The Passion of the Christ 2004,  R)
The Passion of the Christ
Thank you Jesus, I know we don't deserve it but you still unconditionally layed down your life for us, you redeemed our sin that would have doomed us all into hell by your words and miracles, even they led to being denied, prosecuted, tortured and suffering the most painful death, but your resurrection eliminated all our doubts and your mission was fulfilled with glory and faith. You make all thing new, through you we're saved and freed and able to reconnect with Heavenly Father instead of being blindfolded by sins.
I'm sure I will go to heaven because you have repayed my debt of iniquity for me and strengthened me with faith and truth. Please forgive us our mistakes, shelter us from the devil's constant temptations.I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me, in you I find my love, liberty and purpose.Amen.

3
Léon (The Professional) 1994,  R)
Léon (The Professional)
natalie portman stars almost the same role in v for vendetta as in this film. She had a complicated relationship with the heros in both films:she's the daughter, lover and apprentice of Leon, also the lover and successor of V.Luc Besson did a brilliant job,he combined the emotional softness of french movies and the action effects of american blockbusters,as a result it showed us a fierce and capable hitman right from the beginning of the movie, without failing to depict the vivid feelings and love in the middle of the film
4
Amélie (Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain) 2001,  R)

6
Interview with the Vampire 1994,  R)
Interview with the Vampire
well i watched this film because of brad pitt and tom cruise but later found out the movie itself was excellent as wel.,it seems almost all anne rice's vampire novels are utimately exploring the 'painful immortality',this film which was adapted on one of her novels told this most powerfully. And tom cruise was perfect for the role Lestat, "Don't be afraid,I'm going to give you the choice I never had."lol i like that,it seemed he knew how to take full adventage of his immortality and make fun out of it while Louis was having some serious meditation.....
7
The Godfather 1972,  R)
The Godfather
very very splendid, all the three of its series, love this kind of family-related mafia film...
8
The Fountain 2006,  PG-13)
The Fountain
The three plots interwove flawlessly, producing this coherent and powerful film.Though the explaination to the film is open,I believe the story actually started in modern world, followed by the future when Tommy had managed to live till 500 years later and kept searching for the way to save his wife, who had become the tree in the future after death in the present.

As for the story in 1500 A.D.I think it was just Izzi's novel"the Fountain",which transformed tommy into believing in the Maya myth and taking Izzi(the tree) to the nebulos as he believed izzi would reborn according to the myth.Conquistaor Tomas finally died and lived as part of the tree of life, which was the ending of izzi's novel .The end of the novel was apparently written by Tommy, with an obvious idealism towards the end of the imaginary plot

When Tommy finally realised that the only way to live together with Izzi was to die,he imagined Tomas' death at the end of the story. In both the ancient plot and the future plot, tom died to be with his love.

"Death is the path to awe".The day humanity is cursed with mortality is the day when humanity is magnified. The power of this film is unlike any other, tom's love to Izzy is so strongly presented that you must stop for a while to ponder on the question of true love and the nature of death. Is death the only way to reunite with our loved and lost ones?

Crash is quite innovative and powerful, the measure used to recount the several plots and connect them together in the end reflects the prevalence and verisimilitude of racial conflict and discrimination, it really shows you the problem objectively while unveiled people's desire of communcation and understanding.Great work, highly recommended

The Butterfly Effect
innovative story, quite moving and powerful as the hero chose to sacrifice himself
19
Pan's Labyrinth 2006,  R)
Pan's Labyrinth
The first spanish movie I watched , terrific. There were two plots in the film, one is the war in reality based on true historical events, the other which was Ofelia's three tasks took place in her fantasy. It was Ofelia's fantasy that kept her going when things deteriorated to an unbearable situation:death of her mother, hatred from her step father, cruel war ,secrets Mercedes wanted her to keep....fulfilling the tasks and returning to the underground world as a princess seemed to be her only reason to linger in this messy world.Ofelia's immaculate fantasy was a somber way to reflect the problems in reality such as war and selfishness.
20
The Village 2004,  PG-13)
The Village
A bunch of people hide themselves in a village away from the wicked outside world and pretended monsters to scare off those who wanna leave the village as a protective measure. But sin is within human's nature, and suffering is an unavoidable part of life,no matter how you escape crime and the pain it brings ,it will come anyway, just when the elders thought they had created a community without crime ,accidents and all those that causes pain, the hero was stabbed by her lover's jealous and lunatic brother. So whether the people should allow the girl to leave the village to get medicine for the stabbed boy and break the tradition,or do nothing to keep the tradition,is the key point of the movie.Pain is unavoidable, and love can handle everything, that's what the movie is trying to say

Lisbon Story 1994,  PG)
Lisbon Story
A great great movie, before watching this I had listened to Madredeus and I knew this movie about them and Lisbon was gonna be just as beautiful as their music. This movie is for those who truly enjoy cinematic art, those who have tastes and perception of beautiful things. The forgotten sides of filming can be found in this movie.
In general the film itself is about filming.Invited by his friend,Winter arrived Lisbon to assist the making of a silent film about the city Lisboa, but with Monroe missing,Winter decided to kill his time by recording the sounds of the city while waiting for his old friend, the story begins here, Winter encountered more and more beauty of the city, and was utterly amazed by the music band Madredeus he came across one night. The songs of Teresa seeped into his soul, enhanced his feelings for Lisboa, also made Teresa Winter's love interest. The departure of Madredeus left Winter forlorn and hollow,he continued recording and increasingly disturbed and irritated by what might happened to Monroe. Finally he managed to capture traces of Monroe and found Monroe who was discouraged and defeated by his incapability of preserving Lisboa in films. To re-ignite his old friend's fervor in filming,Winter presented Monroe with his gain during his stay in the city and finally prompted Monroe to walk out of the shadow of despair and the two of them began a brand new journey of filming in the echo of Teresa's song.
I think there's no need to mention much about the renowned director Wim Wenders who masters the art of filming probably better than anyone,he knew how to present the city as alive with the participation of Madredeus, just like what Monroe suffered in the movie,a film will be at its best only if image and sound combines perfectly together,Winter in a way was the reflection of Wim himself who understood the magic of filming.
The characters are perfect from my point, especially Winter, who possessed an amusing but amazing resolution and love for recording, and is one of the most pleasant characters I ever knew.
I don't know if traditional fado is considered more representitive of the soul of Lisbon by Portuguese people, but for me Madredeus whose music absorbs elements other than fado fits the Lisboa in my impression the best,as Teresa said in the movie about the "river and her songs" that the two "go together",according to Wim Wenders and my own conclusion, Madredeus is a refined representation of Portuguese culture more wholly than fado that emphasises more of Portugal's historical side.
You can see the originality and primary charm of filming in this film, the strange thing is that it is always the simple things contain the most thoughts and insights, it is strongly recommended that people who relish 21 century movies check this out to have a broader and more profound perspective of films, the motif may be a little esoteric, but if you're a true film lover you'll fall for this one :)

Mulholland Drive 2001,  R)
Mulholland Drive
the movie did not make sense to me until I watched for the third time.it's about dream and reality after all.sometimes dreams are shaped by people's deepest desires, which for Diane, are love from Rita, being superior to her,and a successful career. These desires formed the first story which is Diane's dream, the second version of the two women's story is the cruel reality about Diane who was betrayed by Rita and hadn't make a successful actress for career. In the end Daine woke up from her dream in which everything was idealised and killed herself due to the unbearable guilt and pain in reality. Dark and beautiful...

Gangs of New York
When a movie is combined with history or reflects a period of social development,it is always successful. For example the lord of the rings trilogy, which recounted the third&fourth ages of midle earth(although the piece of history is fictional);star wars which tells the story of the republic and empire all those stuff as well as the entire life of anakin skywalker;Godfather series which is about the family history, about how the family business develops with the passage of time. The Gangs of New York is no exceptional,it sets in a background of how america took shape from those chaotic days to the modern metropolis, which brings the film from a gangfight movie to a much more powerful and profound level

95
Zodiac 2007,  R)
Zodiac
A superb masterpiece,it's been so long for such a gripping thriller to come. Based on an actual case in US history, the notorious Mr. Zodiac started to grab the attention of the public by flirting with the police, comfirming his crime with detailed description, pressing the media to publish his message written in codes and treatening public safety.Apart from being puzzled and beating around the bush, the police were not making tangible progress identifying the mysterious killer.Driven by facination and resolution, the cartoonist devoted himself into the case throughout the years, decades later,he finally came up with an clear and explicit analysis of the killer's plan and motivation,he sought Inspector Dave for help, whom in turn picked up the case he had long abandoned. But due to the lack of proper evidence they eventually failed to bring the supposed Zodiac to justice,or even, they themself cannot be 100 percent sure of the killer's identity, which leaves the Zodiac case one of the mysteries in US history.
Mr. Zodiac is depicted as a stylish and insane criminal, whose eccentricities cannot be comprehanded by the investigators and the police. In a way,Zodaic had a streak resembled that of Annie in Misery, whose personality also led to a disturbing impossibility to figure out her next move, when there were basically no rules the police could abide by to enter the killer's thoughts and prepare ahead, puzzlement, panic and discouragement inevitably penetrated these poor people. But in this version of Zodiac movie it's the identity of Zodiac that keeps the audience on the edge of their seats rather than his accomplishments.Great movie, highly recommended!
96
Resident Evil: Extinction 2007,  R)
Resident Evil: Extinction
Cool ! A bit of a stretch to continue the story from apocalypse, but other than that it's very well done, the power of Alice is not over-exagarated as in some dumb superhero movies, and death comes to roles regardless of their categories of importance, these make a less dramatic but more realistic movie. The ending leaves an vague inference of whether there's gonna be another sequel, since Alice's potential has not yet been fully developed and shown, the survivors have not yet reached the last peace of clean land Alaska, the umberalla coorperation has not yet been screwed, there's room for so much more to come, but if the series end here as a trilogy it's not so bad either...
97
Alien3 1992,  R)
98
The Nativity Story 2006,  PG)
The Nativity Story
Nice! This is the kind of Nativity Story that not only captures the sequences of the story in Bible but also shows a cinematic side as well.
The well done casting gives us actors and actresses really fit the characters, especially Joseph, Mary, Herod and the three Magi.
Stories from Bible must be made into authentic movies, the Passion of the Christ is by far,the most successful one, compared to which, the Nativity Story could have been better if Hebrew,Latin and Aramiac were to be used in the movie. And the appearance of the angel could be less human but radiated more aura of divinity. But anyway this is the kind of Bible story movie you cannot get every year and may God bring more of such kind.
99
Dolores Claiborne 1995,  R)
Dolores Claiborne
I made a mistake neglecting this movie before because of its unattractive dvd cover, alas, when I finally watched it I found myself captivated by the story which was rich in both suspense and beauty, another masterpiece adapted from Stephen King's novel!
Most movies more or less have flaws in their plots, but this one had its present event and past memories interwoven naturally and smoothly,so when I watched the movie i just felt that the directer seemed to know exactly what I expected to see according to a logical sequences of event, but I'm not saying that it was being predictable, but how the story developed towards an expected general direction yet with the secret details kept intriguingly suspenseful.
Now comes to the story,it was simply about a young woman finding understanding and forgiveness in her alienated mother. However, with all the unsolved family past as well as vivid description and profound exploration of the characters, especially Dolores who is one of my favourite mothers on screen, the story became alive and heartfelt.Dolores was so admirable with Kathy's outstanding performance of an Oscar Best Actress.
Highly recommended this movie, and if you're a dvd watcher like me rather than a movie goer take my advise ,don't judge a movie by its cover:)

Le Trou (The Hole) (The Nightwatch) 1960,  Unrated)
Le Trou (The Hole) (The Nightwatch)
This is classic, I found myself more absorbed watching this old film than watching prison break, sighting so many cops from the periscope in the end is my favourite scene in this film. The detailed description of how they digged the tunnel and other work irresistably fills the audience with expectation and hope but the ironical ending screwed it all and makes you irritated and then, amused
101
Tube Tales 1999,  Unrated)
Tube Tales
Everybody make sure you check this out,I particularly like the erection and the vomit stories, almost gave me an heart attack lol.
102
Ratatouille 2007,  G)
Ratatouille
This is one of the perfect animations ever came across my way, five stars no question! Both the boy and the rat were humourously depicted and profoundly explored, a journey of dream fulfillment for the rat, materialized in an important stage of the boy's life,in the end there were really something there worthy of savouring and re-watching the film.
The comedian aspects in Ratatouille successed those in Incredibles due to the director,on many occasions i just couldn't help myself being sincerely amused by the sarcacism and irony in the movie, while the story plot was clear and urging the audience to get more of it.
the story itself is about cooking, however the filmmaker did not emphasize on the exhabition of cooking details to impress the audience, rather the vivid and complex description of the characters' inside which captivated the audience unfailingly.
103
The Jacket 2005,  R)
The Jacket
My kind of movie. In many ways this film is a varified version of Butterfly Effect only The Jacket features better performance and shows more reality,it has a strong revealation of the characters' souls thus allows the movie to escalate into something more than a mere thriller.
Compared to Butterfly Effect the Jacket has a vaguer plot which might be a difficulty of understanding the film at the beginning, but once you figure it out you'll see the story is about Jack, who was a soldier during the Iraq war that left him an indelible death experience, being persecuted as a murder and sent into a mental institution where harsh and inappropriate treatment was implemented on him, finding a path to travel through time-the jacket, and trying to change the misfortunes of the ones he cared in the future before his inevitable death descended.
It's not the filmmaker trying to add some depth to the movie that Jack was depicted as self-abandoned and desperately managing to better other people's future, but to be realistic, for someone who experienced death and had brain injury, such motivation and consciousness is justifiable. Even Jack's tiniest emotional undulations were demonstrated to the core thanks to Adrien's outstanding performance.
The ending suggested Jack's final passing with that final question about how much time they had had left,a deja vu to the earlier part of the film,as Jack witnessed Jackie's altered future due to his efforts, the ending of the film achieved a peaceful bittersweet grace
104
28 Days Later 2002,  R)
28 Days Later
I like his better than Resident Evil not only because this movie actualised my secret desire of shopping in that supermarket scene but also because it's so damn real, the fear is tangible in 28 days later while resident evil is more of a fantasy show, especailly the Extinction that had completely detached to a logical future reality. There're not many scenes featuring zombies attacking, most of the time it was about survivors' mentality, about their exposed humanity as well as animality when every restraints in human civilisation had vanished,I love what they did to the soundtrack,it really created a tense, gripping ambient.
105
The Notebook 2004,  PG-13)
The Notebook
Very good indeed as I heard. The story itself couldn't be more common in fact, but the splendor of the Notebook boils down to the recountal skills and filming techniques as well as the delicateness of the descriptions. The only problem, the way i see it,is the soundtrack, there were occasions when the music could be more ethereal or romantic to achieve a grace of classic while those pleasant dancing tunes could have been more reasonably applied in need of exhibating the background
106
Fried Green Tomatoes 1991,  PG-13)
107
Big Fish 2004,  PG-13)
Big Fish
Remarkably heartfelt and truly original, best of Tim Burdon yet.
The main plot is simple like Burdon's previous work, a man's life and the molten down of the iceberg between him and his estranged son.Based on the tansparent story line the movie makes full use of non-hackneyed comicality and memerable fantasy, the overall effect is immensely lauded.
What the movie is trying to propagate is that innocent streak lurking inside everybody, the long-lost vision for wonders and dreams which make all the differences in life, the "big fish",what it's called in the movie.
Edward Bloom seemed to be very gifted to be able to preserve such innocence throughout his life, when circumstance and innocence collide he would always stick to the latter instead of being worn out by the former, which accounted for his legendary life.
While enjoying Edward's stories about his life, his son,the logical wet blanket who stood for the opposite personality, made Edward's soul even stronger by comparison, and also helped the audience to penetrate and understand Edward through his conversion of attitude.
Just like he argued in the movie, Edward didn't fabricate a single amusing lie in a way, it was all true to himself and all who are immaculate enough to appreciate it. What was the true version of his life? Not what exactly physically happened, but what left its mark in the person's mind and heart, that is what his soul had been through, what in accordance we define his life.
There are no miscast in the Big Fish , everything is more than you could ask for. One of the factors that boosted emotions in the movie is the screen effects, such as bright scene for dreamy ambience. Every scene is understated, clean and simple, which is what Tim Burdon good at.Details in the movie were also dedicately pondered by the director,a single moment could be rich yet succinct. Sums up why the movie is so successful, is the maximum and indelible potrayal of innocence, of the "uncatchable big fish ".

Die Fälscher (The Counterfeiters) (The Counterfeiter) 2007,  R)
Die Fälscher (The Counterfeiters) (The Counterfeiter)
It got the charisma of a movie based on a true story. The Holocaust was depicted with levity compared to other kindred movies. There's no paticular theme but you are able to sense the protagonist's vicariously as he managed to survive through his talents.

Paris Je T'aime 2006,  R)
Paris Je T'aime
Brilliant!! Despite the fact that I relish short films ,the ones in Paris je T'aime are exquisite and profound and romantic ones. But it would be better if the few stories in the end were not getting more and more English...and an ending showing more links between the stories would be nice.

The Phantom of the Opera
Great casting and cinematography of this film achieved a melancholy, transcendent and passionate artistic height

My Blueberry Nights 2007,  PG-13)
My Blueberry Nights
Weird photography due to the director. The story's about a young girl's life experience and pursuit of love. Done with graceful plot and recounting, like Norah Jone's music.

The Dark Knight 2008,  PG-13)
The Dark Knight
Awesome! One of the rare sequels surpasses the first one. The Dark Knight shows inherent variation is terms of style, cinematography, theme and nature of villan compared with Batman Beginning, which is a masterpiece as well. Superb performance by the late Heath Leger, who portrayed the greatest villan in movie history.

No Country for Old Men
First time I watched this I didn't quite catch its message but after the second time it becomes quite clear and and radiates the cinematic power every oscar movie has.
Every scene is captured with artistic clearity. The plot is quite consistent, concise and yet gripping throughout the movie, pretty good job in editting.
The message this film conveys comfirms its best picture award. The world is getting shittier and things you'd never imagine decades ago are happening right now.Yet this is not just a 21 century phenomenon. The seed of corruption has always been there and time and development has allowed it to sprout and flourish. The pandemonium is shaping in humanity like an evil flood and nothing can be done about it.

The Tracey Fragments 2007,  R)
The Tracey Fragments
One of a kind.Tracey's reality and fantasy combine into a confusing plot,at least first 30 minutes of the film. But then everything started to make sense as the film goes on and in the end you just can't resist the power of Tracey's misery

Unique cinematography and editting, impressive split-screen narration, unparallel performance that can be delivered only by Ellen Page

Fantastic! Luc Bssson's never let me down. The movie is a fine example for low-budget action thriller.

(500) Days of Summer
fundamental aspect of attraction well re-examined:when you are in love, it feels like meant to be, a feeling reproducible to another partner...or maybe it's the belief in destiny initiates love for all of us...interesting narration and cinematography, though I would say that the charater of Summer is not portrayed strongly enough

Hellraiser
The very first horror movie I watched when I was a kid, scared the shit out of me.The kind of horror that gives you insomnia is pretty rare in today's horror films, but I remember completely how the statue came to life and devour the people, really freaky...
