The Thin Red Line 1998, R)
A cinematic masterpiece that dives deep into the dehumanizing effects war has on soldiers. The film is visually seamless and unforgettably beautiful. Terrence Malick and cinematographer John Toll see beauty in every thing around them. Beautiful writing, outstanding performances, and a sensational score by Hans Zimmer. This is one of the finest war films you will ever see. |

Kill Bill: Volume 1 2003, R)
Volume 1 is an action film that has the intelligence and exhilaration that are rare to find in the action genre. Tarantino's film is probably the most appropriate definition for the word "cool". It's brilliantly photographed and the music adds to the adrenaline rush. What sets this film from other action films is the writing, and Tarantino is a master of dialogue. The film is a thrill ride from start to finish. |

American Beauty 1999, R)
As the film suggests: "It's hard to stay mad when there's so much beauty in the world. Sometimes I feel like I'm seeing it all at once, and it's too much, my heart fills up like a balloon that's about to burst". Well that is exactly what I felt at times through this film. Perfect aesthetic values create scenes that are too much to handle. A rare film. |

JFK 1992, R)
Oliver Stone's JFK is simply astounding from beginning to end. I don't know how they made this film, the first minutes alone show that painstaking research and devotion were required. The result was a masterpiece. The cinematography, dialogue, music, acting all masterfully done. The performances are some of the best these actors have ever done namely Gary Oldman who is menacing and disturbing. The acting seems a little too real, maybe that is why the whole cast was not nominated for Oscars. The film seeks for the truth and urges us to do the same for whatever cause. JFK is so good, one of the best films of the 90's. |

Saving Private Ryan 1998, R)
Although people usually associate Saving Private Ryan's greatness with its impeccably crafted battle scenes, I think the film's best moments are in its quieter moments. The Tom Hanks character provides a truly compelling study; he is mysterious, he is conflicted, who's philosophy quickly becomes more complex as the film progresses. Beneath all the graphic violence, there is something undeniably profound about Spielberg's epic war film. |

No Country for Old Men 2007, R)
As directors, producers, writers, and editors, the Coen brothers' latest Oscar winning masterpiece once again proves they are masterful filmmakers, natural born filmmakers. You won't be able to take your eyes off this captivating and visually stunning film. Its a thriller that is so great on so many levels. |

The Insider 1999, R)
The Insider is not only Michael Mann's finest film to date as a director, the film also acts as a testament to the absurdities of our world. Al Pacino and Russell Crowe are among the greatest living actors and they are in top form here. With exceptional writing and powerhouse performances, The Insider is an electrifying drama and one of the year's best films. |

Witness 1985, R)
Beautifully crafted film filled with very intimate and engaging moments. There is so much more to this film than its main plot; there are so many unexpected themes and knowledge to be gained through Witness. Peter Weir has directed films which I completely love (The Truman Show, Master and Commander) and after seeing Witness, he has become a director whom I look up to. Harrison Ford is at his finest here. |

The Last Samurai 2003, R)
A voluptuous looking and sounding film. Just seeing it for its visual beauty and outstanding music is worth your time. The film however is much more as it is a wonderful story with intriguing philosophy perspectives within it. The film marks Hans Zimmer's 100th score and as usual, its utterly sensational. Its easy to notice that every scene flourishes with the love from its creators. |

Days of Heaven 1978, PG) |

The Last Emperor 1987, PG-13)
It has been 2 days since I saw this film for the first time and even at this moment I still can't stop thinking about it. This is the first big budget western film to take us into the real Forbidden City. A lot of hard work went into making this film and my respects goes to Bernando Bertolucci for having the courage to take on such an immense story. The film is magnificent and intriguing throughout. This has to be one of the best looking films ever made. The sets, the costumes, the cinematography, create many scenes that just look and feel perfect. Its a great character study and a great history lesson. |
