A list of Bjarni Gautur's favorite movies. It's incomplete at this moment. I'm always making adjustments and making it better. Feel free to comment.

  Bjarni's Rating My Rating
1
Wheels on Meals (Kuai can che) (Powerman) (Weapon X) 1984,  Unrated)
Wheels on Meals (Kuai can che) (Powerman) (Weapon X)
This is probably the best movie to feature the three Dragons. Not mentioning the jaw dropping fight scenes and stunts, this movie is also one of the funniest films I've seen.
2
The Dirty Dozen 1967,  Unrated)
The Dirty Dozen
A team of murderous bandits are taken from the army jails and put into an elite squad to go on a suicide mission. Two hours of the best character development I have ever seen.
3
The 'Burbs 1989,  PG)
The 'Burbs
Joe Dante might be known more for his work on Gremlins or Small Soldiers. But the 'burbs is his best work. A comedic thriller featuring a lot of great characters, great comedy and some scenes that blend perfectly together.
4
Krull 1983,  PG)
Krull
While Star Wars may have re-made the fantasy sci-fi genre and/or given new breath into it, Krull perfected it. No joke. The story of a prince with his band of men set on the journey to rescue a princess from an evil sorcerer is not a recent tale, but it has never been told in such an awesome manner before Krull. The special effects and creature design are amazing and the character we get introduced are just as enjoyable. Rell the Cyclops is simply one of the coolest characters I have ever seen in a film.
5
A Clockwork Orange 1971,  R)
A Clockwork Orange
Beautiful social commentary on the government, Kubrick shows just how the world will devolve in the future, as well as the world's leaders.
6
The Warriors 1979,  R)
The Warriors
Inspired by the tale of Leonidas and the 300 Spartans who faced off against an Persian army of thousands, the movie sets up what was originally suppose to be a post-apocalyptic Earth but could as well have been the late 70's and any date for that matter, where gangs are overrunning the city. The outfits are amazing, scenes of a group of gangs in their trademarked clothes walking in the subways with a great blend of synth and heavy rock under is perfect eye candy. This movie has a lot of good fights, good action scenes and a lot of suspense. And let's not forget the characters. Kevin Eastman marks this as his favorite film and James Remar's character of Ajax was an inspiration to Raphael's hot temper and not being able to follow the leaders orders. Casey Jones' design also comes from the Baseball Furies.
7
Police Story (Ging chaat goo si) (Police Force) 1985,  PG-13)
Police Story (Ging chaat goo si) (Police Force)
Jackie Chan directs and stars in this action comedy that defined him as an action hero. Still considered to be his best work.
8
The Brave Little Toaster 1987,  G)
The Brave Little Toaster
A touching story about household items who miss their master and try to find him. Beautiful animation, great voice acting and a good look at the material world of the late 1980's. Has some haunting scenes involving characters sacrificing themselves on the journey, a lonely flower, a nightmare scene and some of the most dramatic musical scenes you will find in a kids movie.
9
The Thing 1982,  R)
The Thing
A very well thought out Science Fiction/Horror Thriller. Features some of the best scenes from any Carpenter film. Kurt Russel is amazing as MacReady and the special effects are astounding.
10
Shocker 1989,  R)
Shocker
Shocker features horrifying realistic murders that would remind audiences of recent serial killings that have happened in their own neighborhoods with people like Ted Bundy and the Nighstalker, if it wouldn't pull a 180 in the middle of it and become Nightmare on Elmstreet on crack. With great social commentary on the current state of everyday American life where people go out to the streets to murder and the rest of the people sit at home and watch Television and some crazy special effects, gore and actual scary moments, Shocker is what made Wes Craven a legend in my eyes.
11
Dream a Little Dream 1989,  PG-13)
Dream a Little Dream
A movie about dreams, love and how the 80's ended. One of the many reasons why I love the two Coreys.
12
The Toxic Avenger 1985,  R)
The Toxic Avenger
Pure 80's gold. A story of a monster born out of nuclear waste. But unlike the monsters who pollute nature with their toxins, this monster has a heart of gold, and he won't rest until the evil doers who want to destroy little Tromaville are out of the picture.
13
Rocky 1976,  PG)
Rocky
Sylvester Stallone alongside director John G. Avildsen bring us the greatest underdog story ever told. A money collector dreams of becoming a boxer and by chance, gets a shot at the top.
14
A Nightmare on Elm Street 1984,  R)
A Nightmare on Elm Street
One word can describe this film: Sludge. The way Wes Craven captures both dreams and nightmares and their hypnotic state, such as trying to run away and melting through the floor. The special effects are beyond awesome.
