    Zatoichi vs. Yojimbo, Mifune vs. Shintaro! How was this not the greatest film ever made? They were right to keep it 70% dialogue and 30% fighting with these two but the film never really lives up to what you'd expect. I bet the behind the scenes banter was ace though, what a wrap... read more party that would have been!

    I'm a fan of the Zatoichi series, and absolutely love Yojimbo and Sanjuro. To see the two come together was a mouthwatering prospect, but I was still concerned. It turns out, I had every reason to be. This isn't a bad film, but it's just too ambitious. The plot is needlessly comp... read morelex, involving many characters and twists. It becomes confusing and easy to forget that this is a Zatoichi film. He becomes sidelined many times. The complex plot results in a longer running time, which can cause the film to drag. Mifune is a great co-star for Katsu, both of them have a wicked sense of humour and are similar on the inside, but luckily their performances are contrast with each other. It's doubtful that Mifune is playing "the" Yojimbo, but it's still good to see him n familiar surroundings. It's a good watch, especially for fans of Zatoichi or Mifune.

    A very solid entry in the Zatoichi series, with none other than Toshiro Mifune playing his type of role (a sarcastic bodyguard) and with Katsu Shin showing that even good ol' Ichi can have thirst of getting some gold for his own good.

    Goes without saying that this is a must for ... read morechambara/Mifune fans. Plot gets a bit convulted in some parts, but nothing to worry.

    Completely and ridiculously complex. Where's the amazing and breathtaking scenery I watch these Zatoichi films for? Poor Mifune makes the most of a bad situation, and the ending was cute, but not even he could save this.

    This was slow in some spots and I feel like some parts could have been cut out. This is a must see for all fans of Zatoichi!
