Director Martin Gero turns his knowing lens on five different archetypal relationships in a caustic romantic comedy highlighting the amusing similarities and bizarre differences in human relationships... read more read more.... Sexually frustrated blonde Abby (Kristin Booth) is stuck in a domestic rut with her hyper sensitive boyfriend Andrew (Josh Dean); will the pair be able to smooth things out or could it be that their relationship was actually doomed from the very beginning? Yet while folks like Abby and Andrew are currently locked in to relationships, others like longtime friends Matt (Aaron Abrams) and Kristen (Carly Pope) just got out of them. Perhaps a quick round of casual sex between old friends is just the thing to help both friends move beyond their pains of their past. Meanwhile, recently broken-up couple Mia (Sonja Bennett) and Eric (ohn Cooke) are attempting to bury the past by going out on one post-mortem date, and British ladies man is out on his very first date with the pretty, and much younger, Jamie (Diora Baird). But not all relationships are as simple as one man and one woman, because energetic Gord (Ennis Esme), his ill-humored roommate Dave (Peter Oldring), and Gord's beautiful girlfriend Inez (Natalie Lisinska) somehow find their relationship growing increasingly unconventional. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Isn't as serious as it should have been.

A clever ensemble piece about the circumstances under which people aged 20-32 find themselves... well... having sex. A movie about sex that depicts what's necessary without being tasteless, this is an examination of various preconceptions, misconceptions and warped perceptions ab... read moreout sex, and asks the questions so many people ask themselves and each other. A one-of-a-kind film that really makes other movies' depictions of sex seem very shallow, this one doesn't have the best acting, or writing, but it's interestingly structured and makes it point very well.

A cleverly written Canadian comedy that is a lot more tame than the title suggests and you may expect. It's likeable cast is a major contributing factor to the films success. Y.P.F. is a frank and entertaining little gem that you should definately check out.

Y.P.F. is...difficult to review. The tag line is, "Sex without complications?....yeah, right." This pretty much describes the movie as well as it can be described. Five different pairings at different stages of the relationship spectrum all go to bed, and we see what the results ... read moreare of their hanky-panky.

There are some really diverse situations here, from two ex-lovers who want to spend another night together, to a guy who wants his roommate to have sex with his girlfriend while he watches. Complicated doesn't begin to describe some of the things that unfold. Some of it is funny, some of it is painful, and some of it is very uncomfortable.

My constant thought throughout the film was that the basic concept was cool, but it would all work so much better as a genuine documentary. And no, that's not an excuse to see people actually having sex. Real life always trumps fiction, and Y.P.F. is a perfect example of that. Its scripted scenes and dialogue only offer an imitation of what these situations would REALLY be like.

An honest and suprisngly sweet tale about sex. It's not just the sexual acts themselves but the talking that takes centre stage and opens up who these characters really are. From the hilarious couple, best friends and roomates segments to the more emotional first date and exes se... read moregments. This film is full of harsh truths but always manages to find the comedy. The actors play it fantastically well in a brave fashion, having to convnce us of the pre-existing relatinships and how they develop throughout lengthy speeches and often uncomfortable sex scenes. It's never offensive in anyway and works more as a celebration of sex as opposed to detailing how destructive and painful it can be. So stick on your feel god wellingtons and enjoy this short, super, celluoid gem.

What a sweet, heartfelt and honest movie. It's remarkable that it can be all these things and sidesplitting at the same time. I think that everyone who watches this will find a different storyline affecting. "The Exes" really hit close to home for the friend I went to see this wi... read moreth, while "The Friends" and "The Couple" really spoke to me. I think it was a really novel idea to use the act of coitus and the social connotations that come with it as a way to exemplify these people's relationships. It worked really really well. I agree with all the critics when I say that this is exactly the kind of movie that Canada should be funding and making.

"Young People Fucking" is a movie about young people having sex, consisting of five unconnected couples over a single night.(See, there is some truth in advertising.) Actually, the movie is more concerned with relationships and, like I said in last week's review of "Humpday," ho... read morew sex changes everything. All of which is performed well and with sincerity by a likable cast who hit all the right awkward notes. Oh, I almost forgot. There is sex, some graphic, some funny and some downright kinky.

To be perfectly fair, Ken(Callum Blue) is 31, having already fucked his way through most of his office with a one night stand with Jamie(Diora Baird) being next. It's the first time together for Kris(Carly Pope) and Matt(Aaron Abrams) but they have been friends forever. Kris just thinks it is about time, feeling Matt has a lot of pressure he needs released. It is not the first time together for Mia(Sonja Bennett) and Eric(Josh Cooke) but it is the first time after they broke up when she invites him in for a nightcap. It has been three weeks for Abby(Kristin Booth) and Andrew(Josh Dean) since they have had sex and if nothing changes, it could be quite a bit longer before the next time. Gord(Ennis Esmer) and Inez(Natalie Lisinska) are about to move into a place together but not before he wants her to have sex with Dave(Peter Oldring), his hated and well-hung roommate. Now, this last encounter is the one I have trouble with. While the homoerotic angle is handled tastefully, I found Gord wanting to watch his girlfriend having sex with someone he despises more than a little disturbing. And that's not to mention his eating a sandwich while being a spectator.

As a comedy, it's more serious than anything else. Way too serious, hoping to get laughs out of jokes that arent funny, and a bunch of bad acting during too many sex scenes.

Y.P.F is a surprisingly dense character dramedy set within the backdrop of sexual situations.
  • September 14, 2010
I think of it as "Love American style" except tweaked for 2007 R-rated flick. Far too much talking for a Prono and not enough reality to be high-concept. Written by Martin Gero and Aaron Abram. Like the other plots in the movie they try to connect, but really don't, as a runner-up prize all the men's and women's bodies are very attractive and mostly naked.

The cast tries but rarely achieves an authenticity of emotional intimacy, as if everyone knows they're going to be cut away from -- how else to say it? -- prematurely. Full Review

In truth, Canadian filmmaker Martin Gero's very funny and insightful feature debut is far less shocking than its detractors -- most of whom haven't even seen it -- would have you believe. Full Review

Sorry, but intercourse is not the main course here. Instead, this is a literal sex comedy where laughs are sought, and often found, at every stage of the act, from 'foreplay' to 'afterglow'. Full Review

    • Jamie: I'm twenty-three.
    • Ken: Bloody hell. I mean, I'm thirty-one-years-old. You know what that means? It means I can't be running around fucking all these girls. I mean, half the time I don't even speak to them ever again. That's rude is what it is. It's immature. It's embarrassing, it's fucking embarrassing. There comes a point when you want all of this to be about more than just getting off. Do you know what I mean? So I'm gonna go. I'm gonna go, and, uh, I'm gonna ask you if I can call you later in the week. I'll tell you what I'm gonna do for you. I'm gonna walk you up to your door.
