The Three Musketeers 1973, PG)
The first part of one of the greatest swashbucklers of all time. Christopher Lee is superb as the Count De Rochfort, and Charlton Heston is equally good as Cardnal Richelu. The film injects a little more levity then the book contained, but it works well here. |

The Four Musketeers 1975, PG)
An excellent continuation (I wouldn't completely call it a sequel - this and the previous film, "The Three Musketeers" were shot at the same time). Only two changes from the book makes it lose points from the previous film. The first is the narration that brackets the film, plus the montage at the end, which seemed unnecessary. The second is a spoiler, and I will not mention it here. |

Excellent fight scenes, excellent story, excellent acting, and excellent photography. The only reason I can imagine why this didn't get an Academy Award is because the Academy is, as it is with Sci-Fi films, biased against the genre. |
