Angela (Gina Ramsden) is dead, the victim of a vicious shooting by her psychotic boyfriend Josh (Joshua Nelson). But despite the fact that Angela's heart may have stopped beating, she still has to go about living like everybody else. As Angela becomes a part of the new zombie society, she is introduced to a rotting subculture where look-alive face creams and all meat dinners help the mortally challenged feel like healthy, functional members of society. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

The first half of this film is great, then the remainder is unjustifiably terrible. Detailed review to come.

For B Horror, this is really good!

Story: Quick synopsis since this is a lesser known movie: The dead in this world don't stay dead, they come back as zombies, but not zombies in the traditional sense that they are mindless corpses with only the drive to eat and a basic figh... read moret or flight response. These zombies retail all the intelligence and memories of the living. That said, they do eat raw meat. The can get by just eating raw ground chuck but they are stricken with headaches that only go away when they eat the still warm flesh of humans. The living aren't okay with this and zombies are treated as second class citizens who are usually fired from their jobs for being zombies and sometimes executed by humans who are afraid of them. This leads to an industry of cosmetic products designed to hide the fact that a person is a zombie.

So, it is in this world that we meet our main protagonist, Angie, who is killed by an abusive boyfriend. She then tries to go about her?life? as if nothing happened and tries to hide the fact that she's a zombie. It should come as no surprise that this turns into a metaphor for being different and encourages people to stop conforming and be themselves.

I was surprised that this was more serious than humorous, given the title, but it actually has some really strong themes and ideas presented. There are some laughs sprinkled throughout, but I don't think I'd call it a comedy. The first half of this movie was absolutely genius, but the second half faltered a little bit. I have to give it a B.

Acting: I have to give props to Gina Ramsden for playing a very effective girl next door sort of character. Christa McNamee plays an absolutely terrifying Commandant who leads death squads against zombies. Most of the rest of the cast does a pretty good job, and by pretty good I mean pretty good for a Hollywood movie. By B horror standards, they are phenomenal. B

Visuals: I watch a lot of bad horror movies and have a fairly strong stomach, but this one made me want to gag a few times. Granted, I think I was fighting a virus when I watched it, so it may have just been me instead of the movie. Anyhow, this is a gross movie. I wouldn't advise eating anything when you watch it. Also, the whole world looks dirty and depressingly gross. This was no doubt by design, so I have to give props. B

Sound: This was probably the weakest link in the chain. The sound was much better than some B horror movies, but there was almost constantly a hiss in the background that comes from poor sound equipment. The music also didn't leave a huge impression on me either. C

Overall: This may be one of the few B horror movies that I actually give a B to. It should have been shorter and losses steam in the second half, but it's still much, much better than the rest of the horror crap that's out there. I got my copy used from Blockbuster for about five bucks and I think it's worth paying up to twelve dollars for this movie (that includes shipping if you should decide to order it). If you're into indie horror, I have to believe you'll enjoy this movie. B

I really wanted to like this low budget zombie flick by Marc Fratto because it seemed to be right up my alley; a comedy about the recently undead trying to fit into a society that (to say the least) is uncomfortable around them. Sadly however the film suffers from an identity cri... read moresis and it simply can't make up its mind what it wants to be when it grows up. Sure there is a slight comedic flavor to it, but that gets lost in its attempt to be a message film in the style of George Romero. It could have done both if the director had stressed the satirical aspect of the film, but he doesn't. What's more both comedy and message are thrown out the window in an absolute orgy of zombie mayhem in the last twenty minutes or so when the film decides to become a knockdown dragout slay fest with everyone trying to kill everyone else, but by then its too little and too late for me. There were enough good ideas here for several films, but sadly too many ideas for one film.

Once again, Marc Fratto is able to hook and reel the viewer in helplessly. His work is simply brilliant on many levels, with a budget that is supposed to produce much less. I seriously hope he gets to work with some real money soon.

If you enjoyed this movie, check out his ear... read morelier work, 'Strange Things Happen At Sundown'. A bit less refined, yet just as impressive feat by this very talented writer/director, whose skill is apparent throughout. Pay close attention to this man's work and be rewarded...

This far from you average zombie flick. The film follows Angela who is trying to cope with being "mortally challenged". This zombie flick reminded me of the ol' Romero flicks. Great story, good acting, and decent soundtrack. It's flaws are that it's badly lit in some scenes, ... read morethe direction is a little off at times, and the special effects aren't exactly top notch. But if you see this movie on the shelves get it. You'll enjoy it trust me.

This felt like the final project of someone just finishing art school, who feels like they need to SAY SOMETHING IMPORTANT in an unconventional way. And it kind of works. If this movie about talking zombies trying to live a normal human life had been 30 minutes, I might have like... read mored it. Despite the overly wooden characters and theme over substance.

But it just goes on and on. It's either over the top message, or over the top violence. And not 'fun' campy violence, but long stetches of people doing nothing but screaming in pain. As for the message, they really hit you hard with it. American society is uncomfortable with homosexuality. We get it. You don't need the giant american flags, the references to being closeted, the ended relationship when she 'changes', etc.

Using a movie as a metaphor is great. But it has to be really carefully handled. The original dawn of the dead, zombie movie with relatively subtle handling of a message. This movie, it just underestimates the audience to an almost insulting level.

What's really disappointing though is that this could, should, have been good. The idea was solid, and I felt like the actors could handle it if given more to work with. It's an interesting concept above all, and the metaphor is both significant and self apparent. In the end it just never reached that potential though.

Also, I think it's time to bury the cliched "Changes to a characters life and personality personified as they look into a shattered mirror and cut their hair." Ok, movies that aren't filled to the brim can get a pass there. But when your movie is 90% trope to begin with....

Started out with some promising humor that quickly faded away. Typical "B" style zombie movie with a lazy attempt at a Romero-esque view on racism/etc in America. Blah.
