List shows only my top 6 films of the moment, which appear as my favourite films on my profile. Please see 'My Favourite Movies - (Full list)' for the remainder of favourites.
Not only has it been a while since such a great gangster film has been released, but this one is so packed with content, you'll think you've been watching it a lot longer than the actual 96 mins for the first part.
This is without doubt Cassell's finest role to date and for me already being such a fan of this Actor, the performance totally blew me away.
Another pleasant surprise was the role played by Depardieu, who was almost unrecognisable in his role and played it rather convincingly.
This film really shows that humour really can be an international language. One man's persistance and imagination brings him love and an amazing journey for his son, whilst keeping the important messages to convey.
This is a totally original storyline, the characters and beauty of this film are blissfully unique and refreshing. The film synopsis really doesn't do it justice - see for yourselves.
Antibodies really exceded my expectations on many levels. Firstly as a fictional story of a serial killer, this has to be the best one since ?The Silence of the Lambs?. It was controversial, made you feel uncomfortable in parts, it was casted well, especially in the case of the serial killer.
In terms of World Cinema, this is way up there with the best, it?s also high up there as a Thriller, as there are twists and turns that left me shouting at the tv screen!
If you enjoy films which cover any of these genres (Serial Killer, World cinema and Thrillers) give it a watch, it?s impressive, you won?t be disappointed.
A film that has completely blown me away on many levels.
A true story of a journey of self-discovery and search for identity, living a simplistic lifestyle, travelling a Nomadic adventure. A film of rebellion and anti-conformity.
This film is beautifully made in every sense of the word. The views of nature were captured in great detail, the acting was of high standard and very natural, the relationships between people and their relationships with the material world were completely in depth.
Excellent work here by Emile Hirsch who jusifyably portrayed this true life character's journey and of course Kudos to Sean Penn for the Screen play and Direction in this film and for choosing a project with such human insight.
Although a short role, it has to be said that the older guy in this film (whose name I can't seem to get at the moment) played a blinding role and a totally believable performance.
Inspirational, breathtaking, liberating and one hell of a life experience. The best film I have watched for a long time and this has instantly become one of my favourite films of all time. I shall now be buying the book..
UPDATE:
Second viewing already plus reading the book. I have fallen in love with the philosophy behind the story and have found a deep fascination and admiration into the character Alexander Supertramp.
Psychological Thrillers this good, do not come along often and this will do doubt be the first of many viewings of this film for me.
Not one review I received said a bad word about this film and with so many received, I had high expectations for this and I wasn't disappointed in the slightest.
Great original storyline, an interesting investigation coming from a different angle, gritty with a realistic feel to the story, impressive acting, not without it's disturbing background info.
The main character; Lisbeth Salander is a beautifully complex character, who has been well developed in her own back story and who's vengeful streak is relentless.
Impressive! I enjoyed the reamking of this in 'The Perfect Murder' with Michael Douglas and Gwyneth Paltrow, so was intigued to watch the original.
Filming most of this film in one place, is really creative on Hitchcock's part. It is all 'so terribly terribly British, but that certainly captures the era that the film was made in.
This one is sort of a review of 2 halves for me. The Documentary reveals a whole different Joaquin to the one we see in films as the Actor, it's clear from the film that Phoenix's explosions and tantrums are similar to a young child's outbursts, he is ironically egotistical for a man who feels he affects people in a positive way, hugely controlling and very much a Diva with a small entourage pandering his every need.
He then faces a world where he just wants to dive in at the deep end. It's arrogant and very cringeworthy at times and shows Phoenix in a totally repulsive state.
There were hints throughout the film as to it's authenticity and whilst Brother-in-law Casey Affleck Directed the film, this could very much have been watching Joaquin commit Career suicide.
...and so it is revealed this is a Mockumentary! Toward the end you are almost hoping that it is and of course turns everything in my review around and of course, Phoenix and others acted their roles very realistically, it was a great stunt and it was pulled off well!
