Almost Famous
A love poem to the classic rock of the 70's. Obviously a very personal film for Cameron Crowe to make. It's the only film I know that actually transports you to that time and every time I watch it, I don't want to leave that world. Easily one of my favorite films, it gets better with each viewing.

The Jerk 1979,  R)
The Jerk
Steve Martin's funniest film. That's saying a lot.
11
Paper Moon 1973,  PG)
Paper Moon
It's too bad Peter Bogdanovich ruined his career because for a period in the seventies, he was a master. This film is wonderful proof of that. Funny, charming and some of the best black and white photography I've ever seen. A loving tribute to a bygone era. It's impossible not to fall in love with Paper Moon.
12
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind 2004,  R)
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind
Great Script, Great Directing, Great Acting, Great Soundtrack, Great Everything.
13
Once Upon a Time in America 1984,  R)
Once Upon a Time in America
Misunderstood Masterpiece. Sergio Leone's last gift to the world. The directing and the complicated flashback structure will have you in awe.

Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior
The greatest action film ever made and probably the best that will ever be made.

Raising Arizona 1987,  PG-13)
Raising Arizona
So much fun. It's like a live action cartoon with a heart.
16
Boogie Nights 1997,  R)
Boogie Nights
Cinematic Gold. If P.T. Anderson hadn't made Magnolia, this would be in my top 3.
17
Apocalypse Now 1979,  R)
Apocalypse Now
The best film about Vietnam, that has almost nothing to do with Vietnam.
18
Days of Heaven 1978,  PG)
Days of Heaven
The most beautiful film I've ever seen. It's what I call pure cinema. Very little dialogue. This film was told almost entirely through visuals. You never seen skies look like that.
19
Big Wednesday 1978,  PG)
Big Wednesday
The most overlooked film of the 70's. The greatest surfing film ever made, but also one of the best movies about friendship.
20

The Fountain
A deeply emotional film that will shake you to your core. Also one of those rare films that you think about for weeks after you've seen it. Easily my favorite film of 2006.

Empire of the Sun
My favorite Steven Spielberg film. It's so powerful. Christian Bale gave the best child performance ever. Deserves to become a classic.
22

Alien
One of the scariest films ever made. No one emerses you in a world like Ridley Scott.
23
Planes, Trains and Automobiles 1987,  R)
Planes, Trains and Automobiles
Rarely can a movie make you laugh your ass off while breaking your heart at the same time. Planes, Trains and Automobiles is that movie.
24
Weird Science 1985,  PG-13)
Weird Science
I can watch this film anytime. Maybe the most watchable movie I own. So many quotes. I first saw it when I was 10 and I still watch it constantly.
25
Chinatown 1974,  R)
Chinatown
My favorite Noir film. Nicholson is great in it and Roman Polanski directs it perfectly. Robert Townes script should be studied by every future filmmaker, this is how you tell a story. "Forget it Jake, It's Chinatown."
26
The Graduate 1967,  PG)
The Graduate
Anyone who has graduated from college is instantly bonded to this film. This film never comes off as dated. It defies generations. A masterpiece.
27
Fallen Angels 1995,  Unrated)
Fallen Angels
A truly unique film. This film has style to burn. If you are interested in Wong Kar Wai. This is the film to start with.
28
JFK 1992,  R)
JFK
One of my favorite films of the 90's. One of the greatest casts ever assembled. Alot of people have criticized Oliver Stone for putting his own conspiracy theories in the film. But you know what it's a filmmakers medium and he has a compeling argument. That aside it's a film thats great in every aspect. The editing and cinematography have been copied numerous times since it's release but they have yet to be used as effectively as they were in JFK. If you haven't seen this film do yourself a favor and run out and get a copy.
29
Full Metal Jacket 1987,  R)
Full Metal Jacket
First half is better then the second half, but it's still a great film.
30
Natural Born Killers 1994,  R)
Natural Born Killers
A completely visceral movie going experience. Oliver Stone throws every cinematic trick he has into this crazy experiment. And it works. I have yet to see a film as balls to the wall crazy as this one. I love it.
31
Zodiac 2007,  R)
Zodiac
A perfect film. If you didn't know better you would think it was a film made in the 70's. In fact this film could easily fit in with all the great films from the golden age of the 70's. David Fincher can do no wrong. In my mind it is tied with "There Will Be Blood" as the best film of 2007.
32
Big Trouble in Little China 1986,  PG-13)
Big Trouble in Little China
A film that combines every genre of film into a kick as melting pot. Like Jack Burton says The Check is in the Mail.
33
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou 2004,  R)
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
So far my favorite Wes Anderson film.
34
Mulholland Drive 2001,  R)
Mulholland Drive
A great modern noir mind bender.
35
Risky Business 1983,  R)
Risky Business
This is one of my all time favorite films. Out of all the teenage films ever made this one speaks the most truth. It's every teenage boy's dream come true. Sometimes you just have to say...Fuck It!

DePalma out Hitchcock's Hitchcock. Violent, sexy and very suspenseful.
39

It was my favorite movie when I was five. That hasn't really changed.
40
Blue Velvet 1986,  R)
Blue Velvet
One of the best films of the 80's.
41
American Psycho 2000,  R)
American Psycho
Dead on satire of 80's yuppies. A great mixture of horror and comedy.
42
Oldboy 2004,  R)
Oldboy
Proves that even the Korean's can make a masterpiece.
43
My Blueberry Nights 2007,  PG-13)
My Blueberry Nights
Wong Kar Wai finally makes his transition to America. Does it work? Yes it does. Has the look and feel of his other films. I really got wrapped up in the world he created for this film. Kar Wai's warped version of Americana is beautiful. A perfect date movie. And don't listen to what other people say, Norah Jones doesn't ruin this film.
