Contact
everytime i watch this movie something you never even caught before makes you go "oh wow thats clever!" i can't think of a better written, acted, or better visiual effects for a movie than this. and those of you who who think that the '18 hours' bit at the end ruinedit....forget about the fact that it sways your decision, its genius and it tied the whole movie together when they question her in the courtroom, the last half hour is needed for the film.

Peter Pan
oh gosh i know it might be illegal but jeremy sumpter....mmmm mmm!! i've only seen jason isaacs in 2 movies and his preformance in both is excellent. the acting, plot and dialog in this movie places it in my top 50 (and oh the goosebumps you get when wendy and peter are dancing in the forest with the fairies :P)
5
To Kill A Mockingbird 1962,  Unrated)
To Kill A Mockingbird
i seriously loved this book so im a little bias, but this is quite possibly the best life lesson one can aquire except "Well, I -- I think that it -- that it wasn't enough just to want to see Uncle Henry and Auntie Em -- and it's that -- if I ever go looking for my heart's desire again, I won't look any further than my own backyard. Because if it isn't there, I never really lost it to begin with!" teehee. oh but what ever happened to the cute little actress who played scout? well done (especially you gregory peck and your cunning hotness) even tho like 1/4 of the book wasn't in it.

i don't watch movies for their realism. i don't view them in a self respective way, or judge the plots' plausibility based on my own experiences. you shouldn't have to warn people to have an open mind about a film because it should open it for you. a gateway really so you can experience new and exciting magical feeling precariously through the character, but yes to open that gateway, you need to recognize that there is a gate there....cue realistic plot. some might view the thought of an 11 year orphan child growing up in a boys camp would have such an optimistic view on life that he would whimsicaly leave his only home at night becuase the moon told him to, and that if he followed his heart and what he truly loved he would find his happy ending, as in all fairytales as impossible. but why not? is it so far fetched that people can be so happy and reach their goals when dealt such a misleading hand? i just think it's a waste for the movie goers who are so doubtful that love can last and people can still be heartbroken and longing for more than 5 years. it's beautiful that a young boy growing up in such a deprived environment can experience such magic and wonder and truly feel it. but the writers just didn't pick an 11 year old boy to have such drive and faith becuase somebody thought it was thier lucky number, it seems at age 10 little boys seem to question santa clause, and adventures with tonka trucks and pirate ships and it just seems to fade out of them. that imagination turns into the best way to defeat the aliens in HALO becuase in real life there is no room for that magic. by having a more worldy knowledgable character that knows wha t it's like to be down and told by others your different and freaky that made it through this barrier is just trying to hint to the audience to do the same, whats wrong with letting yourself get wrapped in the music and the unlikelyness of them all being united at once? it's not impossible, and as chick flicky as you think this movie is i think it's magnificant how they mixed the childhood vision and happiness of peter pan, oliver twist, orphan annie, a little princess and a love story between adults who never let go of the little thing that kept them tied to the magic into such a colourful treat to the eyes and ears.

Spirit - Stallion of the Cimarron
is it wrong that i favorite three cartoons in my top six? no, not when they're as cool as the Pol Ex and as classic as the little mermaid!! all three are on different levels from one another. all made with new/different vison. so this one doesn't have all the diving, weaving and thrilling picture that the polar express has, but they worked a totally different story and got knocked for it. some say that it was a terrible idea to have voice over's for the animals. what! it was awesome! did they think children would be less captivated by it if the pony's mouth isn't moving? cuz they were way off if so. i haven't met a girl under 10 who didn't like this movie! haha, which brings me back to the pitiful question "is it wrong to favorite 3 cartoons....."

ii don't even have to tell a boy from 10 - 36 that they have to see this movie in thaters. even if all they've seen was the trailor you can tell this movie has EVERYTHING! a war on earth, killer robots, fast cars therefor amazing car chase, hot blonde and brunette who know all about fast cars and killer robots, little childhood antics that only a 12 year old would find cool (but when you get your head around the fact that your really are 21 the cheesy parts are just a whole lotta kiz your pants) wicked heroes with the best names in the world!!! com on, just say it....optimus priiime!.... *shakes* hottest robot i've ever seen! but they even went further than that and added a whole secrect government plan that wasn't too far fetched for a 12 year old to believe, kudos! i mean of course it would have been better for me if paul walker had been the main character. there really was no eye candy for the other half of the population that was bound to go see it becuase thats all any guy will talk about for the next week, but that might have taken a bit of it away for the guys, it's always better when a not so hot male character gets the hot chick and saves the world. im just really stoked that they went for this movie because who knows whats next, Rainbow Brite -The Movie.....!!!!!

The Nightmare Before Christmas
man i luv the tone and feeling you get just watching the animation, gosh timmy how you use colour...or don't use it for that matter! i swear every shade of grey imaginable is in each of his films....... let alone the aweomse lyrics to the songs and wicked characters, pretty much a genius and so imaginative. i totally still get the shivers from the opening scene, so beyond any wildest nightmare and kindof the 'sleepy hollow' feel to it. halloween itself is just awesome and this is everything halloween. not a christmas movie at all, please, deffinatly halloween. what's scarier than a skelton taking over christmas? exactly....halloween. the film did considerably well considering the narrow audience it had to a appeal to. children (well i for one) under 12 had only heard of the terrors in this film, not allowed to watch it until their teens, and by that time, or in this age, there's so much merchandise in the form of emo/goth accesories/clothing that if thats not your way of expressing yourself you can get labelled just for likeing the film. damn all the emo's that claimed this movie for their depressing and lifeless existance. :P

Lucky Number Slevin 2006,  R)
Lucky Number Slevin
simply complex! everything, the whole storyline was so perfectly twisted and believable and a little humorous at times. that's what i admire most, it's quite tragic really yet not so heavy hearted and dark as say the departed. it's lighter than resevoir dogs and even in the movie they stated how it closely resembled hitchocks north by northwest. see, everything! even josh hartnett in a towel! :P teehee, no i totally get a creep vibe from that guy but that was just a great line-up of actors! not going to ruin it for you, just go see it, rent it buy it, tis a gooder!

gosh that was not what i expected at all, it almost had a tim burton feel to it! very exciting and if you don't have any knowledge of music before britney spears you won't understand half of the wonderfully cute little anticdotes placed throughout the film. a little predictable, deffinatly a girly movie but guys could get a laugh out of it.....if they were drunk....or high.......or both......or just a big flamer....

Magnolia 1999,  R)
Magnolia
Caution: Do not watch this movie if you have recently lost a loved one, have just came down with a life threatening illness or are considering suicide. it will push you over the top! the whole time i thought to myself "wow...they nailed it!" nailed what exactly? human emotion, anxiety and depression at its worst. every character needed one big hug, goshi needed a bowl of icecream half way through the movie and that was the least stressful time! excellent film, so tragic and well written. it was just....sssssso realistic at times, so anti-cliche bullshit. the characters didn't beg to be pittied, they fought through their own struggles alone....which coincidently made it very sad, ever so misty did i get. the whole words of wisdom or amazing tagline that movie strive to have and it usually ends up being a pathetic line from shakespear....not here, each character had their own moment with their own valuable thoughts, words, feelings and perspectives.... genius!!! i was absolutly blown away, and the ending!!! oh man!!! im not going to give it away for you 'non-magnolia watchers' but think of the last thing that could possibly happen in life/in a movie.....thats what happens! haha, brilliant!!! and the performances!!! tom cruise, haha, we know that you really are that crazy in real life though, so im not sure we can classify that as a performance but thank you for the comic relief!!! can't wait to watch it again.....well yes i think i'll need to watch very light movies for the next week before i can put myself through something so emotionally taxing as this movie.....little mermaid you're calling my name!!!

Across the Universe 2007,  PG-13)
Across the Universe
wow so picture....first picture forrest gump. a tale riddled with tones of fact, made fiction through an outlandish character and how he tied into the events of his time. now throw in a little Moulin Rouge in both theatrical and the romantic sense, with a little but of Big Fish with how the tale twists and seems so unbelievably realistic. now about two thirds of the way through a little Alice in Wonderland shines through all laced with a little but of a high school romance yet so painfully dramatic at some points yet....uplifting at joyous at other and everything in between. it was abstract yet factual and it seems that there were things that needed explaining but, it really didn't because i think that was the feel the whole movie was going for. i don't like how it got all creepy carnie in the middle with their psychedelic trip outs. it's like they producers were distracted for a second and tim burton came running in from off stage and twisted the movie for about 20 minutes, then ran away giggling to himself. but it all adds to the unpredictability of the whole plot. just be very open-minded upon viewing it and let the happy moments bring you up like you were watching Grease and don't run away from the thought that its a musical.....it that and every other movie it could be.....or that you could want it to be. i think it applied to all genres with its dark scenes and stories, its twisted and creepy ones, and its very happy childish version, that was all so artfully constructed with the best soundtrack you could possibly think of. they tried to condense the 60's, both in tension at home and the reality of events that actually took place with a scenario that was very plausible. there?s so many undertones and hidden messages that i almost wish i was in my 60's to actually understand and appreciate the full value of the story. i just really applaud the intense thought and planning that went into this movie even though it gives the feel that it didn't, they didn't shove down your throats that "you will like this movie for its quality and only that". all types of movie goers will find one part of the movie that was their absolute favorite, there's something for everyone if you decide that the grand total of it all was a little too much for your taste.

Cidade de Deus (City of God) 2002,  R)
Cidade de Deus (City of God)
this film is riddled with irony and parallelism, quite geniously really. behind it's interesting plot and eventful lifestyles of the well developed characters, they demonstrated how impossible it may seem for a child born in the hood to become nothing but a gangster. the same story of "you have to work for a better life, you can't cheat people out of theirs to better yours", but its not shoved down your throat in a moral boring formal way. it's neat how the interests of people can be influenced by what is available to them. they handed out guns to any child who asked for them, they learned what to do with it and became really good at it. Rocket (main character) was given a camera...told to study hard but actually was given the opportunity to be good at something that wasn't illegal because he had a passion for it. it's kind of inspriring despite the gruesomness of the story, and refreshing that the audience wasn't being preached to. haha, maybe im just making something out of a gangster movie that really isn't there, or i'm driving away some potential viewers because i said there was a lesson behind it....there wasn't ! if you don't want it to have one it doesn't.....(ironically what the movie demonstrates about life!) damn i'm good!

Octopussy
one of my favorite james bond films even though its not sean connery. most films in the series have everything in it, but octopussy had more than everything!!!! not only was there horse racing, plane chasing, cab chase down the busy streets of india, bombs , jewlery theaft castles and technologically advanced gadgets, in 5 minutes he fought off elephants, tigers, king cobras and crocodiles! plus a circus, he got with two chicks instead of one fought pirates, clowns police and russian communisits! where was the car Q? i mean the watch was pretty impressive but the fanciest car in the whole deal was a rusty old trans am with NO hidden rockets behind the headlights and no invisible cloaking device....bah. i have to admit it wasn't as classy as the early and late bond movies. seems that the roger moore era was a little shaky

Happy Feet
Gosh the film was so cute clever and funny for the first hour......then....dammit why'd they mess it up! just this random change of plot and all the cuteness was snatched outta it...they almost had it all but then they had to get all preachy.......poor happy feet.
now don't get me wrong, i think it's great that there are so many big name actors in this movie, but it just goes to show how directed towards adults cartoons are these days. obviously robin williams makes the movie with his voice over of lovelace and that little penguin that humps everything, but are all the other 10 necessary? they did i great job it's just there are other highly trained individuals out there who are worth a tenth as much as nicole kidman that train for this, i was really impressed with britney murphy and i actually believe it's her singing voice, but kids really dont give a hoot!
gawsh i remember the day i find out robin williams (again) was the genie! rocked my little 5 year old world, "there's people behind that moving cartoon mouth! " poor leasha

Vantage Point 2008,  PG-13)
Vantage Point
either im still in the state of awe or im trying to jusitfy why i no longer have long fingernails, but that movie was exciting! im still pretty hyped about the twisty-cleverness and the very improbable yet possible turn of events.

just a heads up, it takes a while to get used to the format, but im sure if you've seen Crash before you'll be able to keep up. yes the opening scene from a black fade out happens 5 times ( it does end eventually, just stick with it) but each time it's an elated rush of bright colours and smiling faces, slowly developing into a dark plot which is completely unnoticable until it's too late. then right there when it climaxes --> quick reverse of those events back to another character and their events which lead up to the same climax. ( kinky)

oooo and the best part is, the story is made more believable with the actual events in american history! very crafty, yet simple enough to be able to follow when munching on a bowl of cheerios so if you miss a word or two you're still in. oh and the actors don't pull that halle berry stuff where certain actors get preference and more screen time.

P.S. riley this isn't a gift hint , even though i would buy it, hah Travis already did. but....wasn't it supposed to be released tomorrow? he must be part of the mafia

The Departed 2006,  R)
The Departed
gosh, not to kill the ending or anything but wow, i haven't been that shocked since they cancelled bert and ernie on sesame street! i mean the first shot was one jump from your seat moment, but two more? jeez! the first time you watch it the dialog seems a little over the top, but it's quite clever come round two. jackie boy of course gives his crazy good preformance, had a few joker-like scenes i enjoyed and so many nail biting intense "oh my gosh can't they see it!" moments. clever movie, i gave it 4 1/2 at first but it's grown on me even after the second time.
