My Favorite Movies
I guess I have alot of other favorites but these are some (or the ones that pop in my head when I read "My Favorite Movies"). Each contributed something for me to cherish for a long time: characters, visuals, story line, elements, mood, setting, meaning, originality, omg-moments, clever twists, and originality.

Signs 2002, PG-13)
One of Shyamalan's best! It's one of the best if-this-happens movies! I remember the first time I saw it, I was a beginner at watching scary films. But when I first saw the alien on the TV, the hair on the back of my neck stood up, I became so terrified I could hear my heartbeat ! But near the end, I got over my fear, but I still couldn't sleep that night! lol. Really inspiring (the whole coincidence vs miracle theme). Abigail Breslin was so adorable and Rory Culkin makes an asthma attack look cute. Mel Gibson and Joaquin Pheonix were great as brothers! |

Taste of Tea, The (Cha No Aji) 2011, Unrated)
Out of all the new released movies on the racks in Potomac Video, this movie was the only one that caught my eye and the only one I actually picked up to read the back summary. It's brilliant! It may be a little slow paced for impatient viewers but I didn't mind at at. I loved the Harunos. Ayano and Grandpa were hilarious. Sachiko was so adorable. Very nicely done. Perfect music. Absolutely loved it. |

Chakushin Ari (One Missed Call) 2004, R)
Whoohoo this movie is pretty scary, especially at the second half of the film (starting at the "exorcism"). Plenty of o-sugar-honey-ice-tea moments. The story was very confusing though, I wished Miike made the plot more easier to understand. Kou Shibasaki was great as Yumi (also in Battle Royale, she made a perfect antagonist). The ringtone? Unforgettable and creepy. Much more better than the remake ringtone! |

El Orfanato (The Orphanage) 2007, R)
I loved this movie! It's really terrifying. I loved how the director created such a horrifying mood in the story. Great suspense. Plenty of jumpy scenes. The story was very clever and well told. I was hoping there would be English dubbing, but I was ok with the Spanish dub and English subtitles. I loved the symbolism, the games, and setting (the house was creepy). The acting was very believable and Oscar-worthy (especially the amazing Belen Rueda). It kept me at the edge of my seat- I mean couch- the entire time. I was screaming near the end. The ending? You just got to see for yourself! |

one of the best REALISTIC vampire movies ever made EVAHH! Josh was cool w/ the axe. Danny Huston made a great vampire leader. i was happy to see an ASIAN vampire, i have never seen one in other vamp movies. i couldn't believe Ben Foster, the birdman in xmen3, was the insane lunatic. i admired the survival instincs/tactics of the survivors. those vampies are freakin smart! |

Forrest Gump 1994, PG-13)
"Run Forrest, run!" . "Mama always said life was like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get." . "I love you Jenny." Ah, the most memorable quotes in that movie. I never grew tired of watching it when it gets shown on TV every year. Tom Hank's performance (and voice) is so Oscar-worthy. I loved Bubba. I loved how Forrest overcame almost any obstacle and all the serendipities he encountered in his life, it was such a great journey to watch. Haley Joel Osment was sooo adorable! |

Bella (Beauty) 2006, PG-13)
This was very truly moving. I watched it 2x and still made me tear-eyed 2x. It's got good plot and story telling. The flashforwards/flashbacks made a great effect. The music was beautiful. Eduardo Verástegui and Tammy Blanchard had a great chemistry and acted so well. The little girls were adorable. Nice symbolism and object significance. It had some funny parts to it too. |

Kung Fu Panda 2008, PG)
This movie is AWESOME. It reeks of awesomeness! One of my favorite animated kung-fu movies! Po was hilarious (i could see Jack Black in him) and adorable and pudgy and fun and adorable! I was impressed by the other celebrities who voiced the other characters. I loved the moral and message it had, especially Master Oogway's (the turle sage) quote. The storyline is great, the animation is amazing, and the kung-fu action was cool. GET READY TO FEEL THE THUNDA!!! |

Them (Ils) 2006, R)
This supposedly foreign (french) movie has blown me away, just like the Spanish ghost movie The Orphange. The surprise elements were amazing. The filmakers made ordinary noises sound so terrifying! The acting was impressive, especially from Olivia Bonamy. The effects were great. But what scared the heck outta me and disturbed me so much was who THEM turned out to be in the end! Definetely a must-see! |

The Eye 3 2005, PG-13)
i thought this was titled The Eye 10 Infinity. but man was this movie FUNNY. this movie is more of a parody but i liked how it made a reference to the previous Eyes. but anyways it was hilarious! yet there were some jumpy scenes especially in the part when the characters were tapping their bowls with chopsticks and all these ghosts started appearing to them (one of my fav scenes). |

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (Toki wo kakeru shojo) 2006, Unrated)
This movie is AMAZING. The animation was breathetaking! The background noises sound so realistic! I love Chiaki! he's hilarious! and lovable! The climax had me grabbing the computer screen. The ending had me crying...it made me wanna bawl out loud like Makoto. But i did wished they showed what happens in her future. one of my favorite animated films. i could watch it over and over again. such a memorable, romantic, funny, and visually stunning film that will have you thinking about the ending for days. (^.^) |

Millennium Actress (Sennen joyû) 2001, PG)
Another great animated movie. reminds me of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time but more mature. The ending was so heartbreaking. The visuals were outstanding. such an original story. i couldn't quite put it together when i first watched it but after a second viewing, i started to understand the blending of Chiyoko's past, acting, and present. so cool. one of my faves. |

Byôsoku 5 senchimêtoru (5 Centimeters per Second) (A Chain of Short Stories about Their Distance) 2008, Unrated)
One of the best animated films I have ever seen. On par with Hayao Miyazaki. Kinda reminded me of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time but much more heartbreaking. I still haven't recovered after watching this film and you'll see why after you watch it. Beautiful animation, landscapes, and characters. Nicely told story, poetic. Very realistic. Very memorable. Also, the theme song fits the movie perfectly (One More Time, One More Chance by Yamazaki Masayoshi). One of those films that stays in your mind for days. |

Noroi the Curse 2005, Unrated)
waaayyy scarier than Blair Witch. the plot is pretty easy to follow despite a sort of confusing ending. great build-up with clues leading to a climax. i liked how they stick in different video footages with the subtitles. the performances were remarkable, especially by Mr. Nori, a very interesting character. even the music and supernatural noises adds to the creepy atmosphere and the sudden blackouts. i was pretty disturbed by some scenes, they were so terrifying! the end was a memorable finish, it was the ultimate shocker, so freaking scary. it sent shivers down my spine. this movie definitely left a strong impression on me. its creepy style is one that gives not just terror but also dread, like ur heart just drops. its quite realistic. |
