Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope
THE inspiration for my love of movies. It seems cliche - but this is one of my favorites! And, yes, I can quote a LOT from this movie...

Run Lola Run (Lola rennt)
Frenetic, hypnotic, compelling. A convincing love story.
4
Marie Antoinette 2006,  PG-13)
Marie Antoinette
Yes - I know that Marie Antoinette did not wear Converse sneakers (and the movie is loose and fast with actual historical facts) - but this movie shows that history books don't always tell the story properly - she wasn't as heartless as people think.

Check out the PBS special (or the book) on her for other interesting details... You'd actually be surprised at how faithfully this movie follows events laid out in Antonia Fraser's book (i.e. Marie's original entrance into France). This movie is not just bubblegum. Check out the visual style. I was particularly impressed with the lighting in this movie.

As for the new wave 80's music - I loved it. (I was concerned about it - but the movie is more about mood/feeling rather than historical appropriateness.) You can tell that Sofia Coppola worshipped this music as she was growing up.

Ultimately - this is a film to love or hate. If you have no chance of getting past the fact that she was born into incredible luxury - skip this movie. If you are interested in watching an art movie (with a touch of bubblegum, granted) rather than historical non-fiction - then you might enjoy this.
