35
Crash 2005,  R)
Crash
This is an awesome movie. I heard so many great things about it and am glad I finally got around to watching it. Great acting, great concept, and I love how everything tied together. Must see movie.
36
Die Hard 1988,  R)
37
Clash of the Titans 1981,  PG)
38
The Butterfly Effect 2004,  R)
The Butterfly Effect
Make sure you check out the alternate ending on the DVD. Both endings are cool. Ashton Kutcher and Amy Smart were both fantastic. A darker look at the consequences of trying to change things from the past. Who hasn't thought about it? Well, not me anymore. I don't want to lose my limbs or see an ex-girlfriend became a crack whore. Yeah, I'm kidding.

Rounders 1998,  R)

58
Heat 1995,  R)
Heat
Outstanding cast with some of my favorite actors; Pacino, De Niro, Kilmer, Sizemore, Voight, and even Ashley Judd. What is amazing is how long the movie is, but how it is filled with action. Speaking of action, it is edge of the seat action and probably the greatest get-away scene ever.

Pacino is the cop with serious marriage/personal life issues. De Niro is the bad guy who is trapped in a criminal life he doesn't want. The director did a great job showing how similar, in some ways, each of their lives are.

I've seen this movie several times and if I am channell flipping and it's on, it's one I always stop to watch.

The Fugitive 1993,  PG-13)
