Superior vampire film. The friend/lover is a vampire idea has been done before, but not like this. I wanted it to go on and on. If you don't see this...you're missing something special. I suggest watching a copy with "theatrical subtitles", not the standard ones (big difference), and listen in the original Swedish. This film is thought-provoking and smart.
Incredibly intense. Wonderful flamenco dancing and music. Powerful emotions portrayed. Love, passion, betrayal, ghost. This is a great work by Carlos Saura.
This one was a surprise. It just kept right on coming. I can't recommend this any higher than five stars, but I would if I could. A real treat for sci-fi and action lovers. Good romance sprinkled on top.
I loved this. It was great to see Elijah Wood doing the cannibal character. Mickey Rourke was perfect. The best "noir" I've seen other than the classic noir. This is actually something different and most definitely not for everyone.
A heart-warming romance showing that there just might be somebody for everybody. Not for the closed-minded or judgmental folks. You'll know if you'll be OK with this movie in the opening scene. Maggie Gyllenhaal is wonderful and James Spader is his usual intense self.
Intelligent killer fun. Good performances from John Cusack and Minnie Driver. Professional killer goes to his high school reunion, tries to patch it up with sweetheart he ditched, and avoid getting killed. Smart writing, well performed.
I love this movie. Brad Pitt as a stoner is perfect. This film is loaded with talented actors. The leads play off each other very well and their romance is a different one. I've watched this many times.
I loved the weaving of personal and professional in this movie. Angelina and Brad got the relationship language beautifully, right down to the body and facial looks. Tough love
Another one I don't get tired of seeing again. I'm glad that Sigourney was able to show off her body somewhat. She's said that's something she wanted to do in more than one interview I've seen/read. This is an enjoyable movie overall.
Showing the value of nonviolence by doing revenge for money, getting drunk and killing everybody. That aside, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and cried at the end.
Government spook and his wife. Humor, action, body count, atomic bomb in Florida. Lots of special effects. Watch this if you want diversion that will take you away for awhile.
I was surprised how much I liked this film. There's actually something in it for everybody. It's smart, too, and doesn't pander or underestimate the audience.
Really really stupid. That said, I've watched it countless times. I can't explain it. Cindy Ann Thompson sparkles as the cavegirl. Do NOT expect much from this film.
Based on a true story of an autistic woman who did remarkable things (hover mouse over movie title for synopsis). Claire Danes in a terrific performance. I wiped my eyes more than a few times. Very good film.
It all starts mundane enough, with a teacher and students in a one-room schoolhouse in Australia. Everybody does the things teachers and students do normally until the bad guys arrive and the rug is pulled out from everyday life.
As the scenes and situations shift and change, so do the roles and hierarchy of the teacher and students. The last part of the movie, when the teacher and students are involved with police is unnerving and heartwarming and horrible and satisfying all at the same time.
This movie shows many of the primal and tribal things that are part of the human past and present and the resourcefulness and ferocity that can arise in people chosen as victims.
It's left up to us to figure out what we just viewed. We don't even know whether the children are psychologically scarred for life by what's happened to them and what they've done as a consequence.
Thought-provoking on many levels, with a feeling of reality that hits home. History and even the daily news shows us that people are capable of things that seem improbable if not impossible. It's not hard to believe the premise of this movie.
The Earps. Val Kilmer really feels like he has tuberculosis. Good cast. Based loosely on a true story. I've watched this several times and will do so again.
Super secret organization oversees outer space beings who are visiting or living on Earth. Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are the Men in Black. Linda Fiorentino doing her straight face thing. Very enjoyable.
I've seen this several times and find it entertaining. I think it's one of the better John Waters movies. Kathleen Turner is terrific and the other main characters are played so well. This is not Roman Polanski or Orson Welles, it's from a different kind of mind.
The Odd Couple on ice skates. Naturally, they fall in love. There's Olympics gold, too. I like this one. Romance, athletics, gamesmanship, self-knowledge. Plausible story.
Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are witch sisters in New England from a long line of witches. They're cursed when it comes to love. The curse strikes and they have to make things right again. Well-made, well acted.
Terrific music, with a seemingly happier ending than the original. The song "Skid Row" is powerful and who can deny "Suddenly Seymour" is a title to think about?
This was just silly and old school comedy enough that I really enjoyed it. Repeatedly. Good performances by just about everybody in the cast. I appreciate Reese Witherspoon a lot.
I like this movie. Good for sci-fi and action fans. Terrific special effects. Earth invaded once again. Tall Will Smith and even taller Jeff Goldblum have a solution.
Hector Elizondo was wonderful in this. The idea of the movie is completely unoriginal, but it comes off nicely. Worth at least one viewing. I've seen it several times.
Not a great movie, but one to watch if you like football...which I do. Old quarterback goes to college that's rebuilding its football team, falls in love with a prof, gives the team some pride. I've seen this several times and always enjoyed it.
I watched this again and decided to rate it a bit higher. I guess I was feeling a bit critical when I rated it before. Not an example of great film making, but it definitely is a good example of a movie about relationships (ten couples). This is something I'll include in my short list of things to curl up with during holidays. Many heartwarming moments and opportunities for tears of joy. The idea that love is everywhere on the planet and that everyone has a story about relationships is a wonderful antidote to the seemingly endless torrent of hate and hopelessness we're inundated with daily.
For young people and the young at heart. Good performances in a familiar idea. A feel good film. U.S. girl finds out she's really a princess of another country and has to decide whether to accept the role.
Low-key movie. I really liked Adam Carolla's character, a guy who never gives 100 percent, and has reaped the consequences of it. The character should have been immersed in angst over his lot in life, but wasn't. Warm, human, positive, this movie was a restorative for me. I recommend it.
I love Jean Reno, so I probably rate this movie too high. It was violent, funny, and touching. The English of the Japanese girl was quite hard to understand (try subtitles if you have the same difficulty I had). Another ending where I got to water my cheeks.
Teeth clenching scenes, good special effects. Volcano stops being dormant, everybody runs. Like the volcano, the movie's quiet for awhile, then it's nonstop action.
I didn't like this the first time I saw it. I've watched it several times now and I have to say I've grown fond of it. A guy with a horrible job is tricked into jumping into a volcano on an island where the chief is Abe Vigoda. Meg Ryan plays three different women. Dreamlike and touching.
