How dare I not have rated this sooner!!! Shocking, I must go punish myself. This movie is cinema brilliance, like others are saying-epic. Not only is it Charlton Heston, but the chariot race scene/sequence is the greatest scene in cinema history (in my opinion). Especially the scale of it, and it isn't computer generated. It's all set and people and paintings and horses. I have seen this movie too many times to count over my life and it is always one I look at for how a movie should be made.
Ok, I am feeling moderately generous to Pirates 3. Still pissed about the Norrington thing. Other than that, really liked it. Didn't feel like 3 hours to me. Probably will like it more after I see it a few times, except the Norrington thing. Told ya I'd change it.
Love love love love love it. Think I can say it anymore? I love Jane Eyre and all the Austen's, but I thought I should branch out and thanks to IMDB message boards I found this and loved it. Very clean, good love story, sigh. Need to go watch it again....
Ok, got a bit too heated up near the middle, caused a bit of a stir amongst the book fans, but the acting is amazing and the chemistry between the leads is enough to make up for that. My favorite version due to the believability of the actors. The 1983 with Timothy Dalton was good too but lacked the believability.
Wow, one of the most beautifully filmed movies I have seen. Just in the opening sequence alone, wow. Lee Pace is quickly rising up my list of fave actors, he was amazing in this film. The little girl was great. The acting was all great. The locations, they location scouts were amazing. From what I heard all the scenic effects (except the scene wipes) were actually locations and great camera positions, not special effects. Really loved this movie, so glad I finally watched it. I brought it home twice and fell asleep before it even started last time.
I honestly loved this movie. I thought it was brilliant (no pun intended). I love directors who are fearless with the camera, and the camera was upside down in spots and the angles were fantastic. Some familiar plot points, but all in all I loved it. I was tired when I started it, but by the end I was sitting up straight and really into it. Love it, love it, love it.
I laughed so hard, I had to use a pillow to muffle it (my parents were in bed). I have nothing else to say about it really, except Alan Tudyk was freaking hilarious, not that I wanted to see his bum but oh well. The opening credits was brilliant (I thought), following the the coffin (chalk drawing) on it's way to the house complete with roundabouts and wrong turns. Ha ha, then it gets there and mayhem ensues...no spoilers here. Not for everyone, swearing, drug use and nudity, British humour. Oh yeah, hee hee. I almost peed my pants laughing, and it was just as funny the next time I saw it.
Fantastic. Haven't seen a good western in years, especially one with good characters and character development, and 2 of the greatest most versatile actors today.
I really loved it, Sean Bean, Christian Bale. Yeah, the only good movie Kurt Wimmer has done to date (that I'm aware of). The choreography for the fights was pretty amazing, and of course the kicking down the door scene.
I was a little worried in the opening scene, but those fears were soon alleviated. Being raised on the books, I was very worried, but when I saw the mothballs fall out of the wardrobe, it was all good. I just wish they didn't try to be LOTR. Still loved it though.
Liked it more than Pirates 1 and why haven't I rated it sooner? Bill Nighy-rocked, Tom Hollander-brilliant, Jack Davenport-fantastic, best character development in the whole movie.
This movie was well done, even if you didn't like the story. The effects, acting (ok, Johnny Depp and Geoffry Rush alone's acting made it worth watching), and the scenery...mmm...ocean...
Love this movie. It was the last of the weekend movies and I started it at 10 pm. I didn't stop at all, even though I had to pee really badly. I was that into it.
Yeah, I give it 5. Leo's best movie (or one of). Actors were great, script was good, not preachy. Harsh though. Some scenes were very hard to watch, but one of the best of last year, if not the best.
I love it. I saw the stage play twice in Vancouver, must say that even with the mask on Mr Butler stole the show. During the Masquerade scene when he looked at Christine (Emmy Rossum) makes me hold my breath every time. Needed a better Raoul (sorry, but Patrick Wilson is to flat of an actor, but boy can he sing).
Not huge spoilers in here for most people. It's also probably not a good idea for kids to watch it, sure it's PG-13, but there are a bit of scary stuff in it. All righty, where to begin. Aaron Eckhart stole the show, get over it folks. Heath was great, didn't think of the Joker/Heath connection at all, which is good wasn't a distraction and meant that he did his job and did it brilliantly. Back to Aaron E. though. Like I said he stole the show. The journey over the course of the movie that his character took and to make it that believable was a mark of excellence. For the record I am not a huge fan of his, but there is no denying how good he was. Maggie Gyllenhaal was a good replacement for Katie Holmes, she came in did the job, character felt much the same as in Batman Begins, so she was excellent as well (another one that I am not a big fan of, but can't deny she is good). Christian Bale, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman were great, Cillian Murphy's brief moment was fantastic (although he seemed too normal again after BB, but there could be an explanation that we didn't get). The effects were good, a little unbelievable in spots (ahem, Two Face's eye), but mostly were great. It was interesting how some people died in nasty ways, but you never really got to see it. I liked that. A thinking movie, not a fluffy all style no substance popcorn summer flick, which is a lot of the reason why I love it.
Brilliant, everything since is trying (and mostly failing) to be this movie. Full of flaws? Yes, but come on even I barely figured it out before the end. Even then, I wasn't 100% sure.
Not perfect, but I loved it. Someone else said all the girls should watch it to stare at Hugh's hot bod. That's funny, I thought something along those lines as those scenes came up. Hee hee. I love Baz Luhrmann films (I have all of his previous ones, ok it's only 3 but who cares) and this will definitely be joining the collection. There isn't heaps of action, and the bombing comes well after the cattle drive, despite how it comes across in the synopsis. The kid was amazing, especially for his first film role, wow. David Wenham was fantastically nasty. Interesting film all around.
