American History X 1998,  R)
American History X
This is an extremely powerful and provocative film with some disturbing scenes. Outstanding performances from Edward Norton and Edward Furlong.
2
The Libertine 2004,  R)
The Libertine
A great opening monologue and an extremely strong and compelling performance from Johnny Depp throughout. A must see for any Johnny Depp fan that appreciates him for his talent and not just his ridiculously good looks.
3
Donnie Darko 2001,  R)
Donnie Darko
A strange, intriguing and mesmerising film. I always seem to be in the mood to watch Donnie Darko, which doesn't happen with films very often. The soundtrack is also superb.
4
Scent of a Woman 1992,  R)
Scent of a Woman
A very stunning performance from Pacino to the point where I'm quite happy to forgive the odd cliche. The tango scene is breath taking and the closing scene where Pacino gives his speech is very powerful.
5
The Godfather, Part III 1990,  R)
The Godfather, Part III
A powerful ending to a powerful trilogy. Pacino gives a very evocative perfomance in the closing scenes outside the Opera house.
6
Fight Club 1999,  R)
Fight Club
How anyone can not think Brad Pitt is a good actor after seeing this is beyond me. Extremely fresh and entertaining, great twist, superb acting and directing. A "must see" for any serious film lover!
7
The Godfather 1972,  R)
The Godfather
It's not at #1 in the IMDB for no reason! The best mafia/ mobster film ever made.
8
The Silence of the Lambs 1991,  R)
The Silence of the Lambs
Due to the fact that I have a rather strange obsession with forensic psychology I absolutely love this film. The sequels (to date) have not lived up to the quality of this one.
9
Gladiator 2000,  R)
Gladiator
The score caught my attention before the film. Extremely powerful and evocative. The film didn't disappoint either. Strong performances from all of the cast but I was particular impressed with Joaquin Phoenix.
10
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King 2003,  PG-13)
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
Fantastic effects, fantastic cinematography, a rather long ending but certainly the best of the three.
11
Pulp Fiction 1994,  R)
Pulp Fiction
The very definition of cool.
12
Sleepy Hollow 1999,  R)
Sleepy Hollow
I love the cinematography in this. Johnny Depp gives a great performance, the humour level is just right and Walken makes a great headless horseman!
13
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring 2001,  PG-13)
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
Peter Jackson did an absolutely brilliant job of recreating this Tolkien epic. Can't criticise any aspect of this film, or the trilogy.
14
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers 2002,  PG-13)
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
Fantastic battle sequence, amazing effects. Again I find it difficult to criticise this film at all although I sometimes find Samwise's character a little bit nauseating. My least favourite of the three but still a fantastic film.
15
The Godfather, Part II 1974,  R)
The Godfather, Part II
Superb film and amazing performances from both De Niro and Pacino. I love it when those two work together!
16
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind 2004,  R)
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind
I think Kate Winslett really shines in this film. I love the subtlety of the storyline and the wonderful imagery. I also enjoyed the fleshing out of some of the more minor roles such as Elijah Wood's character.
17
Léon (The Professional) 1994,  R)
Léon (The Professional)
It's different, it's amazing. Great story, great script, superb acting from everyone but notably Natalie Portman and Gary Oldman and an unusual look at a solitary, strange, yet endearing hitman.
18
The Shawshank Redemption 1994,  R)
The Shawshank Redemption
Clever story and script with some very strong performances from the lead characters. Some delicately developed themes throughout and a great tale of hope.
19
The Dark Knight 2008,  PG-13)
The Dark Knight
Absolutely fantastic. No opportunity to get bored, plot was great, music was spot on, acting was superb, Heath Ledger was mind blowing. You must see this film!
20
Shaolin Soccer 2001,  PG-13)
Shaolin Soccer
Absolutely brilliant. Hilariously stupid.
21
Kung Fu Hustle 2004,  R)
Kung Fu Hustle
Absolute genius. Highly entertaining and great fun.
22
Miller's Crossing 1990,  R)
23
Moulin Rouge! 2001,  PG-13)
Moulin Rouge!
I think Ewan is great in this movie. A very touching, comedic and delightful film and a wonderful visual rollercoaster with one of the more original soundtracks.
24
Elizabeth 1998,  R)
Elizabeth
This film was the first film I saw Cate Blanchett in and I was truly impressed. She gives a very convincing and moving performance as Elizabeth I (received an Oscar nomination). Although I'm generally not a big Joseph Fiennes fan he played the lovesick, jealous and angry lover well but for me, along with Blanchett, the key performance also came from Christopher Eccleston as the dark and sinister Duke of Norfolk. An outstanding film that ranks as one of my all-time favourites.
25
Serenity 2005,  PG-13)
26
Black Hawk Down 2001,  R)
27
Frankie & Johnny 1991,  R)
Frankie & Johnny
A nice light comedy role for Al but still a strong performance from both leads. A good story and probably the only rom com that will ever make it into my DVD collection.
28
Batman Begins 2005,  PG-13)
Batman Begins
I swore I would never delve into the comic book realm of super hero's but I'm glad I gave this one a chance. Suitably dark and menacing and significantly less gaudy and tacky.
29
The Usual Suspects 1995,  R)
30
Reservoir Dogs 1992,  R)
31
The Devil's Advocate 1997,  R)
32

34
GoodFellas 1990,  R)
35
Once Upon a Time in America 1984,  R)
Once Upon a Time in America

Apollo 13 1995,  PG)
