The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (Il Buono, il Brutto, il Cattivo.) 1966, R)
In my eyes there's The Good, The Bad & the Ugly & then there's everything else. I have been in love w/ this movie for over 25 years from when I first saw it @ my Uncle's on Thanksgiving on the old crummy VHS pan & scan. When the theme song kicked in I was like 'what the fuck is this?! this is fucking awesome!' Ive lost count how many times I have wathced it since. I used to make girls I dated watch it when we rented movies to see if they had any taste. I would come home from the bar drunk @ 3 in the morning finding it on & watch it until the sun came up. When ever I find it on TV I watch it no matter where it was in the film even though I have copies of my own. Started a cult w/ me Lee Van Cleef & Spaghetti Westerns..The greatest thing since beer in king cans |

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 1974, R)
When I was 12 a video store that we rented from had a booklet (actually a bunch of typewritten pages stapled together) of their movies (even the XXX ones) & I used to make note of all the titles that I wanted to see. One of the first titles that was on this list was The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Being a Friday the 13th fan I was looking for more of the same so when I had told my youth leader this he discouraged me watching TCM because it had very little gore & some parts of the movie were so dark you couldn't see what was going on. He recommended I watch A Nightmare on Elm St..I decided to watch The Terminator. Anyways I will give him credit on a couple of things because when I finally did end up seeing TCM a few years later is there is hardly any gore & there are parts where you couldn't see shit (thank god for DVD so I didn't have to keep trying to find better VHS transfers). I won't give him credit for discouraging me from watching the 2nd greatest horror movies of all time. TCM is the 3 punch movie w/ the tension in the first act w/ the Hitchhiker; the brutality in the 2nd w/ Leatherface & the dark black comedy of the Cook in the 3rd. When they are all combined in the end it's pure insanity |

Slap Shot 1980, R)
I love hockey & this foul mouthed comedy hits all the right notes. Im not sure what I like the best; this, Animal House or Blues Brothers. Everyone in the cast is spot on & really gives that great old school hockey feel (all hail Eddie Shore). Newman is great as the aging bullshit coach/player of the Chiefs but it is the goon crew of the Hansons that steals the show. It makes me long for the days when hockey was a lot more physical mixed w/ its scoring talent (Michael Ontkean sorta reminds me of Mario Lemieux). Just great stuff..one of my favorites for over 25 years. Just avoid the sequels; they're utter shit & have none of the charisma of the original |

Bad Lieutenant 1992, NC-17)
This has to be Harvey Keitel's bravest role. Hell it has to be anyone's bravest role. The Academy should have made a special Oscar for him w/ a cock on it. This flix has a seedy fascination. Keitel is scummy but not as scummy as the pair that end up raping a nun. It's interesting that Ferrara could find characters even more deplorable then Keitel even w/ all his corruption, drug use & asking young girls how they suck cock while he jerks off. In the process he runs up a gambling debt on the World Series of $120 000 that in turn costs him his life. For how much Keitel is a son of a bitch & didn't want to see him meet his ends. He's not an anti-hero but he sure is engrossing |

Scarface 1983, R)
I wasn't fucking allowed to see Scarface when I was a kid because it fucking had the word 'fuck' in it so fucking much. I would fucking ask my mom every fucking week when we rented fucking movies to fucking pick it up so my best fucking friend who watched a bunch of fucking movies w/ me on the fucking weekend could see this great fucking movie. I had originally fucking seen it thanks to my fucking sister but my mom never fucking knew. Every fucking week I would fucking ask for it & every fucking week she would say 'fuck no' until one fucking day it was sitting on the fucking kitchen table. God fucking bless her for finally fucking giving in...The best fucking gangster movie ever fucking made! |

First Blood (Rambo: First Blood) 1982, R)
In 2002 my best friend had brought First Blood over to my house & started my renewed obsession w/ movies. I had forgotten how much I loved this movie even reading the David Morrell book when I was 13. Rambo had sorta gotten a black eye over the years but his first outing was fucking outstanding. Stallone's one man army against that son of a bitch Sheriff Brian Dennehy...and you even get to hear David Caruso cry like a baby |
