Closer
clap clap clap clap clap clap
marvellous acting. i found it ironic that "the aquarium" depicts love accurately but was a failed novel, while "closer" also depicted love accurately (the deception, agony, depression blah blah blah) and became a success. the chemistry of the four twind together was epic, so epic that i felt sort of love sick. and no, this is not a good chick flick or anything you would want to watch with someone you really love at the moment. go watch this when you've suffered a major heartbreak, you'll feel your heart shattering all over again. last but not least, damien rice's song is the highlight of this film (the lyrics is actually a summary of what this film is about)

July Rhapsody 2002,  Unrated)

Vanilla Sky 2001,  R)

All About Lily Chou-Chou (Riri Shushu no subete) 2001,  Unrated)
All About Lily Chou-Chou (Riri Shushu no subete)
the film itself is like a poem, with the beautiful music as verses highlighting the scenes and imagery, the dark and mysterious elements crisscrossed between is then made obvious.
6
The Science of Sleep 2006,  R)
The Science of Sleep
it's kind of enchanting, watching your dream come to life and heartbreaking when you see the difference between dreams and reality.
7
Magnolia 1999,  R)
Magnolia
what's not to love about it?
8
The Virgin Suicides 1999,  R)
The Virgin Suicides
so, so mesmerizing to put it in better words, it's as if the film were as mysterious as the lisbon girls
9
Paris Je T'aime 2006,  R)
Paris Je T'aime
lovely. plainly lovely.
the whole idea was so amazing and the way each director interrelated the stories with "i love paris" was superb!
each story delicately described romance and love. not only love for your other half, but also love for your loved ones. the movie never bores you out.

Tony Takitani 2004,  Unrated)

The Matrix 1999,  R)

Thank You For Smoking 2005,  R)
Thank You For Smoking
nothing like i've seen before. the script is so clever and the cast were made for each other, even katie holmes perfectly fits her role as a erm.. whore.
13
The Chorus (Les Choristes) 2004,  PG-13)
The Chorus (Les Choristes)
a beautifully made story.
the choir (not to mention the cute boys) couldn't be more perfect. monsieur mathieu was the sweetest supervisor ever. however i was a bit disappointed when mondain did not killed rachin..
14
The Silence of the Lambs 1991,  R)
15
V for Vendetta 2006,  R)
V for Vendetta
there are some trends that are quite alike to the matrix, unlike the matrix this movie talks much more. when i was watching it i can't help to link it with the french revolution and WWII. firstly, V stated that he decides to destroy the sign of fear created by the government aka the parliament and that was like the fall of Bastille, destruction of tyranny. and the british chancellor of the movie was such a totalitarian figure he almost look like Hitler reborn. overall the movie was cool, the action scenes were matrix-like. however the significance of Evey was not as strong as V, as if the revolution could still go on without her (unless if it means her importance was the pull on the train's lever)
16
Hana to Alice (Hana & Alice) 2004,  Unrated)
Hana to Alice (Hana & Alice)
i like the handheld shots, it makes the film seem more... lively and not as constricting as pan shots (though of course there must be scenes which are captured by a tripod)
nice choice of scenes and angles, overall another amazing film that distinguishes shunji's skill from other renowned directors.

i guess every viewer who have watched this would remember the audition scene where alice dances in paper cups. the music to this scene was great, makes everyone want to dance pirouettes afterwards.
17
Hachimitsu to Clover (Honey & Clover) 2006,  Unrated)
Hachimitsu to Clover (Honey & Clover)
besides taking away all the humor from the original story there's nothing bad about it. the cast was well chosen, the settings matched the manga and the artwork and props were stunning!
18
Love Letter 1995,  PG)
Love Letter
i'm struck again by iwai's brilliancy. the pace was slow but it's sure not boring. the surreal form of love is once again present in such poignant manner. deserves ten star if i could give them.
19
Somewhere in Time 1980,  PG)
Somewhere in Time
so so so so exquisite - the people, the 20s fashion, the scenery, their lines, john barry's immaculate score "there's so much to say, i cannot find the words..."
