Hotaru no haka (Grave of the Fireflies) 1988,  Unrated)
Hotaru no haka (Grave of the Fireflies)
Studio Ghibli has always been my favorite film company. I had seen most of the Ghibli library up til this film. Many had said that "Grave of the Fireflies" was sad. Being a Studio Ghibli nerd, I finally decided to give it a shot. But I was in for a huge surprise.

This was truly the saddest film I've ever watched. Rarely does a film make me experience so many emotions within the runtime of only 90 minutes.

I forgot that I was watching an animated film and that I was experiencing the same emotions the characters were.

Sadness, anger, frustration, and small bits of happiness came flying towards me as I watched.

I've never had that experience before. I could say so many good things about this movie, but I don't think that would suffice.

"Grave of the Fireflies" is a powerful, tragic, and brilliantly made film and probably the best war movie ever made.
