The Godfather 1972,  R)
The Godfather
Probably my number one film, attached to Godfather II.
2
The Godfather, Part II 1974,  R)
The Godfather, Part II
Certainly tests the average proffer - "Wasn't as good as the first one." This was at least as good. One of My 45 Perfect Movies. Also loved the re-edit of I & II by Coppola as the Godfather Saga (with previously deleted scend that help tie everything together.
3
Blade Runner 1982,  R)
Blade Runner
A perfect film - wanna argue -- BRING IT ON!
4
Chinatown 1974,  R)
Chinatown
That which modern film making strives toward, at least in the mystery - drama department. On My 45 Perfect Movies list.
5
Saving Private Ryan 1998,  R)
Saving Private Ryan
One of the best films from the past 20 years. Except for the unnecessary opening and ending with the old Vet - pretty damed perfect - I know, it was out of respect for that generation. The first 20 minutes has to be the best WWII battle sequences ever put on film.
6
Citizen Kane 1941,  PG)
Citizen Kane
The only thing to say: practically every frame of every set peice could be a photographic masterpeice. Obviously on MY 45 Perfect Movies list.
7
The Treasure of the Sierra Madre 1948,  Unrated)
The Treasure of the Sierra Madre
Hardy a mis-step in the entire production. The interaction between actors! Just great. Plus a dynamite ending!

A Christmas Story
One of My 35 Perfect Movies.
11
Double Indemnity 1944,  Unrated)
Double Indemnity
One of the best crime dramas from any era. Remade several times in one form or another. Surprisingly, several of those films also hit the mark! But there's nothing to improve on the original. Fantastic dialogue. One of My 45 Perfect Movies.
12
Fargo 1996,  R)
Fargo
Funny, strange, intriguing. Great acting, well written and directed. Lots of surprises. A wonderful film.
13
Bringing Up Baby 1938,  Unrated)
14
Big 1988,  PG)
Big
One of My 45 Perfect Films. Wonderful performances in a special genre of young/old body changes. Hanks is his usual great self plus Frank Longia & Elizbeth Perkins are perfect in their supporting roles.
15
On the Waterfront 1954,  Unrated)
16
Key Largo 1948,  Unrated)
Key Largo
Bogey plays a great anti-hero, who becomes a hero. He was the mold for others to try to follow. And, damn! if Robinson doesn't play one of the meanest guys for any movie. Brutal. Great story, and wonderful set pieces. A fantastic cast in every part. Another of my 45 Perfect Movies.
17
A Streetcar Named Desire 1951,  PG)
A Streetcar Named Desire
Well, really a couldn't miss film. What? After how many Broadway performances? Just a wonderfully moving and sad story.
18
The Wild Bunch 1969,  R)
The Wild Bunch
One of My Favorite 35 Movies. There's nothing wrong in this film - it's perfect.
19
The Man Who Would Be King 1975,  PG)
The Man Who Would Be King
This is what adventure is all about. Go to a strang and distant land...and become king! Yes, that's the ticket!!
20
Raiders of the Lost Ark (Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark) 1981,  PG)
Raiders of the Lost Ark (Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark)
Fantastic entertainment. One of My 45 Perfect Movies.
21
A Fistful of Dollars (Per un Pugno di Dollari) 1964,  R)
A Fistful of Dollars (Per un Pugno di Dollari)
Leone's first film, well the first that anyone noticed in the States. Of course, a BIG THANK YOU to Yojimbo! Practically speaking brought the western out of the dustbin of film history and made it great again. Ah, and the "man with no name" -- aren't we all glad he took the part?
22
For a Few Dollars More (Per Qualche Dollaro in Più) 1965,  R)
For a Few Dollars More (Per Qualche Dollaro in Più)
Better than "Fistful of Dollars" by just a bit. The addition of "Angel Eyes" was an inspiration. Great plot and wonderful settings.
23
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (Il Buono, il Brutto, il Cattivo.) 1966,  R)
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (Il Buono, il Brutto, il Cattivo.)
The reason for the half-star difference is i thought it could have used a bit of editing here and there, especially towards the finale.
24
Kelly's Heroes 1970,  PG)
Kelly's Heroes
A battlefield jaunt, complete with anachronistic characters and oddball humor and lots of action. A WWII fantasy heist movie! Perfect -- EXCEPT for the opening (& closing) theme music!!!! Please, please, don't let that turn you off before the movie really gets going! It was NEVER good music, even when the film was released. Someone just plain, screwed the pooch on that.
25
The Three Musketeers 1973,  PG)
The Three Musketeers
Classy, well acted, entertaining, some of the best sword fighting to be put on film. One of My Perfect Movies, along with the sequel (filmed at the same time).
26
Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope 1977,  PG)
Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope
CHANGED THE MOVIES! There's nothing else to say.
27
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back 1980,  PG)
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back
For pure movie-making, the best of the "first 3".
28
Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi 1983,  PG)
Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi
Continued to CHANGE MOVIE HISTORY.
29
Dr. Strangelove Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb 1964,  PG)
Dr. Strangelove Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb
One of My Perfect Movies.
30
The Four Musketeers 1975,  PG)
The Four Musketeers
Combine this with Lester's prequel and they would still be seamless. Of course they were filmed simultaneously. I cannot imagine any reaso for re-makes after these gems.
31
Alien 1979,  R)
Alien
Along with the sequel, the best "space monlster" movies of the past 30 years. Both are in My 45 Perfect Movie" list.
32
Aliens 1986,  R)
Aliens
See Alien. Suffice to say, in My 45 Perfect Movies.
33
The Cotton Club 1984,  R)
The Cotton Club
Being a jazz fanatic, a fan of gangster films and enamored with Diane Lane since Rumblefish, of course I'm going to love this movie. I know that I'm swimming up-stream against the critics (and many movie buffs) - but it?s a near-perfect film IMHO. The half-star off, is for length. Francis could have edited out at least 10 minutes.
34
Groundhog Day 1993,  PG)
Groundhog Day
Great idea brought to life. One of My Perfect Movies.
35
Black Hawk Down 2001,  R)
Black Hawk Down
Perhaps the greatest war-action films of all time, if you exclude the beginning and end of Saving Pvt. Ryan. One of My Perfect Movies.
36
The Lion King 1994,  G)
The Lion King
I saw this many times as a Dad. After many, many viewings, still liked it.
37
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring 2001,  PG-13)
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
Again, One of the great cinematic achievements.
38
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King 2003,  PG-13)
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
With the others one of the great cinematic achievements.
39
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers 2002,  PG-13)
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
With the others, One of the great cinematic achievements.
40
Network 1976,  R)
Network
Serio-comic scripting at its best. Fantastic performances and much like other films from this general period, even interium events have not caught oup to Paddy's vison! A masterpiece in every way.
41
Little Big Man 1970,  PG)
Little Big Man
Takes the western apart, legend by legend with great humor and pathos. A tour-de-force for Hoffman.
42
The Tragedy of Macbeth (Macbeth) 1971,  R)
The Tragedy of Macbeth (Macbeth)
MacBeth is one of the best entrees into Shakespeare, short of Romeo & Juliet, especially for boys (to men), but for the ladies ? there?s also one of the Bard?s greatest female characters. So, something for everyone ? well, it?s not a comedy, so that?s missing. Wonderful direction by Polanski to make it a "movie"; although he never bends the language so much as to dumb it down; and adding cinematic touches that are almost impossible on even the biggest stage set. Yes, Polanski took a few liberties but anyone who knows anything about Shakespeare knows that liberties are part of his cannon. I don?t think any of his plays were chiseled in marble.
43
Start The Revolution Without Me 1970,  PG)
Start The Revolution Without Me
I don't remember how successful this was when it was released, but among many movie lovers it was the funniest movie to come out in years! A turn on the mistaken identity plot. It's wonderful how everyone can keep a straight face among the supporting roles. Sutherland and Wilder are just...ridiculously funny. The 1/2 star off is for the VERY end. Not up to the quality of the rest of the picture.
44
From Russia With Love 1963,  PG)
From Russia With Love
I like Dr. No. Yet "Russia" has it all for story, villian, action, intrigue and the rest.
45
Apocalypse Now 1979,  R)
Apocalypse Now
I've seen this many times and despite lapses in timing and editing, still one of the best films of its generation. Forget that its not entirely "accurate" historically. In this time that's unimportant compared to the timelessness of the "Heart of Darkness" idea behind its main characters. It's a BIG movie, yet its main people are fleshed out beautifully. A bit too long for its own good, but rent the "second" director's cut anyway. The one with the extra, what? 15 minutes? Where they visit the French plantation. it doesn't make this gem that much longer.
