The Crow 1994,  R)
The Crow
Despite it differing somewhat from James O'Barrs original graphic novel the film stands apart as a separatye entity and is brilliant in it's own way. it's hard to tell though if it achieved the level of fame it did due to the tragic death of Brandon Lee or inspite of it.
2
The Dark Knight 2008,  PG-13)
The Dark Knight
absolutely stunning. gloriously dark. the only regret I have is that the joker character will never be that good again. I must keep this short for fear of writing a 5000 word fan-boy essay extoling its virtues whilst offering nothing of real use to the reader. Brilliant, bring on the next installment.
3
The Shawshank Redemption 1994,  R)
The Shawshank Redemption
escapism both literal and figurative. there are two scenes in this that stand out in my mind, firstly the scene where Andy plays opera across the PA system to the prisoners, and secondly the euphoric scene of his eventual escape from the eponymous prison itself.
4
Pan's Labyrinth 2006,  R)
Pan's Labyrinth
when Guillermo del Toro directs sopmething he's interested in and passionate about the results are stunning, unlike blade II and hellboy. The sequences in Ophellias fantasy world are brilliantly done, even if you watch this knowing that they are imaginary, the film is done in such a way that you still doubt this and wonder if they are actually happening in the same plane as the rest of the film, set in Frnancos spain, which acts as a brilliant contrast and counterpoint. everyone should see this film.
5
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind 2004,  R)
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind
I loved this, it's refreshing to see Jim Carrey play something other than a comedy character.
6
The Science of Sleep 2006,  R)
The Science of Sleep
beautifully sureal.
7
Ne le Dis à Personne (Tell No One) 2006,  Unrated)
Ne le Dis à Personne (Tell No One)
A great mystery film full of twists
