Memoirs of a Geisha 2005, PG-13)
The year is 1936 thru 1944 during the WW2 Japan. The families in remote villages were teased with a chance to sell or trade there young daughters for food, clothing, or luxuries. Geisha are traditional, female Japanese entertainers, whose skills include performing various Japanese arts, such as classical music and dance. Contrary to popular belief, geisha are not prostitutes. This movie was stunningly a beautiful movie to watch as this young girl is forced into this society of geisha, and the stages she goes thru from child to women. The hairstyles, makeup, kimonos, the obi's (where the live), the art, music, dance, and the overall setting of Japan gorgeous! |

The Shia regime in Iran is halfway to winning its undeclared 30-year war with the U.S. which began with the overthrow of the Shah in 1979 by using proxies such as Hezbollah and the Kurds, forging alliances with Russia and China and exploiting the Muslim divide of Shia and Sunni factions. If you like this movie the book is even better! See No Evil by Robert Baer an ex CIA operative. |

Green Street Hooligans 2005, R)
I was talking to a friend at work about Football "the" sport in England, and she asked if I had ever seen this movie. A few weeks later she brought the DVD. . All having to do with loyalty, tradition, and the sense of belonging. Standing your ground, and fight for what you believe in. Firm vs Firm. Totally was at the edge of my seat with this movie. Loved it! I don't have a clue how does Elijah Wood keep his head together with the diverse roles he plays year after year? It came out in 2005, and I can't believe I am just now seeing this movie! I must have had a lot going on in 2005 to miss this one. I'm so glad I have it now! |
