Beyond the Valley of the Dolls 1970, NC-17)
This is one of my all time favorite movies, definitely in the top 3 of all time. It is campy and fun. I am a huge Russ Meyer fan and I think this one stands in a category of its own out of all his work. I especially love the writing by Roger Ebert. The character development is right on, and there are a lot of characters to juggle. But the editing and cinematography are noteworthy as well. All of the elements that Meyer fans enjoy are here in their splendid glory. Favorite scene: When Kelly arrives at Z-man's party and he gives her the tour. "This is my happening and it freaks me out!" |

Gone With the Wind 1939, G)
I'll never forget the first time I saw this movie. I was swept away by its grandeur, and it is one of those classic Hollywood movies that makes me come to appreciate the beauty of early American cinema. It is ambitious and lavish in set design, and the acting is grand and dramatic. I came to really care about the characters Scarlett and Rhett. It is a real experience to sit and view this movie from beginning to end because it is so long, but when you do you really get transported to that world of the civil war. It is a classic epic film that should be viewed on a big screen if ever given the chance so that it can be fully appreciated. |

Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back 1980, PG)
I am a HUGE Star Wars fan and this is my favorite in the whole saga. It is emotional and dark. The characters are well developed from Episode IV so we've already come to know and love them and thus it dives right in to the story without having to waste time introducing us with too much of who these people are. I love how we get to see Luke struggle and learn to deal with the Force. There is a lot packed into this, including the revelation of Darth being Luke's father and the romance between Han and Leah. The dialogue is sharp and unforgettable. I enjoy the blue screen specical effects a lot more than the CG of the newer movies. Favorite scene: the minutes leading up to when "Imperial troops have entered the base" on Hoth and the ensuing scene with the Imperial Walkers. |

Twin Peaks - Fire Walk with Me 1992, R)
This is a true masterpiece of Lynch's and is without a doubt my favorite film that he has done. As a fan of the TV show, this is all the good stuff that he couldn't ever put in the show and air on TV. It is definitely dark, twisted and surreal. I really love the character of Laura Palmer and this movie allows you to share in her final journey towards her inevitable death. We get to ride alongside her and dive into the seedy underworld of the dark secret life that she lived. It is a sad story, yet the ending is ravishing and almost spiritual. The cinematograpy, sound and set design are all remarkably done. Favorite scene: "Welcome to Canada," Laura, Donna, Jacques, Buck and Tommy partying. |

The Godfather 1972, R)
When people ask me what my favorite movie is I usually say THE GODFATHER. This movie is personally very special to me as I first saw it at a very young age and fell in love with it as a child. And as a kid I recall being effected by how violent the film is, yet it is so much more than just a violent ganster film. The storytelling and superb acting combine to make this an epic masterpiece. The period decor and well developed characters really put us right there in the world of the story and as we come to care about the people in this family, the shift of power to Michael becomes fascinating to witness. Favorite scene: Michael kills Mckluskey and Sollozzo. |

This is a thrilling joy ride of a movie. I just saw GRINDHOUSE and was reminded of FASTER PUSSYCAT with the opening scene in GRINDHOUSE of Rose McGowan at the strip club. Very similar to the opening of FPKK. Also the 3 girls and the car of DEATHPROOF is similar to the 3 girls here in Pussycat. But FPKK is uniquely and geniunely Meyer and it is a riot. One of the best treats of this movie is the dialogue. These gals are tough and funny and it comes out in the things they say. And their actions speak as loud as their words! Favorite scene: When Tura Satana fights Tommy. |
