Like I could have given it any other rating but a 5. Evangelion still presents me with confusion, which is why I find it so fascinating. I keep coming back every year to watch the series and the movie and each time I find something new, which either makes things easier to understand or, in some cases, screws up everything I once thought I knew about the series.

In the DVD commentary they refer to it as an ending you could only strike by dealing with the devil. Fans of Neon Genesis Evangelion who complained over the ambiguity of the televised endings were rewarded with a "truer" ending that leaves the viewer shattered as everything in the world returns to dust.
