2
Dawn of the Dead 1978,  R)
Dawn of the Dead
Read it as comedy or let yourself be dragged into the horror of it. A modern classic
3
Spirited Away 2001,  PG)
Spirited Away
Miyazaki's masterpiece. the culmination of everything he learned about animation and storytelling. A real treat.
4
Barbarella 1968,  PG)
Barbarella
Wonderfully fluffy
5
Zardoz 1974,  R)
Zardoz
Sean Connery in a quirky sci-fi romp, what a way to break free from James Bond
6
Soylent Green 1973,  PG)
Soylent Green
Eerie echoes of a near future. Heston once again stretches himself out of the traditional hero role.
7
The Big Lebowski 1998,  R)
The Big Lebowski
Perfectly put together, Bridges really embodies Lebowski (or the other way round).
8
28 Days Later 2002,  R)
28 Days Later
A great vision of an ordinary bloke's journey. Kind of told in 2 equally distinct parts. a great flick
9
Highlander 1986,  R)
Highlander
dated but still cool (this probably means that i'm not)
10
Trainspotting 1996,  R)
Trainspotting
hard to believe it's over a decade old. Great film-making.
11
Shaun of the Dead 2004,  R)
Shaun of the Dead
Good fun
12
Goodbye Pork Pie 1981,  R)
Goodbye Pork Pie
Classic kiwi bones of your arse film making. A great farce with solid philosophical undertones.
13
The Last Man on Earth 1964,  Unrated)
The Last Man on Earth
Vincent Price out of his element. the real horror in this movie is his reaction to the situation he found himself in. Remade as The Omega Man with Charlton Heston some years later.
14
RoboCop 1987,  R)
RoboCop
could've been a bog-standard action flick but ascends it's genre with a well-drawn world ad good solid characters well played.
15
Gangster No. 1 2000,  R)
Gangster No. 1
2 of my favourite actors play the same character. Forget the witty shmaltz of Lock stock et.al. This is the shit.
16
Planet of the Apes 1968,  G)
Planet of the Apes
Charlton Heston at his best, heroic, wise and compassionate.
17
Night of the Living Dead 1968,  R)
Night of the Living Dead
Feels a bit like it was made for the stage these days. Really sells the claustraphobia of the situation well.
