  Cinevolver's Rating My Rating
1
Léon (The Professional) 1994,  R)
Léon (The Professional)
First film that influenced me. The connection between a 12yr. old girl and a veteran hitman make for an film full of drama, action and above all a story of love between both of them. With beautiful cinematography and a raw dialouge, Leon the Professional is my all time favorite film!

My Life to Live (It's My Life) (Vivre sa vie: Film en douze tableaux) 1962,  Unrated)
My Life to Live (It's My Life) (Vivre sa vie: Film en douze tableaux)
Can there be anything more incredible than this. Godard's 4th film is ground breaking with the typical style that characterized the French New Wave, it's a film with passion. Above all, it's how films should be done!
3
Breathless (À bout de souffle) (By a Tether) 1960,  Unrated)
Breathless (À bout de souffle) (By a Tether)
This is what started it all. The French New wave was born. Godard's classy cool cinematic style flows out of the screen with this 1959 flick. The movement gave birth to jump cuts, direct sound recording, improvised dialouge and long takes. Breathless is a cool flick.
4
Irreversible 2002,  Unrated)
Irreversible
No other movie evokes such a irie, uncomfortable feeling. The film stands alone with it's unorthodox camera work and gripping life like scenes, Irreversible will stir something inside of you.
5
True Romance 1993,  R)
True Romance
This film is definitely the reason why I went to film school. It's dialouge is catchy and cool. The cast is memorable. The love story's characters are unforgetable. With it's memoralbe violent gun scences and explosive ending, True Romance is just the perfect name for it. A must have for your DVD collection!
6
Amélie (Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain) 2001,  R)
Amélie (Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain)
A Masterpiece! The French do it better, Jean-Pierre Jeunet's film makes you feel a sense of warmness and makes you fall for Audrey Tautou's quirky character. A unique and simple film. I can watch this film on any Friday night.

Le Mépris (Contempt) 1963,  PG)
Le Mépris (Contempt)
Viva GODARD! What an incredible picture. Without a doubt one of the best works in film history. Nobody uses the frame like Godard! Saw this movie and realized I didn't comment on it before. In"Le Mepris" (Contempt) Godard unites Michel Piccoli as a playwrite working on film version of the "Odessy" Fritz Lang himself does a cameo appereance as the film's director! (so cool) Jack Palance plays a crazy and arogant American producer chasing the beautiful Brigitte Bardot who stars as Piccoli's wife. Bardot is in search for love as a result of an action done by Piccoli. The film captures the honest tone and emotion in relationships and the script is so incredibly honest. It ties so well with Godard's long takes. Together with the beautiful scenery, Contempt (Le Mepris) is a film that should be admired on every scale and worshiped for it's pure beauty and simplicity. Contempt reveals what annoys Godard about Hollywood.
FAVORITE SCENE: Bardot in bed asking her husband if she admires her toes, ankles, thighs, breats...etc etc, As this takes place the film's color changes as if to insinuate a mood, a feeling.

Polanski's first film. Enough said....
13
Straw Dogs 1971,  R)
Straw Dogs
A film we can all relate to in some way or another. Straw Dogs is a film that builds, a film that gets the attention and lurks under your skin. The expolsive ending is extremely violent and but makes it a justifiable vilolence. A controversial flick. I put it in the same category with "Irreversible".

Bande à part (Band of Outsiders) 1964,  Unrated)
Bande à part (Band of Outsiders)
Incredible flick! Godard surprises me and his films get better every time. "Band of Outsiders" is a youthful, crime drama with some comical scenes where anything can happen. The camera work, as always in Godard films is amaizing. Anna Karina's performance is incredible. You can see where Tarantino borrowed from this film quite clearly and applied it to his films. I love how these two crooks live their lives as young carefree gansters in 1960's Paris while they prey on the naive Anna Karina convincing her to ron her own house. Has to be one of my favorite Godard films, along with "Contempt", "Breathless", and "My life to live". This is a must watch for Cinema lovers. Godard breaks the rules of cinema but they seem so right and work just fine. The dance sequence at the cafe was classic and a great movie moment. This is a great film to watch and own over and over again. Viva Godard!
FAVORITE SCENE: The dance sequence, a good spontaneous part in the movie.
24
Ran 1985,  R)
25
Koroshiya 1 (Ichi the Killer) 2001,  R)
26
Rosario Tijeras 2005,  R)
Rosario Tijeras
Throw in a sexy female assasin, a gang of sicario's on dirt bikes, 1989 Medellin, Colombia as the backdrop and you got "Rosario Tijeras" a dramatic film based during a time where it was a Colombia that everyone knew and struggled to understand. A time where Pablo Escobar controlled the town, a time where teenagers are paid in pocket money for every cop killed. Rosario works for a drug dealer and is conflicted with the love she never got and the next drug dealer she must eliminate. Introduced in her life is a young man unfamilair with this life style as they are both caught up in a love triangle with violent conclusions. I really love the "movie moments" this film has. The taking out of the dead for a "last night" on the town, the beautiful bike ride on the bridge. This film has great cinematography and captures Medellin well. A film not to miss and a movie that is not afraid to be honest.
