It isn't the usual kind of funny, but my god, it's funny. There's a lot of cultural references - in fact, so many it's almost a collage - but they don't stick out as an obvious plug, instead blending in seamlessly into a storyline so hilariously over-the-top, the sheer scale of the lunacy has you going 'whaaaa??' between the laughter.
The special effects are good, the acting is cheesily bad, and there are no characters, just caricatures. But it's still a hoot, an awesome entertainer, and some interesting concepts to think about as well.
If nothing else, worth a watch just for a look at how the world sees the US.
Daybreakers Daybreakers R
Interesting take on vampirism - if the vampire is actually so superior to the human in strength, speed, immortality, and other generic powers, won't they, as an apex predator, eventually dominate the planet? Daybreakers takes the concept of a disturbed balance of nature and shows us a world where the worst has happened, and what is looks like. Other than this concept, the movie's pretty standard-entertaining; lots of blood and gore, a slightly irritating scream-factor bat, plenty of cold blue fluorescent lighting, and some really fascinating looks at vampires now that that're people like us. An excellent performace from Sam Neill and Willem Dafoe, ok from Ethan Hawke who's just doing his standard role all over again.
