Spaceballs
Hello my Darlin, Hello my Baby, Hello my ragtime galll....

I can't believe there are people out there that don't like this movie! So many funny lines, this was the quotable movie for years and still is! I feel you can rate some movies, especially comedies by the lines you remember and use on your friends for laughs, kinda like (for you younger kids) Anchorman: Ron Burgundy.

Another thing, spoof movies these days all are horrible. Very little thought goes into them and are not even close to funny. This spoof movie follows Mel Brook's proven line of comedy. Great movie. Favortie! If you haven't seen it, give it a try.

Also only second know/verified tears shed by myself in a movie. Poor old Pizza the Hutt ate himself to death...He was delicious.
6
Big Jake 1971,  PG-13)
Big Jake
Who are you?
Jake: Jacob McCandles.
John Fain: I thought you were dead.
Jake: Not hardly.

This movie has John Wayne as Big Jake McCandles who has left his family on his mega ranch years ago to go screw around out west. Some bandits from south of the border attack his household and kidnap his grandson for a $1 Million ransom. Well here come Grandpa to save the day (with the help of his older sons who are more than a little reluctant to listen to him) and do whatever he has to get Little Jake back.

There are plenty of funny lines and famous Duke lines in this one. Recommended Highly!

I think this is my favorite John Wayne movie. They are all good but this one is the best for me. Unlike most of you people on this site, I grew up with one TV with 13 channels (and that was with cable!). I think that upped to 45 or so by the time I went to college. and then I just couldn't afford it. The point is, everytime a John Wayne movie was on, we watched it.
We didn't grow up watching these serial rape/torture/murder movies like Saw, Hostel, etc. John Wayne and similar movies were it. The thing you got out of his movies were not only the action and wars and gunfights, but also had family values, pride in your country, sticking up for yourself and those not able to help themselves, doing things right, and basically just not putting up with anyone's shit.Yes, it was more black and white and there was always a clearly defined bad guy, but there wasn't always a perfect resolution.

If you haven't seen this and you like Sci-Fi, you are really missing out. Also see the TV series Firefly!! I Am Legend 2007,  PG-13)
I Am Legend
One of the best movies I have seen this year. I was really surprised because almost every movie I have seen that has been modified from the book as turned out piss poor. While not following the Richard Matheson book in any way besides the basic premise of The doctor with the cure as the last man.

Will Smith always comes through.
37
I, Robot 2004,  PG-13)
I, Robot
Story of a robot with a soul. I was impressed with this movie. Still haven't watched a movie with Will Smith where he doesn't give his role his best effort. I liked him here with Tom Brady's Baby Mama. I don't know how well it follows Isaac Asminov's book, but it makes me want to check it out! CGI and Special Effects are a large part of this futuristic movie and seem to be flawlessly adapted to the live action.

I saw this on friends profile and couldn't believe I didn't have it on my favorites list. I think I saw this for the first time maybe when I was 10 or 11...with my Mom. I remember at the mens laundry scene where the Sex in the City chick is getting it with a jock strap stuffed in her mouth to try and stop the howling. I asked my Mom, "Why is she howling? What's with the jock? Doesn't that smell? Can't he shut her up?" She wished she was the guy hiding behind the mat in the gym she was laughing so hard...anyway, I's all growed up now and can still laugh my butt off through this movie. Scene in the principals office is priceless.

Excellent movie. After all these years and even as a geezer, Clint Eastwood has still got it. Can't believe he was snubbed for any Oscar nominations. Enjoyed this movie immensely. The Breakfast Club
Definitely a favorite movie - this may have been the most watched and quoted movie of the 80's. So many funny parts. My 18 YO sister got me into this movie when I was 10 and it certainly made an impression on me. Didn't know what the whole "taping the butt cheeks together" thing was all about. Or why it would hurt...or how Ally Sheedy made it snow by shaking out her hair. Loved Paul Gleason as the hard ass teacher that seemed to be a real dick. As I get older I find myself saying/noticing punk ass kids a lot! Hard to believe I am actually sympathetic to the character now. I think I am going to start using the

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Believe me, there are not many bigger fans of Indy than myself. I thought this movie was very, very good. Just not quite as good as the first three. Follows the same action plan as the originals. You will not be disappointed! Probably the only movie I have seen since the Lord of the Rings that I would pay to watch twice.
45
Watchmen 2009,  R)
Watchmen
Zach Snyder has made another movie I can add to my favorites; boobs, blood, etc...except for some blue...well more on that later...Movie is extremly graphic and dark, bloody and gory - More like Sin City than the 300. Do not be like the jackass that sat in front of us & bring your 5 year old into this movie to witness rape and murder scenes.

Movie is based on the grapic novels The Watchmen, obviously. Basically a story of a alternate timeline split beginning around the time of WWII through flashbacks, through JFK and the Vietnam war through the present time in the movie of the mid 80's where Tricky Dick Nixon is in his 6th term as Benevelent Dictator...er President. The first half hour chronicles the past 40 years of war & politics detailing the rise and fall of the superheroes. The cold war with Russia has reached full strength and nuclear war is imminant. The decline of morality in America is continuing unchecked and there are no heroes.

This movie is full of moral quandaries followed from several differnent points of view characterized by each of the Watchmen. Is the Greater Good more important than the individual? 1 life for a 100? Is it better for the truth to be witheld to maintain a peace that is based on falsehood? This is a long movie and there is a lot of stuff that I feel I missed the first time through. Will definitely add this to my movie collection when it comes out.

Negatives: I could have done without a giant glowing blue penis floating around the screen in every Dr. Manhatten screen. I keep expecting him to shake his hips and yell WHOO-WHOO to Malin Akerman. I thought Dr. Blueballs was going to trick the Owl into coming around the corner and look at his batwing, kick him in the ass 3 times and call him a fag. I am sure he already made the Owl feel inadequate sleeping with the ex. Well baby, It may not be Big, blue, radioactive, and 12inches...but we can do it 3 times and hook a car battery to my nipples to make it up! If Zach Snyder would have switched the total amount of male frontal nudity with Malin Akerman nudity, I would have appreciated it greatly and given this baby 5 stars!

I had to come back and revise this review. I got distracted with blucock jokes.

I failed to mention that the soundtrack to this movie was fantastic. Probably the only one I felt I needed to buy since watching Forrest Gump. And I loved the casting and the character acting of the Comedian & Rorschach (They pulled of his mask and I thought it was Danny Bonaduce!). Rorschach has as many one liners and interesting traits that makes me put his performance on a level with Heath Ledger's Joker. In Essance, Rorschach is Batman and the Joker combined. I am changing my rating to 5 stars, Blucockbedamned!
46
Happy Gilmore 1996,  PG-13)
Happy Gilmore
Now you're gonna get it Bobbie! Absolutely hilarious. Sandler takes the strange concept of a everyday guy that tried to stab people with his hockey skates and turns Happy's unusual hockey swing power and translates it into a golf swing resulting in 450 yard drives (That's pretty far!). Mentored by a one handed Apollo Creed and opposed by SuperDouche Shooter McGavin, Happy joins the pro tour and treats the golf course as his own personal hockey rink - showing up on sportscenter ranting and swearing bleeping bag of monkey bleep!. All of Sandlers croneys show up in bit parts to round out the comedy. O'Doyal Rules!
47
The Incredibles 2004,  PG)
The Incredibles
What is there not to like about this movie? Features the talents of Craig T. Nelson and Samuel L. Jackson (I believe the only movie he has been in where he doesn't swear). This cartoon combines action and comedy to make a movie suitable for the whole family & is the best pixar film to date. Fun movie for everyone.
48
Saving Private Ryan 1998,  R)
Saving Private Ryan
I hadn't watched this in quite a while and had forgotten what a powerful movie this is. Absoultely fantastic cast although the characters they portray are a little far fetched as just about every ethnic background is included here.

Several memorable lines in here including "We're not here to do the decent thing - we're here to follow fucking orders." Which is the basis for the whole movie from the epic beginning at D-Day (which may be the most authentic and edge of the seat scenes ever made) storming the beach and what American soldiers faced rushing out into the face of machine gun fire. Following their orders to put their 8 lives on the line to save one private somewhere in France. This is one of those rare movies that still pulls you in and entrances you after several viewings.

The Transformers - The Movie 1986,  PG)
The Transformers - The Movie
Are you kidding me! Best cartoon of all time...when I was a kid.
This began it all boys and girls. The vocal talents on this are amazing...well except Judd Nelson, but he was still high on the Breakfast Club fame. This cartoon was made back when they still had to draw the frames. This cartoon movie was unusual because there was a little swearing in it and they actually killed off several autobots. Has a more serious tone and less of a cartoon feel, again voice acting is terrific. Still up there on my favorites. the sound track is still decent and even incorporates Wierd Al in there! Vocal talants of Orson Wells, Spock, Eric Idle, and Rober Stack. Also has the same guy doing Optimus Prime as from the live action movie. Can't recommend this movie enough.

Big Trouble in Little China 1986,  PG-13)
Big Trouble in Little China
Everybody relax. I'm here. Sonofabitch Must Pay! This movie is so loaded with one liners...one of my favorite movies and my favorite Kurt Russel movie. Floating kung fu bad guys, Raiden like guys riding bolts of lightning down from the sky to fight Jack Burton and the Pork Chop Express! 10,000 year old giggling chinese dude wants the green eyed chickies to be his mate and return him to youth. Its up to Jack and Wang, (Or something like that) and Egg Chen, along with a whole slew of smart-ass comments to go to the rescue Wang's chick and Gracie Law (a young Kim Cattral). With Wangs, wongs, and Eggs hanging out everywhere, with this movie you can't go wrong.

The Evil Lo-Pan the immortal Wizared is also, so far as I know, the only wizard ever to utter the immortal words, "Now this really pisses me off to no end."

You know what Ol' Jack Burton says in a time like this? Watch this movie!
51
Star Trek 2009,  PG-13)
Star Trek
There are very few movies that gave me goose bumps watching the preview. This is one of them and watching the movie last night, did not disappoint!

This movie is nothing other than a total revamping of the Star Trek franchise. Using time travel to cause a split in the timeline at the time of Kirk's birth, J.J. Abrams reinvents the backstories of Kirk, Spock, and the rest of the crew (Fans will realize this within the first 10 minutes of the movie). Time travel is really nothing new as it was featured in several episodes and movies (Remember Spock and the whales?). Best thing about using time travel in your plot? You can make up up whatever the hell you want. And really that's what he did. Plenty of holes in the story line, but what movie isn't and this movie is totally enjoyable.

Casting Grade: Pretty Damn Good

I thought Chris Pine made just as good a Kirk as the Original. Karl Urban had the mannerisms of the character down pat, just seemed a little tall/big to be McCoy, he was convincing though. I liked the MILF guy from American Pie Cho as Sulu and whatever the little guys name was for Chekov. Zoe Saldeana was WAY too hot to be Uhura, but she was OK. My favorite character was Simon Pegg and was pissed he only in the movie maybe 5 minutes of screen time.

I have started disliking Heroes and Sylar so much I was kind of biased against him, but he seems to portray the alternate reality Spock pretty well. Way too much emotion for the Spock I know.

There were many funny parts, most revolving around Simon Pegg as Beam me up Scottie or interplay between McCoy and Kirk. You can still expect to hear every character's series catch phrase in one form or the other. Oh, and the first real action scene on the Enterprise where Kirk, Sulu, and Ensign JimBob head out on the shuttle craft, anyone here not know what was coming next?

Wouldn't be surprised to see another series pop up following this line. A few more movies for sure.
52
The Princess Bride 1987,  PG)
The Princess Bride
Giants, Pirates, Master Swordsmen, Princesses, princes, Rodents of Unusual Size, Six Fingered men, treachery, True Love, and even Billy Crystal. Very entertaining movie. One of my favorites.

had to go back and rewrite this as last week was at a meeting in Pittsburgh to discuss estimating. Prior to the meeting, There was an unusually short, balding man that was sitting on the edge of the table and leaning in and conversing with another guy. I SWEAR this was the jist of the conversation:
Guy in Meeting: So...you guys made the decision then?
Short Guy: Not remotely. Because He comes from Australia, as everyone knows, and Australia was entirely peopled with criminals, and now Austalia has those strict gun contol laws. So clearly our estimating program is much better than theirs.
Other guy: You think the guys here are smarter
Short guy: Ha! I know the guys here are smarter! Everyone knows you never bet against a Sicilian! Especially when death is on the line!
Other guy: You are trying to trick me to speak against Australians, it won't work.
Short Guy: IT HAS WORKED! YOU'VE GIVEN EVERYTHING AWAY! I KNOW IT!

So he walks out and I look around and say "INCONCEIVABLE!!". Everyone died laughing!...Well one guy about my age laughed a little. I explained....Vizzini???....from the Princess Bride?...That guy was perfect!...Silence... I thought it was funny though. No appreciation...

Men in Black
Inconsiderate Prick! Don't you know how much that stings??
54
Law Abiding Citizen 2009,  R)
Law Abiding Citizen
My kind of movie. Beginning pissed me off enough that I felt ill enough that I stopped eating popcorn for 15 minutes. Only other time I felt like that in a movie was watching Braveheart when Mel Gibson's wife gets her throat cut. That feeling of rage and helplessness sets the tone for this mans quest for vengence and justice. Gerard Butler continues to shine in whatever role he plays. Here he gets the character spot on, balanced by Jamie Foxx who also plays a great role.

The movie does bring into focus our current legal system and some of the tricks/tactics lawyers use to find flaws and exploit them . Interesting to see some of the moral dilemmas brought to the forefront as Butlers character forces everyone to rethink their postions and reflect on if the right decisions were made. People will have different feelings for all parts of this movie. Personally, I think I can sum it up as: Sonofabitch Must Pay!

I really enjoyed this movie until the end where they threw whole premise out the window on an unlikely mistake made by G. Butlers character.

HA - Critics gave it 23%??? No wonder I hate critics and the movies they endorse...for the most part.
55
Troy 2004,  R)
Troy
Great movie...well the action and fighting scenes were fantastic. The Cinematography was great. The acting fair, the story ok (very loosely based on the Homer epic the Illiad). Diane Kruger naked...awesome.

Lots of skin and violence as follows the supposed fall of Troy with such Homeric heroes such as Achilles, Paris, Ajax, Hector, Helen, Agamemnon, and Odysseus.

Best part of this movie? Orlando Bloom as the douchebag Paris, who puts his whole nation at risk because he can't keep it in his pants and steals the wife of the brother of the most powerful nation in the known world at the time. Helen becomes the "Face that launched a Thousand Ships"!

Eric Bana as Hector stands out as the best actor in this Hollywood bastardization of The Illiad..
56
Ghostbusters 1984,  PG)
Ghostbusters
Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies. Rivers and seas boiling.
Forty years of darkness. Earthquakes, volcanoes...
The dead rising from the grave.
Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together - mass hysteria.

Classic. The demon dog scenes that seemed so cool 25 years ago did not age well. Just looks like a claymation dog that Gumby could roll. The effects from the proton packs still look cool and this movie did look good in Blu-Ray.

The dialog and the acting of Bill Murray and Rick Moranis especially still makes me laugh. With the cast rounding out with Ramis and Aykroyd. If you still haven't seen this, you are missing one of the all time greats. Had to take advantage of the Black Friday Deals and get this...again.

Lot of rumors about a Ghostubusters 3 going around! Although GB2 was ok, I hope they do much better with this one.
57
Terminator Salvation 2009,  PG-13)
Terminator Salvation
Update: Just watched this again in BlueRay, still thought it was really good but had to bitch about the terminators that can't actually terminate anything. The T-600 and T-800's weigh what, a 1/4 ton? More than Andre the Giant I'm sure. They can pick up and hurl a 200 lb guy 10' across the room so hard that he crushes metal tables (and somehow does't break anything or have internal bleeding) and there have been scenes when they crush metal with their hands yet still find it necessary to throw Batman through seemingly fragile obstacles instead of just giving him a squeeze. Skynet seems to be great at making nigh indestructable robots; FAIL on the programming. I also have a big problem with the use of the radios. It would be suicide to use radios as Skynet would be able to easily triangulate the signal and have a Hunter Killer on top of it in minutes.

Does the theatrical version show Moon almost nude? Well the directors version does...well more of a side view, in fact that was the only thing I noticed that was different. I thought I would have remembered that from the movie.

Wow, I really enjoyed this. Special effects and action scenes were absolutely fantastic. It really was a treat for the eyes and senses. The story line had a few holes based on what was established in the first movies and the Resistance was WAY too well equipped. I was iffy on wether Bale would be a decent John Conner, but he does alright. The main focus and actually the better story was following Marcus (Sam Worthington) and Kyle Reese. The Kate character (BD Howard) was given the preggers and in the kitchen role in this movie and you barely see her which is probably good as she was annoying in 3... Again, Major guns and explosions and gigatic robots blowing stuff to smithereenies! Now I think I will go look at pictures of Moon Bloodgood.

Avatar 2009,  PG-13)
Avatar
For once, I have absolutely nothing to bitch about. I loved this movie from start to finish once my eyes got used to those damn 3-D glasses. Although the story line takes liberties from about 10 different sci-fi novels, it flowed well and worked seemlessly with the CGI or special effects. This will be an academy award winner for that alone.

This is one of those movies you absolutely have to see
59
Alien 1979,  R)
Alien
Now this is a Sci-Fi flick! There is a reason this is still considered one of the best sci-fi movies of all time. With a hot 30 YO Sigourney Weaver in her most famous role of Ripley and Bilbo Baggins as the android Ash, this is more of a science fiction thriller using story, characters, and plot more than special effects to get the desired reactions. Scott uses the technology of the day to make a alien monster and a plot build up that is much scarier than those shown in the recent Alien flicks. Also like the way he represents the crew of the Nostromo as smokers and coffee drinkers. Flying the ship with a smoke in your mouth an a cup of coffee sitting on the control panel. Ahhh those were the days!

True Grit 1969,  G)
True Grit
Young fella, if you're lookin' for trouble I'll accomodate you. Otherwise, leave it alone.

John Wayne masterpiece and Best Actor Oscar award winner in 1969. You have to watch it to understand the perfection Wayne plays the old drunken one-eyed codger Marshal Rooster Cogburn as he helps track down a killer. Helped by a Texas Ranger (Glen Campbell) "Damn that Texan - when you need him, he's dead." and with appearances by a young Robert Duvall and Dennis Hopper. The dialogue in this movie is fantastic led by Waynes Oscar performance.

Fanboys 2007,  PG-13)
Fanboys
This just made my favortie movies list. Abosolutely loved it. Started laughing at the end of the opening scroll and didn't stop all the way through.

If you have watched and loved the real Star Wars Trilogy (for those of you kiddies - those filmed before 2000 before the Jar-Jar Binks and piss-poor Hayden Christianson acting) you will love the one liners, the props...everything! Guaranteed!

The movie follows the 4 semi-slacker guys in their early 20s who can't grow up (or get laid) on their trip accross the country to attempt to hi-jack a copy of The Phantom Menace 6 months before schedule to open. Along the way they run into Lando Calrissian, Darth Maul, and Leia and even get some help from Capt Kirk. One of the funniest fight scenes erupts when they vist Kirks supposed birthplace in Iowa en route, starting a Federation/Klingon/vulcan vs. Star Wars Geek fracas. These guys do things that would have been cool when you were 13 - crashing into the Halloween party as Darth Vader and his stormtrooper. Tricking out your van to resemble the Millennium Falcon cockpit including installing a Hyperdrive.

Oh, Kristen Bell does the Leia dress up at the end.

...and nobody call Han Solo a bitch...ever. No Seriously.

Field of Dreams
Watched this again for the first time in probably 15 years. This movie has still got it, just as magical and emotional as it was 20 years ago. This movie about the fulfillment of dreams will make you feel young again.

Has the perfect mix of comedy and drama (yes I can like a drama if it has baseball in it!). My GF 8 yo son called it the coolest movie he has ever seen.

So few movies these days deserve a 5 star rating. I didn't think Pixar could match the Incredibles, but well, here it is.

Wow - Humphrey Bogart as Philip Marlowe. Bogart may now be my second favorite actor behind John Wayne. I love his moxy and overall smartassedness in this role. Classic marlowe type mystery watching, tons of quotable lines here.

That's the way it is...Kissing is nice...it's alright, I'd like to do more of it.

This is very similar to Deja Vu with Denzel (also a great flick) in the time traveling back to a certain point and trying to prevent or solve a crime.

I was really worried with Joe Johnston directing this movie after the crap that was the Wolfman. I am so glad that didn't stop me from seeing this as I loved it! A great origin story I would put up there with the first Iron Man. As Cap has always been my favorite comic book hero that's saying something!

I was also worried about Chris Evans but he did justice to the role. The WWII costume was fantastic and bringing in Bucky and the Commandos with Dum Dum and the crew was a great addition. Tommy Lee Jones was fantastic with his dry humor as usual and Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull was perfect.

Great story, great acting, script, and special effects! Loved the fight scenes. Wanted to see more of the shield bouncing around and ricocheting around.
