Schindler's List 1993,  R)
Schindler's List
A movie well done and deserves the highest destinction for the effort and deliverance. The work of Oskar Schindler could be expressed as one of the greatest in history. Delivered l by Stephen Spielberg, acted many top flight actors, like Ralph Finnes who does his job out of passion. A movie that bloomed Stephen Spielberg, and changed the view points of many people.

This story tells us of a tragedy never to be forgotten in the book of history. Some may not accept, but many know of the catastrophe upon the Jews of Poland, Germany, and many other countries in the reign of the third Reich.

Schindler, then a tycoon, established a company within the concentration camp complex, using it to fulfil the need of human resource. His then main objective is money. At the time, a souless Nazi commander Amon Goeth had the power over the concentration camp Auschwitz. He was known for sniping Jews from his balcony on his house which stood atop of a hill in the center of the death camp. Schindler grew pity.

The factory that Schindler had established became a safe refuge for the Jews in the death camp. With the money he had made, he decided to create the famous list, in which each name will be saved from death penalty. Over 1000 more lives will be spared from the wicked era of the third Reich. Schindler spent every penny to save an extra life. Despite the danger doing so, he adds more and more name. This movie tells us a story on the life of Schindler and the process which changed him from a money oriented man, into a man of virtue.

The last scene, in which Schindler's Jews and their descendants commemorated his death shows us their appreciation and gratitude to Schindler. The way it's delivered is so perfect and can be no better. It shows us how how one person can change the world of many. The legacy of Schindler and his works will remain in many's heart, and surely in the nation's heart.

This movie holds something that had long been abandoned by the others. It teaches values long forgotte like pity, compassion, and amnesty. No matter how many times one sees this movie, the message will always reach.

Cidade de Deus (City of God) 2002,  R)
Cidade de Deus (City of God)
A tragic story of two young boys, growing in the same neighbourhood, growing with different syllabus. The story is set in the Brazilian slums, one of the world's most dangerous place. It tells a story on how our decisions can shape who we are to become. One of the two boys, Rocket, becomes a photographer. Meanwhile, the other, Lil Zé becomes a blood thirsting drug lord. The human life, precious as we see it, is in the hand of those overlord that ruled the area. The police were corrupt and pledged allegiance to him. As time goes on, his work starts to stumble as the "City of God" opens its door to the world, with the help of Rocket, changing the highest power in the aristocrat. The movie is told from many eyeviews of the main characters, which eventually leads up to one event. The end of the drug lord reign. But as time cycles, another clan forms, whom is to become the future overlord.

The Constant Gardener 2005,  R)
The Constant Gardener
A love-hate tragedy, also a masterpiece by Fernando Meirelles. The documentary style camera and how it delivers the story, is just world class. If you liked the "City of God" this one is highly recommended. It's a story on how big medicine companies test their products using human lives. At first, the companies seem nice by giving drugs to the remote African cities. Tessa (Rachel Weisz) a doctor, starts to feel the foul play. She starts to investigate and "dies" mysteriously. Justin (Raph Finnes), an English lawyer finds out the superpowers behind the death of his beloved. This encourages him to have revenge on the companies by uncovering their masks. The love story is one which is very touchy. I think the best words to describe it is "Unlike those hollywood stories". The soundtrack that plays, add to the tragedy.

The Godfather 1972,  R)
The Godfather
Simply one of the best

The Godfather, Part II 1974,  R)
The Godfather, Part II
Spectacular film! Perhaps, the best of the trilogy. Taken from the book by Maario Puzo, Directed by the late Francis Ford Coppola, features Al Pacino, Robert Duvall, and Robert De Niro, this movie makes it into the category of legend.
This movie reveals the strong brotherhood, better known as the mafia of Sicily. With the reigning Corleone clan going world wide. In this movie, the life story of Michael and Vito are told in parallel. The Corleone clan settles themselves in the USA.

The Godfather, Part III
Simply to top off and turn Godfather into a legendary movie.
7
Sin City 2005,  R)
Sin City
Absolute greatness. No more can be said of it. The best Graphic novel adaptation of all time. Much credit to Frank Miller, one of the most renowned writer in the graphic novel industry (Batman: Dark Knight Returns, Daredevil, Ronin, Give me Liberty). Unlike many other adaptations, this movie sticks to the story of the book frame by frame. Top flight actors, great storyline, combined with the directing brilliance of Tarantino (even though he's only a guest director). And not to mention the dancing Jessica Alba..

The Mission 1986,  PG)
The Mission
Topnotch

The Pianist 2002,  R)
The Pianist
Andrien Brody shows his talent once again in this movie. A strife for freedom, a struggle for survival, and determination for revenge. The qualities of the Jewish at the time of the Hollocaust. All of it is potrayed in this movie.

It also shows the value of a talent, and how it can always be used in many possible ways. Though far from Schindler's List, this movie is a the more laid back type. With the good deliverance by Roman Polanski (being a Jew himself), the emotion of the era is captured in this movie.

Downfall (Der Untergang) 2004,  R)
Downfall (Der Untergang)
A reproduction of what might have been what the last days of Hitler. The acting is world class, and the story was based on countless autobiography, and biographies of those closest to Hitler. Autobiographies of Albert Speer, and Goobles contributed into this masterpiece and help put the missing puzzle into pieces. The tremors by the tension in the bunker was also accounted in their autobiographies. Downfall potrays the last days of the Third Reich, the fall of an empire, and the birth of a new hope.
12
The Green Mile 1999,  R)
The Green Mile
Screenplay excellent, cinematography excellent, acting excellent.. what more could you want? Story line? Indescribeable. A Stephen King masterpiece made into motion picture by the all famous Frank Darabont, having directed in the 'Shawshank Redemption' once again directing a movie worth the title "one of the best ever". How I admire Stephen King.

The Green Mile tells us of an injustice of the legal law system.

Alexander 2004,  R)
Alexander
Focuses on a soldier's lifestyle. Forget the homo part, it was normal for them to do that. Even in the mythology, Jupiter (Zeus) had a wineboy (prettyboy), one of the prince of Troy, and even got his wife jealous. He was not a homosexual.

The Nightmare Before Christmas 1993,  PG)
The Nightmare Before Christmas

The Shining 1980,  R)
The Shining
Jack Nicholson, one of the many talented actors. The book, and how it goes is just amazing. I guess it's with all Stephen King books. Good stuff, good story. Also if you want to remember Stanley Kubrick, watch this movie. One of his best film. Let we remember those passed with good memories. Kubrick's selection of soundtrack is just amazing. The sinister tune of Bella Bartok playing is just the right selection to create the mystic athmosphere. One of the many movies I rate very highly.
