AHHHHHHHHHH!!!! This is without a doubt the best movie I have seen in years...and I just watched it for the first time last night before going to bed at 2am. It is a little piece of movie heaven that make syou wish you were there...in the 50's during the birth of Rock-n-Roll. I can't believe I had never seen this before. It feels like a film that should be a mainstream cult hit! But it's not. AND THAT MAKES IT EVEN COOLER! Tim McIntire is great as Alan Freed and the rest of the cast, especially The Cadillacs and the kid that plays Artie are fabulous. This could be one of the most perfect films made...at least in its genre. The period and look and feel were captured perfectly. I honestly don't think anyone could make a movie like this today. It wouldn't hit the marks that this one did. It would have way too much glass to it and have to hit certain plot points and character shortcomings to have an effect on a modern day audience. When it comes down to it, it would be too formulaic with too much "hit-you-over-the-head drama". And of course, the music was just amazing! Some of the best scenes were when all these different groups wanted to sing for Freed because they weren't known yet. When the groups start singing, you recognize these songs as really big hits and you feel special like you were able to witness the creation of this historic songs and groups. There are some historical blips in the story, but it really doesn't matter. American Hot Wax is by far one of the most entertaining films I have ever seen and should not be missed.

Death Wish 1974,  R)
Death Wish
Charles Bronson, the ultimate vigilante! If you shoot em, and they don't die, shoot em in the back. Gritty as all hell! They don't make em like they used to.

Raiders of the Lost Ark (Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark) 1981,  PG)

The Monster Squad 1987,  PG-13)
The Monster Squad
One of the best cult classics of aall time! Now coming to DVD on 7/24/07 as a 20th Anniversary Edition this needs to be on your "definitely watch" list. Better than "Goonies."

No Country for Old Men 2007,  R)
No Country for Old Men
One of the best modern day thrillers I have ever seen. One of my favorite films of 2007. It's the kind of movie I want to see everytime I go to the theater. Sophisticated, scary, violent, and simple. One of the best villains (Chiguhr) of our time.
8
The Friends of Eddie Coyle 1973,  R)
The Friends of Eddie Coyle
Fantastic! A stunning and gritty crime caper with awesome performances and great suspense. Mitchum has made it into my best actors list since this and Thunder Road. The robbery scenes are directed so well and are kept serious and grim without the clutter of flashy camera angles and hip music. The film has a level of realism that is not normally achieved in movies made today. Yes the movie is slow and brooding, but that is in part what makes it great. Even though there wasn't the level of action I would have liked, I was still intrigue the whole way through. I especially liked Steven Keats' black market gun salesmen character. Like a firecracker. I saw a quote on youtube.com posted on the trailer for this film saying, "This is the film Tarantino wishes he could make." Well, there are many moments I could see Tarantino getting references from. The dialogue was crackly yet not overly witty and the focus on the seedy underworld characters was plush. And after a while, Mitchum really starts to pull at your heart strings. The movie keeps the audience in good hands the whole way through. My only qualm was the ending. I won't even touch on what happens, but I was a little disappointed. But with that said, if you love crime stories, gritty 70's films without all the sleazy exploitative junk, Robert Mitchum, and a great story...you will love "The Friends of Eddie Coyle."

Splendor in the Grass 1961,  Unrated)
Splendor in the Grass
Wow! I imagined that I'd like this movie, but never thought I'd be gaga over it! The film itself, coddled by innocence of the '61 release date is still able to express its feelings and the differences the older and younger generation have about relationships in a way that's funny, awkward, and heartbreaking. The end scene is one of the best and most painful scenes I have watched
10
Kramer vs. Kramer 1979,  PG)
Kramer vs. Kramer
Good drama should make you laugh, cry, feel suspense, and frustration. This pretty much sums up Kramer vs. Kramer. This is one of the best films I have ever seen. The performances are spot on. The little boy does a brilliant job! I loved this movie. The relationship between the father and son is so rich and loving...not to mention very true and delectably funny . The emotion is so real. A marvel of modern American cinema. The ice cream scene and the two breakfast making scenes are inspired genius!

A Bronx Tale
An interesting take on the over done mob story. I realy enjoyed the mobster as the mentor idea and the story of segregation between communities! Some iffy acting here and there, but still solid. Overall, a great film that should not be missed.

Holy crap! I can't believe I never saw this thing before! I really loath sports films, yet this film had very little to do with sports. The writing is brilliant and Stallone is a charm! "Hey Rocky, take her to the zoo." I was laughing throughout the whole film. The film is warm yet gritty and brutally honest with itself. The only thing I didn't like was the immediate ending. A little to abrupt for my taste. But wow. A frikin powerhaus baby!

WOW. WOW. WOW. The design, pacing, and building sense of dread make this film what it is. Slow moving and captivating all the way through. A breath of fresh air in a time where movies have been devoured by CGI and MTV ADD.

Boss Nigger (The Black Bounty Killer)
This movie was fantastic. It had some of the best one liners I've heard in a long time. Top of the line grindhouse/blaxploitation. Humorous and action packed, this film was a great ride. Fred Williamson was a treat. And it was directed by the guy who did Creature from the Black Lagoon! Imagine that?

Terrific action flick with all the fervor of the eighties originals. Sly at about 60 is still doing very well. A must see for action aficionados. Though some scenes might have been a little too violent, the climax is nothing short of amazing.

Really, really great! Definitely one of my favorite musicals if not my favorite! I would love to see the stage performance. And man Depp can sing. All together an intriguing story with great performances. "How about a shave...the closest I ever gave."

Wow! Just wow! A spectacular film full of witty comedy and machine gun crazy dialog. Ellen Page is a gem. And did I mention J.K. Simmons? Wow! This has to be the best comedy I have seen in years. Fresh and heartfelt with a touch of melancholy, just the way I like em.

The Taking of Pelham One Two Three 1974,  R)
The Taking of Pelham One Two Three
The movie kept building tension and tension and tension and as it did I started liking it more and more and more. The stakes kept getting higher, the bad guys got badder, and...did i mention tension? The main title and ending score was brilliant and Robert Shaw is king. Martin Balsam was also really great! And Matthau...need I say more. I loved the angery train operator Donowitz...hilarious. There were a few pacing issues in the beginning of the film that marred it slightly, but overall it was a fun ride. After watching the film I watched the trailer to the remake by Tony Scott...all I have to say is, WTF! A shame.

Let the Right One In 2008,  R)
Let the Right One In
I haven't seen a vampire film quite like this one. What really through me off was how well the film crafted this beautiful and warm love story between two children, shown through care and discovery of one another. The film looks gorgeous and is so simple in its execution yet the characters show such a complex range of emotion. Take both of the above elements and put them in a vampire film with a few scenes of tasteful yet disturbing violence and you have easily one of the most interesting vampire tales since Nosferatu. It's about time someone tried to do something different in the genre, sparing us sexy teen blood drinkers or over done fight sequences. Bravo.

Running Scared 2005,  R)

Changeling 2008,  R)
Changeling
I really liked this film. It just kept pulling you in and unraveling all sorts of unexpected moments. It was one of the few movies where I really enjoyed Angelina Jolie. What a great realized performance! Thew film was beautiful, disturbing, and warm all at the same time. I loved that it dealt with so many different stories that are all relevant to one another. I feel like there was 3 movies within the one which for me was really great and created a truly, grueling movie watching experience. As per the build up to the ending, I felt as though it wrapped itself up just fine. Nothing extravagant, yet appropriate for the film. A dark film overall yet with so many glimpses of hope! See this movie!

Tarantino has brought to us an amazing thriller! Christoph Walz is amazing. Every scene, from the opening to the last is overflowing with tension. QT has re-imagined the war genre. And it is fun! So much fun. By far the best film I have seen in 2009. *standing o*
