Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi 1983,  PG)
Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi
While it may not be the masterpiece in filmmaking that the Empire Strikes Back was, I prefer this film because of it's ending. Empire was really nothing more than an interlude in the sage, while Jedi remains the culmination of one of the greatest fantasy sagas of all time.
2
Willow 1988,  PG)
Willow
This highly underrated film from George Lucas mirrors Star Wars in so many ways it's hard to understand why it so underacheived. Ron Howard was at the top of his game when he directed this amazing film, and Val Kilmer's performance as the scoundrel Madmartigan outshines even Harrison Ford's Han Solo.
3
The Matrix Reloaded 2003,  R)
The Matrix Reloaded
It would have been way too easy to do the same stuff over again, but The Matrix Reloaded boldly mixes things up and adds a lot more to the table. Unfortunately the deep philosophy introduced in this film was lost on many people and many found the film's lack of an ending distasteful. This film is every bit as good as the first.
4
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back 1980,  PG)
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back
Irvin Kirshner took Lucas' amazing fantasy space opera and gave it a masterful filmmaking overhaul.
5
Gladiator 2000,  R)
Gladiator
Ridley Scott's most commercial film to date is also his most entertaining.
6
Aliens 1986,  R)
Aliens
James Cameron decided to go all out action and ended up creating the first super-action film in aruably the best sequel of all time.
7
Crimson Tide 1995,  R)
Crimson Tide
While not Oscar material, Crimson Tide is still a rollicking thrill ride and an intense summer blockbuster. Popcorn flicks don't come much better than this.
8
The Abyss 1989,  PG-13)
The Abyss
Many may wonder why I gave this film such a high rating. The uncut version of this film is a masterpiece of science fiction, while the theatrical release is understandably average. Never before has there been such a tragic case of a film falling victim to studio cuts. I've decided to review the filmmaker's vision as the theatrical release should never have been made.
9
The Matrix 1999,  R)
The Matrix
The greatness of this film is that it succeeds on so many levels. Even if you don't like hard sci-fi or the fantasy aspects, you can love it for being one of the best action movies ever made.
10
300 2007,  R)
300
'300' is an action epic unlike you have ever seen. It's wildly bold and creative with it's breathtaking visuals, and it's innovative and original with it's action. The story is over-the-top in a way a good tall-tale should be. It's tense, exciting, and inspiring. What's also great is that it's a macho story that women can and do love. No ridiculous testosterone buffoonery here. Bloody, gory, and violent, and also glorious, beautiful, and majestic! '300' is a visual masterpiece and a stunningly imaginative example of what films can be. It is utterly amazing.
11
Ocean's Eleven 2001,  PG-13)
Ocean's Eleven
One of the best con/heist films ever made. Soderberg's directing is at his absolute best.

13
Black Hawk Down 2001,  R)
14
True Lies 1994,  R)
15
Army of Darkness 1993,  R)
Army of Darkness
A twisted and askewed comedy sequel that mainstream audiences have a hard time dealing with, yet remains one of the biggest cult classics of all time.
16
The Right Stuff 1983,  PG)
17
Mallrats 1995,  R)
18
Excalibur 1981,  R)
19
The Untouchables 1987,  R)
The Untouchables
The classic prohibition era gangster film. Costner, Conner, and De Niro are all in top form in what is probably De Palma's best film.
20
The Hunt for Red October 1990,  PG)
