a little choppy at times, but also very good editing b/t real clips & the movie. if you like joy division, new order &/or the happy mondays, you will LOVE this movie!
i forgot just how funny this movie is--beautiful music--tom hulce is incredible...if you remember nothing else from this film, you will remember the deathbed composing scene
"A movie about a perverted man...I hated it" were the comments I heard when I worked at [insert mammoth video store company name here]. I told them to watch it again. Or not. They obviously didn't get it. A beautiful story of what's behind suburban doors without any cliches. Annette Bening is stunning when she yells...all the characters, even minor ones, have so much depth. Look for Alison Janey (West Wing) as a depressed mother--not a big part, but she is wonderful.
The first time you watch it you might think...I don't know -- kind of cheesy. Believe me, watch it again. And sad to say, with the subtitles--sometimes the best jokes get a little lost with the gritty Irish accents. Wonderful flick--if you like Pulp Fiction, Lock Stock & Two Smokin' Barrels or Snatch, you'll love this movie. It never gets old.
How can you not love this movie? Audrey Hepburn as the free-spirited, confused Holly Golightly. By the way, Truman Capote wrote the short story and I highly recommend it.
i just love this movie. plain and simple. don't read the synopsis on the back of the box, b/c it dosn't describe the gem that is inside. look for robin williams as a bitter grocery store clerk. a little dated (early 90s cell phones) but still great
i cannot tell you how much i love this film. another kubrick masterpiece. he took two years to film this film, which i'm convinced added to the end of tom & nicole. if you were bored of this flm the first time, please watch it again keeping in mind the crazy things we do & think when confronted with jealousy. by the way, i think it is the only film in which the very last word is "f__k"
Star Trek fans, Will and Grace fans and movie buffs will love this film. A cross between The Player and Swingers, starring William Shatner playing himself. We are introduced to Bill looking at porn in a used bookstore. No kidding. A film about trying to make it in LA and falling in love after 30.
Along with Clockwork Orange this has been on my top ten list for well over a decade. Truly stands the test of time. There's one or two cheesy things (like Harold doing a Tarzan yell), but overall a beautiful love story. Mentioned in "There's Something About Mary" as Mary's favorite love story.
a brilliant, brilliant film! steve carell is great...but so is everyone in it. the writing is honest, the family's dysfunctions believable & the unsaid commentary on beauty contests beautifully just. there were so many places this movie could have gotten too silly or could have copped out--and it didn't. a stunning, wonderful film.
a stunning film...only the spanish could have pulled this off. a dark, dark fairy tale against a dark time in spain. mere words cannot describe how beautiful, hopeful, imaginative and sad this movie is. not only a study of a child's imagination and resiliance, but of resiliance during wartime in general. a brilliant film. please try to see in the theatre!
Again, an amazing film that must be watched multiple times. If you haven't seen it you must be young or living under a rock. It's probably the tamest Tarantino flick, er, except for the "gimp" scene..
one of the most amazing movies--great music, amazing alternate endings to lola's situation. this one truly had to be seen on the big screen to be appreciated. not since "the wall" did a "musical" movie affect me so much. there is plenty of dialogue, plot and characters, but there is also great music and animation. a wonderful german film. can;'t say enough good stuff about it.
this is such a beautiful, amazing conclusion to the wonderful "firefly" series; even if you haven't seen "firefly" & you like sci-fi, you'll appreciate this film. but do yourself a favor--just borrow or rent all the episodes of "firefly" & then watch "serenity"--we did that over a balmy memorial day w/e & it was so great.
An unknown Audrey Hepburn & Albert Finney gem, showcasing a couple's 25 years together through road trips...if you get this on DVD for V-Day your sweetheart will thank you.
