Reign Over Me

This is possibly (probably) the best film I have ever seen. Firstly I should point out that even though Adam Sadler is the star IT ISN'T A COMEDY and based on his performance in this film, he should do more straight roles - he was simply amazing. I felt for him from the first second of him being on screen. The film does still have a few laughs in it, but BEWARE there are far more tears to be had than laughs. At one point I had tears rolling down my cheeks and I was laughing, both at the same time! I don't know much about awards for films, but if this didn't win any, they were robbed. Don Cheadle, Liv Tyler and Adam Sandler make this film special, with a small part for Donald Sutherland at the end - This film is special, and it has touched my soul.

This movie not only has an amazing story, but the artistic value is tremendous. The stark contrast between the black and white scenes versus the color adds so much to the film. I can't remember another movie that I've seen that impressed me so much artistically.
Norton embodies his character so well, as does Furlong. They go beyond characters on a screen to create a relationship between them and the viewer. By the end of the movie it's as if you've known them and been a part of their struggle.
If you've not seen this movie, you should make it a priority.
I recommend seeing it with children old enough to tolerate violence and look beyond it. Talk about the themes of the movie with kids, as, in my opinion, this film was created to spark conversation about the issues of hate, prejudice and defining one's self.
American History X is a reminder to the viewer that; what is popular is not always right, and what is right is not always popular.
