When Harry Met Sally 1989,  R)
When Harry Met Sally
Meg and Billy make the funniest couple.
Harry: You were going to be a gymnast.
Sally: A journalist.
Harry: Right, that's what I said.

But the best is this, bar none:
Harry to Sally: I love that you get cold when it's 71 degrees out. I love that it takes you an hour and a half to order a sandwich. I love that you get a little crinkle above your nose when you're looking at me like I'm nuts. I love that after I spend the day with you, I can still smell your perfume on my clothes. And I love that you are the last person I want to talk to before I go to sleep at night. And it's not because I'm lonely, and it's not because it's New Year's Eve. I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (Wo hu cang long) 2003,  PG-13)
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (Wo hu cang long)
kick ass martial arts + epic drama/love story = poetry in motion? ang lee rocks!
5
Juno 2007,  PG-13)
Juno
Is this movie witty? funny? brilliant? YES to all that and more. Ellen Page got the role of her lifetime and might not be any luckier next time. But that's ok, because She WAS Juno. No budding actress in mind can be more than perfect for it. She owned the role, and got an Oscar nomination to boot. Loved the soundtrack as well (not only because i dig Belle and Sebastian, but it's definitely icing on the cake).
6
Sense and Sensibility 1995,  PG)
Sense and Sensibility
the perfectly adapted jane austen novel. and who to better write it than the talented emma thompson. one of ang lee's best work too.

As Good As It Gets 1997,  PG-13)
As Good As It Gets
what do you get when you put together a self-contained OC, a tired mom-woman, and a decent gay guy? an exceptional premise for a movie that has good in the title but is indeed Great.
12
My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2002,  PG)
My Big Fat Greek Wedding
this would forever be Nia Vardalos' best work, as a writer and a star. witty and utterly funny. Rita Wilson had great insight for knowing this play would become a great hit in film.
13
City of Angels 1998,  PG-13)
City of Angels
instances when one can forgive an unhappy ending: if the film has an intriguing story line, when the acting is superb, and the soundtrack becomes a classic favorite (Peter Gabriel, Jimi Hendrix, Paula Cole, GooGooDolls, Alanis M! oh my)

18
Forget Paris 1995,  PG-13)
Forget Paris
just love watching this every time it's on cable. never fails to crack me up.
19
The Hours 2002,  PG-13)
The Hours
Probably one of the best adaptations. Loved all three women's acting. I never thought much of Julianne Moore, but here she proves herself. That scene in the bathroom where she tries to hide that she's crying? Brilliant.

What else to say of Meryl but she never disappoints. Nicole Kidman does not only have the best prosthetic nose ever made for a film, but she gets the mood and eerily I sense Virginia Woolf was on the screen, and not dead. Ed Harris, so heart-breaking and fine here. I don't think I'll ever give justice writing about this film. I know I probably am in the minority, who enjoyed this. But I'm weird that way.

Good Will Hunting 1997,  R)

Beaches
The great BFF film.
23
Love Affair 1994,  PG-13)
Love Affair
even if this is based on THE An Affair to Remember, it's still a winner for it's soundtrack and cinematography
24
The Village 2004,  PG-13)
The Village

25
A League of Their Own 1992,  PG)

Dan in Real Life 2007,  PG-13)
Dan in Real Life
Just when you think that big ensemble cast-family movies is a thing of the 90s, Peter Hedges serves us this. This poignant and honest and beautifully-acted and written film. No surprise really for the writing; Hedges gave us the iconic "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" and perfectly adapted Hornby's "About A Boy" a few years ago. This guy should make more films! He's a genius.

Now the actors. This may be Steve Carell's
best here, showcasing both great comic timing and amazing dramatic depth. He thrives in this genre (e.g. Little Miss Sunshine) which makes you forget he's the guy in that movie about old virgins. Because he's a far better dramatic actor. He can do "The Office" forever if he wants to, for our dose of his comic chops. But please no more Evan Almightys.

Juliette Binoche was refreshing. Not in that
temptress-Chocolat-way. She didn't sell her looks here (we see less make up and more wrinkles, yet au naturelle she's truly beautiful). It was an honest take of a middle-aged woman on a crossroads.

And what could go wrong having Dianne Weist on this film as Dan's mother? She's underrated, really. She can make any bad movie bearable with her in it. Thank God this isn't one of those.

Great ensemble cast + brilliant script + lovely OST = a Perfect movie.
