I have a hard time giving a movie 5 stars, but Zombieland is incredible. Woody Harrelson is a fantastic actor. It's not just that he can do everything from serious to kooky to flat out hilarious, like this awesome movie, but he's entertaining. It stands out in every one of his movies. Hell, I even liked him in that massive flop Semi-Pro.
There was a guy sitting a couple of rows behind us who obviously loves to laugh, and was roaring almost all the way through Zombieland. He wasn't the only one. Everyone was laughing out loud, just not as loud as this guy.
Eisenberg, Stone, and Breslin join Harrelson to throw one hilarious scene after another at us. The "rules" always come back around, and are a pretty big part of the movie. It never even started to get old. All perfectly placed. Bill Murray's guest appearance is priceless.
There is plenty of gore and scares. They're standard, and the eeriness is only a small part of Zombieland. Some of the crashes and killings are SO gory and SO well done. Whomever did the effects did a spectacular job. If they would have taken humor out, and made it a straight up horror movie, this would have been a massively disturbing movie.
The characters are so fantastic. These movies are geared to have one or a couple of the main characters die at the end, and I wasn't even half way through with it when I was hoping they would all make it. I didn't want to see any of these guys bite it. They were all so likable.
Ruben Fleisher is a name you're going to hear again, because there is no way he won't get another chance to direct.
To sit in a movie theater and have all the people around you laughing at Zombieland will make it a better movie. Great atmosphere. It's an R rated must see for anyone who wants a good laugh. We were still laughing while we were walking to the car.
Taken started out pretty weak. I was starting to dislike it just for how tacky it was starting out. But then she was taken. Over the phone Liam Neeson gave a speech that is in the previews, but still shook me. That greatly written and spoken one person dialogue got this movie going.
Twist, surprise, twist, surprise... Taken kept going and dragging me farther in. There are very few things I would have improved about Taken. I loved it the way it was.
Heart pounding, nonstop violence, great story, and fantastic dialogue makes Taken a must see for any action fan.
Oh, what a movie. Kick-Ass is an instant favorite of mine, and I'll come out and say that anyone who likes my sense of humor, laughs at my jokes, needs to see this. Twisted. Sick. Violent. Wonderful.
Everything about it was magnificent. The actors were absolutely fantastic. There were high profile, low paid actors, there were recognizable but hard to name actors and, of course, Nicolas Cage. One of the casting agents, Sarah Halley Finn, has cast some magnificent movies, but I'm still amazed at how well Kick-Ass was cast. I can't think of better actors for any single role. Nicolas Cage is very diverse, and seems to have fun while he's doing an incredible job as Big Daddy.
Kick-Ass is a well paced dark comedy that flips a switch seemingly at will. It goes from straight up indie comedy, to brutal, to dark comedy and back and forth and awesome. The story is thorough, and kept me thinking of how a movie would turn out if it was done by people without experience in making traditional film.
Chloe Moretz, Hit Girl, is the best character in Kick-Ass. Hands down. There is a lot of controversy surrounding the film, and it would be so much less if this character didn't exist, or was just toned down, but she's a large part of what makes Kick-Ass work. I'd like to tell the protesters to drop dead, but when you think about it, we need them. In every aspect of life, not just movies. Here we have an 11 year old girl who's using words that most blush when even I say. She also kills more people than most any actor/CGI monster will kill this year. And is good at it, and violent. We need people to keep us in check, and this is pretty much pushing the limits of what I'd have even my daughter do, if I had an 11 year old daughter.
The writer/director, Matthew Vaughn is responsible for a favorite of mine in 2007, Stardust. I hope he gets more work. It's been 3 years between movies, and he's been great so far.
I love Kick-Ass, and have seen it twice so far, and am still going to see it with my wife. I'd say it's a must see, but do know that some people have limits. If you don't, or they're far reaching limits, go see Kick-Ass.
This is one of my favorite movies of 2011. I usually have one strange movie on my list that's way up on my top 10 for some reason. Last year it was Kick-ass. This year it's going to be another couple of unsuspecting heroes. Tucker and Dale may never be considered more than a cult classic, which is where I think it's headed. What it IS, is downright entertaining. That's why it's such a great movie.
Tyler Labine and Alan Tudyk have a wonderful chemistry. They go through so much together in Tucker And Dale Vs Evil and never change their characters roles or personalities. Dale (Labine) is a kind hearted, honest hillbilly, while Tucker (Tudyk) is his comrade. A redneck who thinks he's got it all now that he has a "vacation home," who gets injured a couple of times and seems to think that beer is the hillbilly equivalence of Windex for Greeks. Katrina Bowden is progressing from TV to movies and, given her performance here, will have more opportunities. The rest of the cast did well for what they were asked to do. They're OK.
Tucker And Dale Vs Evil is funny and smartly done. It's the perfect twist on the psycho killer genre. The movie isn't drawn out by any means. It's an 88 minute, moderately paced laughfest. It's simple and stays entertaining all the way through.
Morgan Jurgenson and Eli Craig tested the writing waters and Eli Craig proved successful in his rookie directing debut. I think he was near flawless in transitioning their script to film. The dialogue was funny. Great.
Although Tucker and Dale were the focal point to the movie, they could use more continuity in the other characters and pieces of the story. I think having the two experienced actors in Labine and Tudyk made Tucker and Dale's characters so consistent.
Eli Craig kept to the script and remembered what kind of movie they were making. It was released last year, and will be on DVD at the end of November. I watched it on Apple TV. If you can't find it anywhere, you need to remember the name and rent Tucker and Dale vs Evil as soon as you see it on shelves or Netflix.
