J.J Abrams' "Star Trek" was a perfect sci-fi film that payed tribute to Trek lore while also being a fresh and inventive space opera of it's own. "Into Darkness" doesn't measure up. AT ALL. It's very generic in it's storytelling, has obvious and pretty underwhelming references, and lacks the excitement and SPACE of the 2009 classic. Why ground this story on earth for a major duration? Why take a gritty turn and lose the heart and winning tone of the original. Why ignore the entire crew besides Kirk, Spock and Scotty (seriously, this is unacceptable. We all know Carl Urban was the major standout of the original anyways, and the rest of the crew were developed nicely. Thats ALL GONE HERE). It's astounding technically but is artistically sour. This is not a great sequel. It may not even be a good one.
A brutal endurance test and raw as fuck. This film delves into the psychology of a killer masterfully and feels completely authentic. one of the best of it's kind.

Maybe the best film I've ever seen. One of my All-Time favorites.
I watched this at 2:30 in the morning, and couldn't go to sleep after!
