5	300 2007, R) While "Sin City" pioneered the Frank Miller look on the silver screen, it's "300" that is the truest adaptation of Miller and Varley's work. "300" is very loosely based on the events that led up to and happened during the Battle of Thermopylae. In "300" the Spartans are portrayed as heroic and democratic supermen, while in reality they were extremely xenophobic and racist, and were fighting to preserve their culture of slavery and isolationist conservatism. But that doesn't make for likable heroes or an enjoyable film. Which "300" is. If you turn off your brain, and temporarily forget everything you know historically about the battle and simply enjoy these heroic warriors defying staggering odds, and acting with honor and loyalty, "300" is a wonderfully enjoyable film.
