My Favorite Movies

  BigBabyJesus's Rating My Rating
1
Casablanca 1942,  PG)
Casablanca
A movie that goes against the normal Hollywood tendency towards "happy endings" The ending was proper and satisfying.
2
Smokey and the Bandit 1977,  PG)
Smokey and the Bandit
Of the three, this is the only one worth watching. The other two are mostly a waste of time. This is still funny. "Hang onto your ass, Fred!"
3
Stripes 1981,  R)
Stripes
One of the funniest movies of the 80's. Still funny and Bernstein's score really adds to the hilarity.
4
The Blues Brothers 1980,  R)
The Blues Brothers
Damn near perfect on all counts. The car chase alone is worth the price of admission. And Carrie Fisher was perfectly cast as the spurned girlfriend.
5
Gojira 1954,  Unrated)
Gojira
Much, much better and more cohesive than the American version (which doesn't suck, BTW) and a better morality play to boot. Big monster wiping out a city. What's not to love?
6
Gojira (Godzilla 1985: The Legend Is Reborn) 1984,  PG)
Gojira (Godzilla 1985: The Legend Is Reborn)
Such a great idea. So poorly executed.
7
It's a Wonderful Life 1946,  G)
It's a Wonderful Life
If not my favorite movie, certainly in the discussion. It's a well known movie, and I can't add anything to what has already been said. You either like it or you don't.
8
The Thin Man 1934,  Unrated)
The Thin Man
Underlying the comedy is a nasty murder and a good whodunit. This is a great adaptation of the book by Hammett. Really worth watching. More than once.
9
After the Thin Man 1936,  Unrated)
After the Thin Man
Another quality movie, driven by the chemistry of Powell and Loy. More witty dialog and another mystery solved.
10
Young Frankenstein 1974,  PG)
Young Frankenstein
Easily Mel Brooks crowning achievement. Funny, lovingly done and great knockers!
11
Blazing Saddles 1974,  R)
Blazing Saddles
Brilliantly done and couldn't be made today. Too many jokes and such that the Political Correctness Squad would crucify them for trying. Still, screamingly funny.
12
History of the World -- Part I 1981,  R)
History of the World -- Part I
Too scattered to be truly great. Still, it's good to be the Kind!
13
Field of Dreams 1989,  PG)
Field of Dreams
Watch this movie and lets go have a catch...
14
The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer 1947,  Unrated)
The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer
This has a great cast, and believe it or not, Shirley Temple was well suited to the role she was in. Of course, Myrna Loy is in it...
15
Laura 1944,  Unrated)
Laura
I just love this movie. Tierney shines, but Dana Andrews really makes this film work. Webb is amazing in this. He is so delightfully evil and nasty...
16
The Ghost and Mrs. Muir 1947,  Unrated)
The Ghost and Mrs. Muir
Fantastically romantic. A chick flick before there were such things. Still works because of its timeless setting. Close to Tierney's best role. Except for Laura...
17
Batman Begins 2005,  PG-13)
Batman Begins
Best live action Batman movie ever made.
18
Batman: Mask Of The Phantasm 1993,  PG)
Batman: Mask Of The Phantasm
Terrific animated film. I saw this in a theater and am so glad I did. Great fun.
19
Batman & Mr. Freeze - SubZero 1998,  Unrated)
Batman & Mr. Freeze - SubZero
This one I really liked. Great fun and a solid plot and motivation. It goes a long way to showing that a portion of the Bat Villians are tragic figures.
20
Spider-Man 2002,  PG-13)
Spider-Man
A great adaptation of the Spidey mythos. Keeping the heart and soul of the story even with the changes. McGuire is solid as Peter Parker.
21
Justice League: The New Frontier 2007,  PG-13)
Justice League: The New Frontier
Unbelievably good. Stellar cast, and well developed characters. Good character design and a solid story. What animation can be if done with thought.
22
The Parent Trap 1961,  G)
The Parent Trap
Every person cast in this movie was perfect for their parts. Maureen O'Hara never looked better. A movie that never needed to be remade.
23
The Quiet Man 1952,  Unrated)
The Quiet Man
A great love story and one of Wayne's best performances. Obviously a labor of love for all involved. The fight scene is only upstage by Wayne dragging O'Hara across the county...
24
My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2002,  PG)
My Big Fat Greek Wedding
Funny, and sweet. One I watch every year. Whether I need to or not...
25
Million Dollar Baby 2004,  PG-13)
Million Dollar Baby
What starts out as one sort of story quickly changes into another. Sort of like life. A movie that made me think. I like films like that.
26
Grease 1978,  PG)
Grease
A classic musical, with a fairly thin plot. Like most musicals, but that's what makes them fun...
27
The Dark Knight 2008,  PG-13)
The Dark Knight
Batman is more of a supporting character than the central figure of this movie. Anyone, and I mean anyone who says the Harvey Dent portion of the movie could have been excised and used as the basis for a third Batmovie missed the point. Harvey WAS the story. Harvey represented Gotham, the climb from the muck and the fall back into it. This was Harvey's story, with the wonderful performance by Ledger of The Joker and Bale's Batman merely both sides of, if not the same, a similar coin.

This is quite simply the best comics to film adaptation since Superman. It blows the Spider-Man movies out of the water, and the leavening of the grim with humor (the banter between Bruce Wayne and Alfred was priceless) helped to make it so. What are you waiting for? If you haven't seen it, go! If you've already seen it, go see it again!
28
The Case of the Howling Dog 1934,  Unrated)
The Case of the Howling Dog
not too shabby a movie. It is the best of the Warner Brothers bunch. They slowly get goofier and goofier as they progress. Worth watching when it pops up on TCM. Be nice to have the four Warren William 'Perry Mason' movies in a DVD set.
