1
The Dark Knight 2008,  PG-13)
The Dark Knight
Truly the only must-see movie of the summer! Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker is so dark and chilling; he OWNS this role, and is a definite contender for an oscar nod!

Kudos to Christopher Nolan - the plot, the action, the choice of cast, all excellent!
2
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street 2007,  R)
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
A tale of revenge and blood lust - Johnny Depp delivers an outstanding performance, as does Helena Bonham Carter!
3
The Passion of the Christ 2004,  R)
The Passion of the Christ
Reading about the Passion is one thing - to see it portrayed on screen is indescribable. To think that someone went through this for me.....
4
Dirty Dancing 1987,  PG-13)
Dirty Dancing
Love this movie! How much are you willing to risk for love???
5
Imitation of Life 1958,  Unrated)
Imitation of Life
Love this movie, even though it makes me cry EVERY TIME! Sometimes we realize, too late, what is important in life.
6
The Color Purple 1985,  PG-13)
The Color Purple
A great portayal of the plight of the black woman and the struggles we face. Whoopi Goldberg and Oprah Winfrey shine in this film! Danny Glover emodies the role of "Mister" so well, that I hated him for years after.

Extraordinary cast, extraordinary film!
7
The Libertine 2004,  R)
The Libertine
Rochester: "Allow me to be frank at the commencement. You will not like me. The gentlemen will be envious and the ladies will be repelled. You will not like me now and you will like me a good deal less as we go on."

Beautifully shot, brilliantly acted, The Libertine displays the debauchery that was 17th century England. Johnny Depp, as John Wilmont, 2nd Earl of Rochester, shows (once again) why he is one of the greatest character actors of our time. Samantha Morton and Rosamund Pike are stellar as Wilmont's love interests (lover and long-suffering wife). John Malkovich as Charles II, rounds out this great cast.

This film is not for the prudish or those with what I call "virgin ears"- that is my warning to you.

Edward Scissorhands 1990,  PG-13)
Edward Scissorhands
An artificial man trying to fit into the real world, Edward initially finds his niche, even daring to fall in love. But he soon learns that hatred and fear of the unknown can turn the tide very quickly. This Burton/Depp collaboration is beautifully done and painfully touching (literally).
17
Secret Window 2004,  PG-13)
