It is great to be able to see this film now as Welles first intended it to be, a very complex character study (and also visually dazzling, opening with a gorgeous long tracking shot) about a corrupted man strongly convinced that any means are justifiable to achieve his idea of justice.
The star here is definitely Charles Laughton, who steals the show and makes each one of his lines sound memorable, in a delightfully witty and clever plot by Agatha Christie adapted by Billy Wilder into a near perfect piece of thought-provoking entertainment.

The original theatrical version is surely great, a beautiful homage to cinema, but check out the extended director's cut, a new and quite different experience that gives much more space to the love story, resulting in a much richer and complete narrative. This is certainly one of my favourite films of all time.
I really cannot understand how overlooked and underrated this film is. This is nothing less than an extraordinary masterpiece in its own ways; a fascinating and powerful epic about honor, loyalty, redemption and love, beautifully photographed, greatly acted and so wonderfully scripted.
