The Bridge on the River Kwai 1957,  PG)
The Bridge on the River Kwai
The classic war film. A masterwork on all elements of film-making.
2
The Deer Hunter 1978,  R)
3
The Thin Red Line 1998,  R)
The Thin Red Line
A cinematic masterpiece that dives deep into the dehumanizing effects war has on soldiers. The film is visually seamless and unforgettably beautiful. Terrence Malick and cinematographer John Toll see beauty in every thing around them. Beautiful writing, outstanding performances, and a sensational score by Hans Zimmer. This is one of the finest war films you will ever see.
4
Dances With Wolves 1990,  PG-13)
Dances With Wolves
There are no words in the English language that can fully describe the greatness of this film or my love for it. Everything you see and hear in this film is done on a grand scale. Films are not made like this one anymore and that's a shame.
5
Schindler's List 1993,  R)
Schindler's List
A highly emotional and intense work of art. Probably the most moving film I have ever seen, it changed my life the first time I saw it because it is so touching, heart breaking, and memorable. Schindler's List is an experience that will stay with you for the rest of your life and the next life.
6
Taxi Driver 1976,  R)
Taxi Driver
Scorsese's classic film noir. Robert De Niro is beautiful, providing one of the most intriguing and convoluted character studies in the history of cinema. One of the finest films of the 70's.
7
Million Dollar Baby 2004,  PG-13)
8
Kill Bill: Volume 1 2003,  R)
Kill Bill: Volume 1
Volume 1 is an action film that has the intelligence and exhilaration that are rare to find in the action genre. Tarantino's film is probably the most appropriate definition for the word "cool". It's brilliantly photographed and the music adds to the adrenaline rush. What sets this film from other action films is the writing, and Tarantino is a master of dialogue. The film is a thrill ride from start to finish.
9
Kill Bill, Volume 2 2004,  R)
Kill Bill, Volume 2
Its better than Volume 1 and that was already sort of a masterpiece.
10

13
Munich 2005,  R)
Munich
Steven Spielberg's Munich is one of the best films he has ever made, which says a lot considering he has made so many great films. There are some scenes that are so shocking and disturbing that I'll hardly ever forget Munich as a whole. The end message is about as insightful as they come.

This is great film making on a grand scale. Its an artistic and technical tour de force. Portrays some of the best battle scenes ever filmed.
26
The Truman Show 1998,  PG)
The Truman Show
It seems unjust the Academy didn't nominate this film for Best Picture. Jim Carrey is superb. The ideas are superb. This is a great film that stirs the mind and entertains throughout.
27
Born on the Fourth of July 1989,  R)
Born on the Fourth of July
I will never stop loving this film. Tears me up every time. Oliver Stone's finest film as a director. Tom Cruise's finest performance as an actor. This is a very special movie.
28
American Beauty 1999,  R)
American Beauty
As the film suggests: "It's hard to stay mad when there's so much beauty in the world. Sometimes I feel like I'm seeing it all at once, and it's too much, my heart fills up like a balloon that's about to burst". Well that is exactly what I felt at times through this film. Perfect aesthetic values create scenes that are too much to handle. A rare film.
29
JFK 1992,  R)
JFK
Oliver Stone's JFK is simply astounding from beginning to end. I don't know how they made this film, the first minutes alone show that painstaking research and devotion were required. The result was a masterpiece. The cinematography, dialogue, music, acting all masterfully done. The performances are some of the best these actors have ever done namely Gary Oldman who is menacing and disturbing. The acting seems a little too real, maybe that is why the whole cast was not nominated for Oscars. The film seeks for the truth and urges us to do the same for whatever cause. JFK is so good, one of the best films of the 90's.
30
Platoon 1986,  R)
Platoon
A gut-wrenching experience. Beautifully made yet unforgettably disturbing.
31
Saving Private Ryan 1998,  R)
Saving Private Ryan
Although people usually associate Saving Private Ryan's greatness with its impeccably crafted battle scenes, I think the film's best moments are in its quieter moments. The Tom Hanks character provides a truly compelling study; he is mysterious, he is conflicted, who's philosophy quickly becomes more complex as the film progresses. Beneath all the graphic violence, there is something undeniably profound about Spielberg's epic war film.
32
Amadeus 1984,  PG)
Amadeus
Brilliantly acted, flawless production design, and most importantly very entertaining. Amadeus is a masterpiece; a film for the ages.
33
The Departed 2006,  R)
The Departed
Incredibly acted and edited. A strange yet satisfying sense of humour in the screenplay. The film is so fast paced the 2.5 hours just fly by you'll see. The Departed is one of Scorsese's best films.
34
No Country for Old Men 2007,  R)
No Country for Old Men
As directors, producers, writers, and editors, the Coen brothers' latest Oscar winning masterpiece once again proves they are masterful filmmakers, natural born filmmakers. You won't be able to take your eyes off this captivating and visually stunning film. Its a thriller that is so great on so many levels.
35
The Green Mile 1999,  R)
The Green Mile
The perfect script, wonderfully acted, beautifully shot, and some of the most powerful feelings you will ever feel are just some of the great qualities you'll notice when you watch The Green Mile. It's an experience you don't want to pass up.

Astonishing, one of the greatest science fiction films ever made. The last 30 minutes are among of the most wondrous moments I've had from watching movies.
42
The Insider 1999,  R)
The Insider
The Insider is not only Michael Mann's finest film to date as a director, the film also acts as a testament to the absurdities of our world. Al Pacino and Russell Crowe are among the greatest living actors and they are in top form here. With exceptional writing and powerhouse performances, The Insider is an electrifying drama and one of the year's best films.
43
Witness 1985,  R)
Witness
Beautifully crafted film filled with very intimate and engaging moments. There is so much more to this film than its main plot; there are so many unexpected themes and knowledge to be gained through Witness. Peter Weir has directed films which I completely love (The Truman Show, Master and Commander) and after seeing Witness, he has become a director whom I look up to. Harrison Ford is at his finest here.
44
3:10 to Yuma 2007,  R)
3:10 to Yuma
Like other stellar action movies such as Raiders or Terminator 2, 3:10 To Yuma is a film you cannot get bored of. The action scenes are stunning and the performances by Crowe and Bale are some of their best work. Its a thrill ride from beginning to end and its one of the year's best films.

47
The Last Samurai 2003,  R)
The Last Samurai
A voluptuous looking and sounding film. Just seeing it for its visual beauty and outstanding music is worth your time. The film however is much more as it is a wonderful story with intriguing philosophy perspectives within it. The film marks Hans Zimmer's 100th score and as usual, its utterly sensational. Its easy to notice that every scene flourishes with the love from its creators.
48
Days of Heaven 1978,  PG)
Days of Heaven
A visual masterpiece, a natural beauty masterpiece. Beautiful simplistic photography, natural lighting, music, just beautiful.
49
The Last Emperor 1987,  PG-13)
The Last Emperor
It has been 2 days since I saw this film for the first time and even at this moment I still can't stop thinking about it. This is the first big budget western film to take us into the real Forbidden City. A lot of hard work went into making this film and my respects goes to Bernando Bertolucci for having the courage to take on such an immense story. The film is magnificent and intriguing throughout. This has to be one of the best looking films ever made. The sets, the costumes, the cinematography, create many scenes that just look and feel perfect. Its a great character study and a great history lesson.
50
The Silence of the Lambs 1991,  R)
The Silence of the Lambs
An intelligent screenplay, terrific cinematography and the masterful performances from Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins combine to create one of the most compelling relationships I've ever seen in a movie.
