Surprisingly fresh writing makes a low budget scifi film stand out. If even Vin Deisel appered to be a decent actor in this you know the writing and directing wee superb. Unlike it's sequal "Chronicles of Riddick', Vin's charecter is completly compelling and attractive in Pitch Black and all the supporting roles are just as delightful. Radha Mitchell in particular was fantastic.
My favorite of Crichton's books was adapted so well for the big screen. While the book would have alienated the younger readers due to violence, the movie was family oriented enough that all ages could enjoy it, while not sacrificing anything from the original concept. I maintain this is the greatest movie made yet so far: Brilliant score, Beautiful cinematography, cutting edge effects for it's day and it didn't alienate any audience.
The film that made me fall in love with Peter Jackson. A dark comedy, not to be confused for a horror. Michael J Fox is as excellent in this (his last live action movie before retiring) as he was in his classics. This is literally one of the funniest and most quotable movies I've ever seen. "Dog's running away with m'face"
My love and obsession for this film never seems to dwindle. Despite the awkward costumes (and I think they did QUITE well considering) and the PG rating, TMNT had a depth and darkness that attracted me even as a young child and I still appriciate today.
Beautiful score, stunning cinematography, excellent characters. This movie met every hope I had for it. Depp was utterly luscious, hilarious and heroic while still being the villainous pirate rogue he was.
While the plot isn't rocket science, I'm a sucker for a good buddy movie, and in this Banlieue 13 delivers in bounds. Not to mention some exceptional stunts (Le Parkour) by the talented David Belle and some impressive martial arts by Cyrill Rafielli. Fun, but defiently not deep.
Fun, funny, dark and exciting. I'll admit I never read the comics but this seems one of the best adaptations of a comic to film I've seen. Ron Pearlman is a superb Hellboy.
The eagerly anticipated stand alone fourth turtles movie. The CG was breathtaking and the turtles were so delightfully true to charecter, although Michelangelo and Donatello didn't receive near enough screen time. My complaint with the film was the secondary plot that seemed neither to fit nor really add anything to the movie itself, with the flying monsters and the turtles stepping in at the last moment to save the world.
The original and still the best. Michael Keaton made the perfect Batman. Charming and funny but dark and troubled as well, and no one could have played a better Joker than Nicholson.
Still holds the magic and wonder I adored as a child. As much as I love this rendition though I would very much like to see a live action adaptation of Peter S Beagle's beautiful book.
A middleschool students wet dream, still somehow touches that part of us that enjoys seeing different genres paired up to do battle. Surprisingly pleasing.
Clasic 80's "Horror", which comes across more dated than it might have intended, but still manages to be cool and funny. Includes both Coreys as all decent 80's movies should.
When you say B movie, Tank Girl comes first to mind. Low budget, insane script and storyline. As nutty as the comics they were derived from. But Lori Petty is an extremely likable Tank Girl and this is one of those movies you hate to love or love to hate.
Alfred Molina gave a terrific performance as Dr. Octapus, and I loved how the film borederlined on the rediculously comic at times, but still managed to keep it's edge. Very true to the feel of the comics and the cartoons.
Not terrific acting, not a particularly inspired plot, but still somehow Fast and the Furious holds an appeal. Maybe it's just seeing good looking people driving hot cars. Fun and Sexy.
Beautiful and poignant and real. Jackson's take on the classic is heart wrenching. While not usually a fan of Jack Black I thought his performance was perfect and Naomi Watts was so warm and moving. Spectacular. Kong and the Island were so majestic and otherworldly. This is why Jackson is my favorite.
Fantastically horrible. He-Man! And the Masters of the Universe is one of the most fun and poorly made movies I've seen. Hate to love and love to hate.
